Tom Clancy's The Division - Ubisoft + Massive, MMO Open World TPS RPG

This is the first Tom Clancy game I've been interested in since... Yeah!

Can't wait. Looks to be a true Next Gen game.

I saw all three and YES that is the case. It was a great year E3 for shooters and all three games have the same basic mechanic of shooting handled in drastically different ways.
Yes, and all of these games feel as if they are merely transitions to something even cooler/grander that will take shape over the next few years.

I'll be interested to see exactly how (and how effectively) Titanfall pulls off its campaign through multiplayer idea.

How exactly will that work?
What if you... I don't know... LOSE?

Will one player select to play the bad guys?

Sony announces their hardware will be more impressive yet they offer it at a lower price point by $100. This in done only after the promotion of a video game depicting a failed, cyrpto-fascist state which rewards you for killing survivalists and gun owners.

This is done at the behest of the Obama administration which in exchange for the subversive anti-gun, pro-secret army message agrees to tank the economy 21 days before the PS4 is released. At that point $399 will be worth $749.99 in June 2013 dollars. Sony is allowed to technically keep the price but collect nearly double value on sales.

Keep up with me. We then have a weakened state open to the idea of personal Obama gay-military. Coincidence that E3 coincides with the NSA reveal?

How does the whole "get ambushed by other players while extracting" work in the context of the story? Aren't you supposed to be playing the good guys?

I might pick up some Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter or Ghost Recon: Future Soldier during the summer sale.

They will be very cheap, they seem to be pretty solid ports (need to do some more research here), they don't require Uplay, and will get my 3rd person fix until Division comes out.

Titanfall isn't open world.

Advance Warfighter on the PC is a completely different game than the console versions. First person and more sim-like, similar to the first Ghost Recon games.

That is interesting, did not know that. You can tell I've barely researched this.

I was leaning more towards Future Soldier.

it was hugely scripted, but hugely impressive. I love the smaller squads, the slightly slower pace - while it might be an MMO technically, its clearly not WoW or planetside

the squad behave really efficiently - covering flanks etc. While that made for a nice presentation, I'm not sure I've ever played online with people behaving that well. You'll need a strong group of friends

Fucking videogames, man.

Glad to see we'll be getting custom characters. Next year is gonna be awesome for gaming, I'm glad since I seem to be losing the desire to play games. Chalking that up to the generation fatigue.

Toss me on that PS4 Gaf list Amirox :D

I love conspiracy theorists.

As far as you are concerned, they aren't sleeper cells like you and your friends. They are random bad guys who are taking advantage of the anarchy. At least that's how I'd explain it.

daaw i cant even laugh, wheres this gif from it looks absolutely terrified

I want to hug all the cats in the world...

The concept behind this game really intrigues me.

I gotta do more research on this deal.

It looks like the premise could be really innovative and deliver a truly pioneering next-gen experience.

This post should be in the thread about Rainbow 6 Patriots:
http://rainbow6.ubi.com/patriots/en-US/

"In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, Team Rainbow faces a new and very real threat called the “True Patriots,” a highly-trained, well-organized revolutionary group that claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests. The True Patriots will do whatever it takes to reclaim their country. Playing as Rainbow, players will face critical scenarios that will require them to make tough ethical decisions in order to stop this new breed of terrorists. "

So... is the multiplayer platform agnostic; do PS4 players get to co-mingle with XBox players? Does the dude on the tablet have to choose whether he wants to play with people on PS4 or XBox?

I doubt that PS4 players will be able to play with Xbox One or PC players.

Tablet/Smartphone app is probably compatible with all versions.

If it's an MMO running on Ubisoft servers (my presumption which may be wrong), why wouldn't they just let the 2 mix? I can sort of understand not including PC (if they do a PC version) because mouse and keyboard would clean up on controller.

Source on running from Ubisoft servers?

They could be using Microsoft dedicated servers, aka 'the infinite power of the cloud,' for their infrastructure.

No source at all, like I said a presumption. If you can run the tablet game from a random tablet, I imagine you're logging in to an account created specifically for The Division which would pull in your friends list, be it on PS4 or Xbox.

GC: Don’t take this the wrong way, because I think the game looks fantastic, but when did Massive suddnely become so good at graphics? How long have you been working on this?

PM: For the last couple of years we have worked on a brand new next gen engine, called Snowdrop. So currently we have 50 or 60 programmers working on the engine, so it’s a big investment and it’s a really fantastic engine. It looks fantastic and it’s really good to work with as well. But what we have tried to do is push the graphics, so we’re pushing it with the lighting and we’re pushing it with the destruction – as you saw in the demo. And it’s not predetermined destruction, it’s actually modifying things in real-time.

GC: How do such detailed graphics add to the gameplay though? If it looked terrible would it still play the same?

PM: The destruction, for example, it actually changes the landscape and that then changes the lighting, so everything is kind of intermingled with each other. So we can destroy something and we have a global illumination system so that the lighting actually adapts to what’s happening – say you have shot out the overhead lights – and then you have to adapt to that new situation as you fight.

GC: Does the game use cloud-processing on the Xbox One?

PM: Yes, but not in terms of gameplay.

GC: I’m still not clear but is it possible to do that with the PlayStation 4 as well? I don’t see any reason why not and you seem like you’d know…

PM: Yeah, sure. It’s just the cloud.

GC: Is that something you’re doing with the PlayStation 4 at the moment?

PM: We’ll see. [laughs]

GC: OK, that’s great. Thanks very much.

I thought that was funny.

This game looks insane and a is firm reminder of why we buy a new system in the first place. The jump is clear and present. Amazing gameplay trailer.

World in Conflict was highly impressive graphically when it came out. Interviewer needs to do his homework.

Exactly. It was downright mindblowing for an RTS game that year and it still has some pretty good details and effects. I always saw the Wargame series as the spiritual successor in that area but I miss WiC.

The Massive guys should have slapped the interviewer.

Anyway, the more I watch the reveal for this game, the more excited I get. I love TPS and always want more of the tactical TPS games so this was a nice surprise. Makes me wish there was a new SOCOM game though. :D
