Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Somehow, I feel the story mode will follow Uprising's story formula this time around; divided into chapters and following a more linear scheme. Obviously, characters unlocking on the way and a "world colliding" feel unfolding all throughout the story. Perhaps the flying versus ground segments will be translated into soft-platforming versus boss fighting. Heh, this sounds perfect. :)

Oh shit! Super Smash Bros. x Gurren Lagann x KI:Uprising?!?
My mind...it would melt the istant I start it.

New pic of the day.

As a note, each picture is posted at a slightly higher resolution at this URL on the official website, in addition to Sakurai's Miiverse post of it.

Edit: Ninja'd, yes, but my picture won't change on Monday, unlike Tan's (he's linked directly to daily.jpg on the official site, which will change Monday to Friday each week).
I love the metallic grille on her chest piece. The whole thing looks gorgeous.

Honestly, if there's really one thing that comes to mind for me, her armour revision really reminds me of a sports car. It's great.

great!
I'd also love to see some sort of RPG grown for the characters as "customization", as I said, or at least for the available roster to be transferred from one version of the game to another

It's awful, and before somebody from the hardcore fighting community comes in here to discuss how they aren't really clones because of different properties in their moves and whatnot. It doesn't matter. That only matters to the FGC of which there seems to be a large number who barely even consider Smash to be a real fighting game. To most of the other people, characters like Falco and Wolf are both clones of Fox, Ganondorf is a clone of C. Falcon, and Toon Link one of Link.

"To most other people"? Can you even prove that? Yes, you've got people like you who seem to disturbed by the existence of clones and hate them with passion, but then you had tons of people who, say, loved Roy, (Melee) Ganondorf and Falco in spite of them being clones. I really don't think removing Pichu, Dr. Mario, Young Link, Roy, Ganondorf and Falco from Meele would somehow have made the game more popular. And I'm not talking about hardcore games, but casual players too (That's why I mentioned Roy). You'd just have less important unlockable content and less fanservice.

The only wasteful thing, IMO, is what Brawl has done with them - giving them unique animations, but keeping their attacks based on the original. It's clear that people like you consider that no different from actual clones, and people who aren't bothered by clones won't really be bothered even by Melee types with reused animation sets, so that extra effort was just wasted. When you put someone like Wolf in the same category as Falco it just shows that all the effort to give him a completely original moveset while following some basic concepts given to Fox ended up quite worthless.

What I love about this new high-poly model is that many of the little details in the armor are actually rendered now instead of a texture.

Its basically the Team Ninja model, and its less detailed than Samus' traditional power suit. I don't remember this many people liking it in Other M. I don't like it very much, especially the visor, but I can't complain because A) I liked Other M and B) I've seen much worse.

So, with the Capcom copyright on smash site, I'm preparing myself for Pacman like people have been saying or some other 2-3 characters from them.

I bet they made some sort of deal.

Edit:copyright not tm

Her armor looks so slick. I'm still in love with how vibrant the colors look. So refreshing.

Hell I hated Other M as a whole (feel gameplay wise it had a few good ideas that could be great if refined in a very different sort of Metroid game) but never had an issue with the suit redesign itself. It's simple, but it worked well with the more classic designs of the enemies M:OM used and works especially well in SSB4. While he sort of deconfirmed costumes (... which makes no sense considering Wario's classic alt in Brawl), I'd love to see MP2's Light Suit as an alternate costume for some Retro representation.

M:OM's version of Zero Suit Samus and Ridley on the other hand...

Hurry up and show the trailers for Pac-Man, Little Mac and Mii already jesus Sakurai

I need to keep adjusting colours. Orange flashy lights mean Bowser doesn't stand out anymore.

Old news is bad news. I am sure this has been posted but it's still freshly baked news to me.

Kotaku said:
"The reality of the situation unfortunately is that there are certain limitations on the 3DS," Sakurai said. The 3DS and Wii U versions of the next Smash Bros will have the same library of characters.

"So we're forced into the situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree. but we're really working hard in order to include as many characters as possible."

Why do both versions need the same amount of characters if there isn't even a cross-play feature?

Why do both versions need the same amount of characters if there isn't even a cross-play feature?

There's a few reasons, but the most obvious ones are:

1. Developing the exact same roster for both games will most likely cut down on a lot of dev/design costs as most of them will play the exact same way after all.

This is the most efficient way to get the largest cast in on both games.

2. Eventhough there's no crossplay, there has been mention of clear interactive features between the 3DS/WiiU specifically relating to characters. Having different characters in either version will most likely not jive well with whatever interactivity is planned.

I'm holding Wolf's hand until he is confirmed. I want that delicious Wolf in HD
with shirtless alt costume

I wonder if any other companies are going to get to include their characters in this.

Neku would be a cool inclusion from Square Enix.

Makes sense. I hope the roster won't make me resent the 3DS version.

Looks great Jintor. I kinda like it with the Gaf symbol also.

And Quoted for this page.

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/13/wii-u-and-3ds-smash-bros-will-not-have-cross-platform-play-wil/

- each version of the game has completely different stages
- cross-platform play wouldn't work
- each version will interact with one another
- take characters you've customized and transfer them to the Wii U version
- customizatios won't be costumes and they won't be something that players have to unlock
- different costumes would take away from what makes each character unique
- wants to avoid boring, repetitive tasks
- "stress free, easy connectivity" between the two versions
- no comment on level editor

what do you think? it's a shame for the no cross platform, but I'm interested in seeing the connectivity about the "customized character transfer"

-It's a great idea to create different stages for each version. Now they don't have to try to upscale or downscale them for each version. Getting the same amount of characters into both games is the more important task anyways.

- I don't think cross-play was such a big deal. Having them interacting with each other was the key feature Sakurai spoke of awhile back and I'm happy to see it still being implemented.

-The wording on how he described customization and how you don't have to "unlock" them can mean a lot of things. He wants to avoid repetitive tasks so maybe there are some default custom template. AND if you can transfer your custom 3DS character to the WiiU, there has to be something worthwhile in the customization.

I hope we get 20 clones.

I have no problem with them. More characters imo is always a plus for a Nintendo game like this.

Yeah, wasn't it pretty obvious that when they want both versions, they weren't aiming for cross play but rather interaction?

Let's be frank, if Brawl was released with a handheld counterpart a lot of people would probably strongly believe the "low" number of newcomers was due to it.

Unless Sakurai outright states "we have fewer characters because we made two games" I sincerely doubt there'll be any way for us to say/see what exactly effects roster size and what doesn't.

Honestly, you should only be worried if you super duper love character gimmicks like Ice Climbers dual fighter or Olimar's pikmin. That's what Sakurai mentioned was tricky on 3DS after all.

Does this mean no alt costumes?
WTF sakurai.

We don't know anything about the supposed interaction, and sacrificing characters for this unknown feature makes it that more undesirable. The 3DS version is beginning to seem more like an anchor...

Right. We don't know the limits of the 3DS, just the fact that the limits are much more evident than the Wii U. I don't like it.

We don't know that they're sacrificing characters because of the 3DS version yet.

From the kotaku interview it was already sounding like there won't be many third party characters. Hell even seems like Sonic might be out due to the way he said it through the translator.

It's the only news that I think can be spun in any negative way and I am making myself very dizzy.

I got nauseous from riding the 'Round Up' once...

Tried doing a group sketch but it came out awful so I just focused on the easiest possible subject instead.

Didn't notice this before the new page, this looks super nice! I always have trouble with color design so always envious of people who can construct great pictures out of nothing *but* color.

I don't get why people say that. Sakurai mentioned how the 3rd party characters needed special preparation and such, but I think there seems to be obviously special circumstances around Sonic again, with another Mario & Sonic game and the Wii U exclusives.
