Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

As for the Fire Emblem reps, would it really be that unreasonable to have Marth, Lucina, and Chrom? Awakening is one of the most popular FEs yet, so it wouldn't surprise me if it got three reps.

Well, a dead franchise like SF got 3 representatives...

So is it weird that the one thing I'm looking forward to over new characters and stages and such is the soundtrack? Brawl had a superb variety, and I'm really curious to see if they decide to go crazy with this game too and get every composer under the sun to do arrangements. I'm especially excited to see what they do with KI: Uprising, Mario Galaxy, and the new gens of Pokemon's music.

Galaxy music arranged by Michiko Naruke would be so amazing.

Wolf is still more clone than not clone. I won't shift on that. I would not cry if he went. Him and Falco are pretty interchangeable.

Wolf is less of a clone than Falco.

I don't want to see either of them go. Falco is a badass, while Wolf is a badass and is more unique.

Agreed. I just see him (or falco) as easier to replace since they're loose clones of Fox. TreIII did say that Sakurai wanted to work with Wolf's character in the future, so it's more than likely that he's sticking around.

Hands off my prey!

LOL

First lord in the series and a character as close to being one of the primary 8 as you can be for appearing in the second Smash game and you think the power of the new/female is going to endanger his spot? Mind you, I love Lucina myself, but ain't no way in hell Marth's getting put within 10 feet of the chopping block.

Tangent: I'm of the opinion that this cast is hitting the 50 mark and also that Fire Emblem has proven itself in popularity and critical acclaim to get more than 2 reps. Of course I'm not Sakurai so this is all up in the air.

I think Marth is iconic too, but Awakening was a pretty huge success. I wouldn't be surprised if Awakening "Marth" replaced him, though I find it unlikely.

So with Arena Ferox being in the 3DS version, and Awakening's popularity there's no way Chrom isn't in I feel. Hopefully Ike stays in as well, but Chrom wouldn't feel too out of place with his moveset (with perhaps a slight update...class change mechanic? Lances?) and he has Aether too.

Roy is one thing, but Marth is still "Mr. Fire Emblem" to many FE fans.

If anything, we might get either one of the two or both, if Ike gets the short straw. But Marth's not going anywhere.

I'm hoping "Marth" gets in just to see people's reaction at this point.

I do enjoy that we're under the weird assumption that Sakurai of all people would be stymied by the 3DS and would allow it to limit characters he wants.

It's not like his last 3DS game was packed with content or anything.

While that is true...

"The reality of the situation unfortunately is that there are certain limitations on the 3DS," Sakurai said. The 3DS and Wii U versions of the next Smash Bros will have the same library of characters.

"So we're forced into the situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree. but we're really working hard in order to include as many characters as possible."

How else do you interpret this quote? It sounds like the 3DS is going to hold back the Wii U version in the playable characters department because they don't want to make it look like the 3DS version is inferior.

even though it's inferior no matter what

So from one of the articles in the op it seems there won't be any DLC or alternative costumes? That's really disappointing, if there's one game where I would gladly pay for additional content via DLC it's Smash. There's only one game per system and providing extra characters, stages and costumes would be a great way to keep the community healthy.

I'm disappointed too. There are only two games that would get me to spend ALL my money on DLC:

-Smash Bros
-Marvel vs. Capcom

MVC3 had barely any DLC, and it looks like Smash might not have any at all. What a bummer.

Fox is Ryu, Falco is Ken, Wolf is Akuma. They all follow a similar formula, but the first two have differences only immediately noticeable in competitive play, whereas Ryu/Fox and Akuma/Wolf have massively obvious differences even if they have significantly similar movesets.

I'd be way more down with Fox/Wolf than Fox/Falco.

Roy and Marth have no chance over Lucina or Google Chrome.

As far as I'm concerned, anybody who's appeared in at least two games is likely not going to be cut. The original 12 and anybody that went from Brawl to Melee is safe. It's only Brawl-only people that will likely be cut. At least in my opinion. Also, Marth is the most popular FE lord so there's no way he's going to be cut anyway.

It's been confirmed by Sakurai that those blades you've marked as B moves can be thrown in 8 directions. Any idea how that'll work?

Likely it'll be something like if you tap B you just throw it normally, but if you hold it, you hold the blade like an item and then can throw the blade like an item, since he said it could be picked up as well.

I wholeheartedly agree. I'd prefer even the clones to stick around. The problem is that they end up being sacrifices so the roster size doesn't get out of control. People are always going to expect new characters in Smash so it's only natural for some of the previous roster to get removed. =/ The only guaranteed characters in my mind are the Smash 64 roster :p

To be fair, roster size was more of an issue when Sakurai was basically stuck with the task of balancing characters largely by himself and a select few other testers. And even there, a "manageable" roster size didn't stop the likes of METAKNIGHT from happening.

But now that we've got people who've worked on the Tekken and Gundam Vs. series (whose latest respective entries had upwards of 50-60+ characters to play)? There really shouldn't be any excuses this time. Blow up that roster size and let people who know what they're doing do what they're paid to do, I say.

I won't lie, I would want him in if he can smack people around with ducks.

Well, I can certainly see the 3DS limiting the roster one way or another. I think it's been talked about in this thread as well. =/

I really don't see pokemon trainer being replaced or changed, they might make him a bit better, but he was one of my favourite additions to brawl.

I'd be really sad if I couldn't play as squirtle or charizard in smash 4.
They could always add a female pokemon trainer who has starters from different generations(gen 2, 3, & 5 since lucario could be a gen 4 rep and mewtwo/new form being a gen 6 rep). For example, chicorita, Dewott, and Blaziken or whatever there are a lot of different possibilities. Another possibility is Eevee and somehow incorporate its evolutions into it which would make it a gen 1, 2, 4 & 6 representative. I'm not sure how it could really work but if so it could be an incredibly unique character.

However, adding mewtwo back in and a female pokemon trainer might be too much pokemon representation unless the roster grows proportionally.

Lucina and Ridley are the two newcomers I'd most like to see. At least the ones with remotely realistic chances.

Hopefully Sakurai saw Brawl's hacked-in Ridley to give him some inspiration.

I'm all for "Marth" being in.

I don't know. I like Falco more, but Wolf is the one that is more unique.

Yeah, Wolf is more unique and I would like them to revamped his moveset. He used rocket launcher in Star Fox Assault for pete's sake.

I used to main Falco in Melee and Brawl so I hope that it really show how much I would value unique characters and welcoming new characters to replace Falco.

Why are you putting Marth in quotes? Was he in a recent FE game and something happened to him?

In Fire Emblem Awakening, a new character calling itself "Marth" and wearing a mask appears, and it's one of the game's main characters.

Thinking about it though, the whole "Marth" thing is rather silly. There's no way that character would be included as "Masked Marth", rather than their later appearance.

But they've said the 3DS version would have the same amount of the console version in the dev video...

The rosters will have the same characters, as said in a Kotaku interview yesterday. But the 3DS limits the characters in some other way, or at least that what we're all guessing.

That's not what I meant. I meant the 3DS game can potentially limit the Wii U roster since they will have the same characters. That could be his excuse this time for characters not making the cut this time. I don't think it should be an issue but he could say it was the reason for x and y not making it in the game.

woah...this thread is huge!!! 100 pages +...smash bros is the winner of e3! :D

did anybody else thinks that pikachu never looked as cuteas in the new ssb trailer?

Where was the thing about no DLC or alt costumes? I thought it was just that he didn't have any DLC planned at the time, but would be open to making some at a later date, which is pretty consistent with how Nintendo's handled DLC so far.

I also used to main Falco in Melee and Brawl, and I feel the same way as you.

Though, it's also the fact that I have zero interest in using him a third time, so his inclusion does not matter to me.

I want more unique fighters.

But they've said the 3DS version would have the same amount of the console version in the dev video...
They also said they were having problems making some characters work on the 3DS, which implies the Wii U version / the roster will have to suffer so the 3DS version can be equal.

I think the biggest technical hurdle for the 3DS is screen size.

A character like Ice Climbers or Olimar can clutter the screen quickly and hurt what little screen space they have.

Yeah I'm actually pretty sure clutter is the problem, especially with how much Sakurai seems to "complain" about the 3DS screen size being tiny.

They may have DLC for Smash but I like the idea more of not going in planing on having DLC

By the way, I love the redo of pikachu and bowser.
Pikachu looks 100x cuter and bowser fixed his back problem.

Bowser looks so much better it's not even funny

The fact that they've gone and made a character that I thought was pretty much dead competitively look good again gives me a lot of hope for this game.

I almost miss his "I'm from a godzilla movie or something" look and his tank dash though, almost.
