Super Mario 3D World for Wii U

The part where be ground pounds a coin block and it gets stuck on his head with coins racking up is great.

I wonder if its a way to mock your friends who go underneath to collect coins, then bam, stuck to the guys head and his score is racking up.

Which part of the video is that? Sounds like the coin blocks from NSMB2.

I don't see the big deal in the New series as each character plays exactly the same (except New Super Luigi U)
Well Luigi always jumps higher in the NEW games. But yes, the two toads were always just... there. So glad he finally has his original power again. The power of speed.

Now if only we could get a real sequel to SMB2 after this with vegetables and shyguys and pidgits and Wart. Return to Subcon. Do it!

Pretty sure he doesn't. That's kind of the point, all characters play the same except in Super Luigi.

You sure? I could have sworn he jumped higher in at least NSMB and NSMBW. Especially the first one where they let you play as Luigi after finishing the game.

Edit: I don't know about multiplayer. It's been years since I played with my ex.

I think you might just be confusing it with Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, where Luigi was much slipperier.

Luigi jumped higher too.

Yeh, in multi-player he plays exactly the same. Unlike in this game.

I think he controls differently in NSMB at least when you unlock him. In 3D Land too.

That coin block is in Mario 3D Land. The first time I did it I actually thought the game glitched on me.

My only real criticism is that 3D Land's logo blows 3D World's out the water:

i'm starting to get over it. there was actually a level of the demo i enjoyed due to some difficulty and challenge. 3d world is not the mario platformer i wanted (i don't like 3d land), but i think it'll be an improvement over its predecessor.

while i don't think this was a 3ds-wii u port, i think it's one of the first games they're doing using shared assets (they were planning on something of the sort to make development across two more advanced 3d systems move more smoothly). dkc:tf and smash bros. are probably cut from the same mold.

There are also stages where the timer is the entire point... Given only a dozen seconds to start with but requiring clock pickups and speedy platforming to successfully complete the stage. Having a clock present as a baseline unifies this mechanic across the board so that it's familiar. It also functions as a high score modifer.

Not what I expected but I'm going to reserve judgrment. I've never played a bad 3d Mario title and I was hoping they would add a true multi plater aspect. Should be another great title I play with my wife...I'm ok with that

I hope they have a mode where you can remove the timer. I hate timers for games like these. I wanna take time to explore every nook and cranny of the world.

...it won't happen wont it? :(

My favorite part about Galaxy and 3D Land are how "tactile" everything looks, just makes me want to run around the level. Can't wait til this is out.

They look pretty much identical. Aside from a cat tail and paws instead of a raccoon tail.

I think the colors are much better as is the raccoon tail, not that it matters all that much. Although I think they should get rid of the cat tail, the paw is enough and I keep reading it as "Super Mario 3D WorldS"

The real answer is probably that they were gonna go with blue and yellow Toad again before they decided on Peach (They already stated that they weren't going to make Peach playable at first.), and it's just a coincidence that the original SMB2 Toad was blue.

Hmm, I don't think this is the case.

My takeaway is that Toad is blue because he can stand out from Mario, Luigi and Peach when viewing the game at a distance, especially when all four are powered-up as cats. It gives the 4 of them a distinct chief color so the characters are identifiable at a distance and players can tell who they're controlling quickly.

Speaking of that artwork, I made this 1600x900 wallpaper with my rudimentary Microsoft Paint skills. Note I left some white space on the right to accommodate two columns of desktop icons if need be.

That being said, it'd be GREAT if someone could replicate the dots so they seamlessly continue from the main image and fill in the white space on the left.

Nice picture choices.

Super Mario 3D World looks great, but I hope Nintendo is also making a Mario that's like 64/Sunshine/Galaxy (or open world Mario).

Wii U can't miss out on that, especially since it would really show off the visuals.

Hmm I wonder why Mario's catsuit isn't red.
I'm guessing they wanted a bit more of a natural looking color for the main suit of the game (Mario of course). To make it clearer it's a cat rather than a fox or something.

Think Tanooki being brown, bee being yellow and black etc.

They left room for it.

Id honestly not be dissapointed if they didn't, tho.

3d land/world, i think, is the proper 3d mario transitioning from 2d.

Downloaded the off-screen gameplay video at 60 fps.

Wow.
I wasn't impressed with the game much before just because of expectations.

But it looks great.
