Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Oh man, I hope they reuse this in later trailers:

I'm hoping to see this at the end of the next Nintendo Direct, followed by a trailer where Hades tears the screen apart and crashes the party.

IGN reported it here. Basically they're having issues with the 3DS version in some areas like working in characters like the Ice Climbers (nice we had that not-so-subtle hint they're back considering how many people thought they were axed during Brawl's development) which use more than one character for one playable slot, so they might not wind up releasing at the same time since Nintendo wants them to have roster parity.

I'll gladly take that scenario over having characters cut from the Wii U version since they don't 'work' on the 3DS version.

Are you sure that it's Ice Climbers? ;) It could be Diddy and Dixie Kong.

Anyone else really, really, REALLY want Phoenix Wright?

well yes, but for some reason the marvel thing makes me doubt it since it was so recent. Megaman has been there since the beggining so I think it's different..

i'll settle for Layton

edit: oh i've totally seen that video. For some reason couldnt place those gifs

Considering that Smash is technically a "new" IP for a handheld,
one would think that it would sell the worst but thinking a little bit more,
I'm sure it'll totally eclipse the Wii U version based on the userbase alone.

That'd be like, the 3rd character who's in the game I took out of my original roster prediction submission for your contest after Pac-Man (assuming that leak's legit) and an AC rep.

Tropical Freeze sort of makes that a viable idea again though. I'd still prefer K. Rool, though I GUESS making Diddy paired with Dixie along with bringing in K. Rool would give me all three of the main Kongs and their most consistent villain all in Smash.

Screw MGSV, that would be my trailer of the year.

PW was already in UMvC3 recently, so I don't think his chances are very high. I'll bet you that Megaman was held back from UMvC3 specifically so that he could be exclusively in Smash.

I don't think it's Ice Climbers that's the problem. It seems Rich was using Ice Climbers as an example of multiple characters for one character.
It's hard to tell whether it's something Sakurai said or just something they're inferring when we can't see the interview they had with him.

Personally if it's not something Sakurai said, I reckon it'd probably be Olimar and Pikmin causing the problem. That's like, 7 different characters for one playable slot you can have one screen at one time.

I'm wondering if Monster Hunter might get a rep. It seems obvious. The series is a legit phenomenon and it's officially in bed with Nintendo right now. The question then becomes about the weapon and armor choices.

I really hope the Wii U version of Smash comes out first if anything. I'm kind of afraid that if the 3ds version releases first than people won't feel the need to get the Wii U version. I really hope that whatever connectivity the games has it makes it much better to have both.

Could that screenshot be an implication that we'll be able to walk into that tent at some point?

I think it's just Kirby doing a taunt while Samus turns around. I remember lots of pictures people could take in Brawl with the in game screenshots that gave the illusion that the characters weren't walking in the right plane. That's the same thing. It's not really special.

Yeah you're right. I see the resemblance now. I was kind of hoping for new taunts, but oh well.

SO do the Wii U and 3DS games connect at all?

Yes, for some kind of customization.

"The Wii U and 3DS versions of the new Super Smash Bros. will not feature cross-platform play, director of Sora Ltd. Masahiro Sakurai tells Joystiq. Since each version of the game has completely different stages, cross-platform play wouldn't work, he told us through an interpreter. Each version will interact with one another, however, as announced back in 2011. Specifically, players will be able to take characters they've customized and transfer them to the Wii U version."

I feel it is Captain Olimar too, but I'm thinking the 3DS screen is going to be smaller than it will be ideal to see the Pikmin.

I really doubt it.

Monster Hunter's staff didn't want Monster Hunter content in MvC3. I don't think they'd have a different opinion about Smash.

Only thing that would hold him back, methinks, is if Konami doesn't agree to him appearing in Smash again. After how well-received he was in Brawl, I doubt Sakurai or Nintendo would have a problem with him returning.

Nintendo should have a problem with him returning. Nintendo shouldn't be in the business of selling other consoles.

"Hey, do you like playing as that Snake guy in Smash?"

"Yes!"

"Well, you need to buy an Xbox One or PS4 to play his latest adventures."

"I can't play the latest Snake game on Wii U?"

"No way! Snake isn't gamepad compatible."

You're looking at it the wrong way: Snake's inclusion in Smash attracts fans from -other- consoles. The hardcore MGS fanatics who have to have everything with Snake in it will consider the game (and system) more seriously if there's heavy MGS fan service involved.

Also, Brawl came out the same year MGS4 came out on PS3, and yet it didn't stop Snake from being in Brawl. I mean, at least this time around there's an MGS game on a current Nintendo system (MGS3D on 3DS).

Here's the source for the Monster Hunter team not wanting an appearance in MvC3:

Certainly they were on the list and we actually made a proposal to the Monster Hunter team and producer. The answer I believe came back was no. You don’t just have to have the idea to have the character. You also have to get permission from the producer of that series to include the character and however they are implemented. They thought it wasn’t a good fit for the game and maybe they’re right. The hunter is sort of a malleable personality, rather than a super strong character in Monster Hunter since he’s so customizable.

From there where do you go? Like a Felyne? A Poogie? I don’t know. A Lagiacrus or something like that. I don’t know what you’re going to put in there from Monster Hunter. So, anyway it didn’t work out. They’re just too cool for us.

The MGS rep in Brawl directly referenced MGS4, also. If it wasn't an issue then I can't see why it should be now.

I do. Those are two completely different games. Most devs consider it an honor to have their characters included in Smash. Kojima lobbied Sakurai for it personally.

I don't see that. I see the reverse. Fans of Smash are more likely to buy the games/series the characters are from (hence the huge reception to the newest Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem games) than the other way around.

Basically I can imagine someone liking Snake in Smash and buying an MGS game (assuming it was on the Wii/WiiU) more than I can the reverse

The other thing is that at this point i'd imagine devs want their characters in Smash Bros as a way to better enter the western audience as well.

I mean look at the Marth and Roy situation.

Monster Hunter could use the SHIT out of that.

well sure but I mean, cooking meat attack, running animation, etc. He'd look great and appropriately "playful"

That is true, and his taunts would be hilarious.

But Kojima did that because his kid and him liked to play Smash, but he said there was no character from a game Kojima made.

I'm all for this.

Snake is only in Brawl because Kojima begged Sakurai. There are other third party characters that could attract non-Nintendo fans besides Snake.
