Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Her game's not even out yet. And that one other game she appeared in was in other consoles. People only really wanted her in because she's omg edgy and Nintendo-exclusive now
No, people want Bayonetta because she would be absolutely incredible from a gameplay and variety standpoint. Butterfly wings, panther transformations, leg-mounted rocket launchers, ice skates that leave trails of snow, whips, laser guns, etc. As a bonus to Nintendo, it would advertise her game, Bayonetta 2, to an audience of millions, boosting sales of Bayonetta 2 (which remember, is being funded by Nintendo -- they don't want it to fail). Check out my thread on the subject.

Ridley is the only other character needed. Like F-Zero Metroid is a series of a few worthwhile characters aside Samus. Maybe if Adam wasn't awful he could have had potential but no, it's only Ridley and no. He's not too big. Just make him like a skinnier and purpler Charizard or something man.

Lol, I was being facetious. But I can very much see how making Ridley work could be awkward, and not just because of his size. He hardly moves along the ground - he kind of perches when grounded and flies otherwise, for one thing.

And when he does add reps to his franchise he adds two and makes them some of the best in the game. I don't understand "fucking metroid" are you surprised that Metroid, being the franchise that it is got more stages than Kirby but no other representative (I guess ZSS counts but it's still Samus) while the Kirby series got 2? I dunno, I think he definitely has a bias and he shows it.
The problem with Metroid is that it isn't really a character-based series that lends itself to a fighting game. The only characters besides Samus memorable or iconic enough to be considered are the Metroid itself, Ridley, Kraid, and Mother Brain, and only Ridley kinda sorta would work as a playable character. The whole point of Metroid is that you're supposed to feel alone and isolated, and that means inhabiting the world with a bunch of non-humanoid aliens unfit for Smash Bros. I guess there's Dark Samus, but I don't think Sakurai (or Japan in general?) thinks too highly of the Prime series.

Magnus will get in... as an Assist Trophy that dashes forward and OHKOs with his club.

Palutena will be the playable character. Remember guys: In Japan, Kid Icarus is called Palutena no Kagami.

She's the "Zelda" of her series.

a.k.a "Palutena's Mirror"

I'm afraid we'll jynx her though :(

Knowing my luck, she'll be an assist trophy or she'll appear in the kid icarus stage if Pit holds the taunt button and talk about the various characters (which wouldn't be that bad)

Don't forget this guy

I'm so late to the party but Wii Fit Trainer... did they already run out of interesting characters or was there actual demand for her?

I'd love Takamaru to be the retro revival. Hey, he has his own Nintendo Land attraction and his Famicon game received a rating in Australia, indicating it's receiving a Western Virtual Console release. Might as well grease the wheels for a full-on revival!

Takamaru is a shoe-in.

I'm definitely interested in playing as him if he gets in and I also want to play the game he originates from.

...did you watch the video of her? She's the coolest-looking character yet.

The fact Sakurai can still surprise and delight us with characters nobody guessed is amazing. I mean, consider the fact the Smash Bros. Roster Maker program has thousands of character icons but not one for her -- and this is a program that even has an icon for Flipnote Frog, lol.

Wii Fit Trainer looks amazing.

Since that Polygon interview implied all newcomers would be getting the CG trailer treatment, Takamaru's video has to feature Link, Samus, and Pit.

There was no demand for her, but she was included to be kind of an oddball choice like Mr. Game & Watch and ROB were in the last few games (and also probably because Wii Fit sold so well).

I suppose, but I mean I think that if Sakurai somehow found a way to use Wii Fit Trainer, then Ridley shouldn't be all that much harder to make a moveset for. Just make him a primarily useful air character. Have him be slow on the ground and up his game in the air or something. I believe there could be a good way to include him as a playable character, and after he's included then Metroid as a series wouldn't need anybody else really. Dark Samus could just be an alt costume.

Takamaru is qvshoe-in.

I don't think he's shoe-in character now. I have a bad feeling about him and Palutena since they didn't really announce two obvious characters in SSB4 Trailer.

I guess it's better to wait and see if they will get in or not.

Agreed. Link and Takamaru are like spiritual siblings -- one more action-oriented than the other, but similar in ways. Pit and Samus are equivalent siblings. Together, they are the Famicon Four!

Under that argument Pikachu is also a female. Japanese women voice cute critters all the time.

Except for the fact that Pikachu's tail is that of a male's and if it does have the same voice as in the anime, Pikachu was already proven to be a male anyway via Attract. Note the poster said that the Ivysaur had the same voice as a female one that was in the series.

Honestly, Takamaru definitely has that big chance to be included, and I have no doubt about that he will indeed be one of the Retro Revivals.

Then Kamiya can take over, and make his game. :3

I think the goal with the SSB4 debut was to surprise people with characters they -didn't- see coming. The expected characters like Palutena will come later.

Any Style Savvy fans here? I'd love someone to dream up a Style Savvy character and moveset. I haven't seen anyone propose a specific character from Style Savvy, which makes me think Sakurai is making such a character, lol.

If Masked Marth replaces Marth then I hope a turd replaces Snake. Super Spite Bros. for Wii U.

I wouldn't be surprised necessarily to see Takamaru, but I feel that all the expectations around him appearing is more the community convincing itself on its own that he's the likeliest character ever, a byproduct of our echo chamber, not that he's necessarily super likely.

Takamaru may be a spiritual Pit to Link's Samus, but, well, he's no Pit, not even in Japan.

Ugh, I just realized that Other M made Sakurai's job easier for making the Gravity Suit an alternate color scheme...

Actually, it made both the Legendary Power Suit and the Legendary Gravity Suit pretty easy, since they're recolors anyways. And that last one is just re-coloring some lights...

I would think that Takamaru would be pretty cool as an inclusion, but that just means one more swordsman in the game and that's kind of iffy, as much as I love him. He was in Captain Rainbow so maybe there's a chance of him appearing again in the new smash based on that and Nintendoland? Also my choice for retro revival would be Sukapon. He's the grandfather of Nintendo fighting games! He should be more than just a sticker like how he was in Brawl. He even already has a moveset man!

That Other M gravity suit. So awful jesus.

I really don't see them dropping the proper Gravity Suit colors just because Other M was fucking Other M.

Fucking Other M, I swear.

I do bet we'll actually get to see the proper Gravity Suit colors on Smash 4 Samus and show what Sakamoto deemed "too silly" in his abortion of a storyline.

He did appear in a Wii game and had his own theme in Nintendoland.

Also, Sakurai has said that he wants to continue using Smash as a way to bring back retro characters.

Takamaru is the first person that comes to mind.

Personally, I want Sukapon.

heh, and now I just remembered that we didn't get anything Wave Race or Pilotwings related either. Stop ignoring your awesome IPs Nintendo and get to it
Ryota (lol I couldn't remember his name) from Wave Race would be such a great WTF character.

Just not on the same level as Wii Fit Trainer.

He wouldn't really play like any of the other swordsmen, though. He's a samurai. He can also throw shuriken and fireballs, turn invisible, and summon lightning.

So he's basically Mario, Metaknight, Pikachu and Sheik in one? Hohoho

Are there really any BIG first party characters left to include? I mean, we're digging through Famicom Detective Club to find new characters. Villager was a big addition, but I can't think of many big, or even cult, Nintendo franchises that are lacking representation unless we go the Japan-only route. Maybe Mike Jones from Startropics.

Also if they do put in Takamaru, they should use his Captain Rainbow design.

Middle-aged Andross was Master AND Crazy Hand!?
Kawashima would be the most brutal character. Imagine: His neutral special would be causing craniums to combust. How? Frustration -- the opponent would repeatedly try to say the color "Blue" while Kawashima mistakes it for "Yellow."
