Why do alot of people hate kanye?

He's an insufferable braggart and narcissist in his lyrics. Most people don't like arrogance, and as endemic to hip-hop as it is, Yeezy takes it even further. It's a real turnoff.

He's completely lacking in humility. And he should have some too because he's not that good. He's a great producer, don't get me wrong, but he's only an average rapper.

I love how OP is hellbent on defending Kanyes honor. Are you Kanye, or his mom, maybe his PR person? Why are you so invested in this that you started a thread asking people for reasons they dislike him and when they post their reasons you reply to every otherpost trying to dispute them? Seriously, your level of fandom is disturbing.

And people don't like him because he's a douche.

Guy can't rap for shit
He'd do that much more for hip hop if he accepted his lack of lyrical talent and stuck to producing

This is pretty true, and it seems like he's kind of run out of new things to say recently.

I feel like a lot of people who don't like Kanye much (which is fine) completely understate his cultural impact and what he did for the industry. He is easily one of the most important artists to come out of the last decade.

industry still sucks so it couldn't have been much

Somewhere in the shuffle of his success he lost himself. This is the guy that made college drop out, the fun loving dude who wore polo, enjoyed dressing himself in preppy garb and had a smile from ear to ear when doing interviews and shows... Now hes become a pompous asshole who thinks, or puts on the face of a "disturbed" genius... He's talented no doubt... But I think he forces his own talent because he might feel it's the only way to leave a mark on music history

People always remember the weird.

And I feel like people who do like him this much overstate his impact. To each his own.

He is a over confident ass who really hasn't made a good album since Late Registration sooo... its kinda like Metallica bucha rich yuppies who think they are hard.

His music stinks now. I don't really hate him, though. I'm just apathetic and also wonder why some people are so in love with him.

He is at the top of the pyramid but the music industry and culture has degraded.

Things move 1000mph today. There isn't breathing room. The music charts are a conveyer belt for the lowest common denominator. The chances to thread the needle are increased by the overabundance of Featuring Featuring Featuring Featuring Featuring Featuring on what seems like 90% of songs.

Is Kanye West racist? I always see him as the hip hop industry's equivalent of Dave Chappelle when it comes down to racial commentary. Difference is Kanye can't obscure how serious he is about it behind jokes and amazing TV show enactments (Because people don't realize how utterly serious Dave Chappelle is actually being when he speaks on race). Dave makes it funny to talk about, Kanye makes it uncomfortable.

I'm still trying to figure out what the point of this thread is...

OP is obviously a fan and will deflect anything negative that is said about the dude so why bother? Even if anyone had a legitimate response for the main question, it wouldn't matter seeing as (A) No one knows the dude IRL and (B) Our perceptions of his character are built squarely upon how he is portrayed in the media.....which incoincidentally also happens to be the only viable source to receive access to whatever goes on in his life.

The funniest part about all this is that you could ask the same question ("Why the hate") and refer it to anyone. Kayne West could be Hitler and it wouldn't fucking matter because he will always have fans that support his every move and there will always be people that will hate him no matter what. (Please say something witty about my comparison between a Dictator who killed 6 million people and a musical artist...Go on)

So i ask again....What the fuck is the point of this thread? You're asking a bunch of people who personally don't know the guy why they hate him and yet you give out responses that show you're not surprised by the reactions people are giving. I'm starting to think this is more of a poor attempt in trolling rather than a legitimate question because for someone with this much foresight, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

This should have been the final response given before the thread was abandoned.

What are we supposed to base our opinions of celebrities off other than media portrayals? Unless you're best buds with Ye, none of us know the "real him" so as long as there's an inherent acknowledgement in our judgements that they're really just conjecture and not definitive what's wrong with doing so?

My most burning question though is why do you care what some people think of a celebrity you like? You like him, that's cool, isn't that enough?

So we're done here, right?

So we're done here, right?

Was looking for a summary of this thread, and I found it. Well played.

- He's a stupid asshole.
- His ego.
- Sucks as a rapper. Jay-Z passed on signing him (Dame Dash signed him). Did not gain the respect as an MC from Common and Talib Kweli 10+yrs ago, no one wanted to hear this fool rap. He used his god tier production skills (God tier pre-2007) to get a rap career, can't knock the hustle.
- Was a decent MC for his first two albums, then skills dropped considerably from Graduation forward. Lost a ghost writer or what?
- As his rapping and productions skills declined, his fame grew... and so did his ego, which gave him absolutely no incentive to improve his work, which has been on the decline since his 3rd album.
- and yeah, he's a fucking asshole.
- is a confusing individual. Has glimpses of pro-blackness and afro-centricity in his work which is great... then sounds like he needs white acceptance and validation in his interviews. You can see this in his appeal for the pop crowd, which has made his later work weak in comparison to his first two albums.

Good sampling isn't easy dude.

I partially agree. I just can't give credit when monster stars sample music from other monster stars. You can't make a hit from a song that was already a hit. I'm just not giving you that credit unless you completely transform it.

That's all fine and dandy, but a pretty dumb way of choosing what music you listen to.
He must listen to Mr. Rogers sings the hits or something.

You can, but that isn't even what YEEZUS does. More of his samples come from lost/bside soul/R&B tracks. Most dudes who sample got crates of long lost artists and tracks long gone and probably thought lost to time.

It's your reasoning
It's fine I just think its petty to be upset over that or judge him based on few things when he's really quite a positive influence in hip hop

He and his ilk are the greatest source of Hip Hop's woes.

Mainstream pap for the masses, doesn't help that he's also shown himself to be lacking in any form of character.

He seems like an asshole to be honest, I don't follow music artists so I don't really have much to say in regards to his music, I do not know the name of any of his songs

His new CD is about as far from "mainstream pop for the masses" as you can get from a big-name artist.

I don't "hate" him, but I do think he's a douche. When the Taylor Swift incident happened it didn't surprise me at all since the guy had a history of acting up during awards shows.
