As for fire emblem i believe if Nintendo wants to sell more copys of FE:awaken (which i highly doubt since it was well received) they would added Lucina, since she is popular character, fights like Marth (but was she was actually trained by her father thus why they had the same fighting style during the cut scene) people would see her and would wonder who she is. If they wanted to just add a FE rep, like they did brawl they'll use the obvious Chron since he was the biggest part of fe, he was the character who gave you a chance, you bring him into almost all you're mission plus he is the main character best friend, and you talk to him when making you're final decision in end game.
Remember even though its a Nintendo game they said before that the developers behind these characters want it accurately represented. And there's normally always a reason why a certain character is chosen to represent a franchise. I'd personally love to see Lucina in with a different move set, a sleaker Marth (beside i think Marth deserves to nice replacement) But pretty sure Chron will make it in.
That's what I pegged Magnus as when he was first unveiled at E3 2010 -- "Oh look, he'd totally work for Smash" -- but it's hard to say with all of the cool characters Uprising introduced or overhauled. I wouldn't be opposed to him. If I had to pick one KIU newcomer, though, it'd be Palutena... Hades being an immediate second. Palutena is the series' "Zelda" and is even the namesake of the Japanese name of the series, so I'd say she has a good chance.
Magnus would be a really boring character. He basically has the same exact abilities as Ike does in Brawl but without the fancy special moves. If he gets in, I'd be a little disappointed.

Usually I agree with this sentiment, but I don't think Magnus has much room for development as a fighting game character in a series that already had Ike.
I haven't seen anything to suggest Wii Fit Trainer isn't boring. She's an interesting choice aesthetically and in terms of game representation, but we haven't seen her moveset yet.
Magnus is 100% boring compared to the possibilities Palutena and Hades offer. It would be a gaming crime on par with canceling another Megaman game to include him over them.

Magnus would be a power character. Aside from absolutely wrecking people's shit with his club, they could get creative with his moves. For example, his Final Smash could be (KIU spoiler)
Dark Lord Gaol, since the curse was broken but she retained her dark lord powers, as seen in one of the Great Sacred Treasure trials
I still didn't play FE Awakening, but she's the only character other than OG Marth (I think?) that getting a high end toy, and a statue at that so yeah she has popularity on her side.

There's still a lot we don't know about Magnus, he's Kid Icarus version of Guts, a seemingly normal human with a mysterious past who can somehow stand up to insane monsters and demons no human should ever have a chance against.

Sakurai actually demonstrated nearly all of Wii Fit Trainer's moves aside from two of her specials. The two specials we saw were the hula hoop recovery and the soccer ball spike. Sakurai ran through most, if not all of her physicals, though, each of which assumes a different yoga pose, stretch or flex. Look up the developer diary for the game on YouTube and watch her segment. I love how they even cleverly turned her teetering-on-the-edge animation into an opportunity for her to practice balancing, lol.

I wouldn't say there's no chance. She's the main villain in the classic Kid Icarus games, after all. But Sakurai already disregarded her place in the series with Uprising, so I dunno.
I do agree, though, her design is fantastic, and she looks like she would be an awesome addition to the roster.
They aren't taking up a roster spot. Where has Sakurai ever suggested that this was the case? When has Sakurai EVER stated that if he didn't do clones, he would add other characters?
Melee's loss of clones results in fewer characters, not new characters like Wario or Meta Knight.
He never said that, it's just that clones are useless and awful. Make them into alt. costumes or don't bother. There is no middle ground for me on the issue. The only technical "clone" I've ever liked over a main character has been Charlie from Street Fighter, and even then you could argue that Guile is the clone given that due to the story he was trained by Charlie.
Just adding another sword wielder (one that is similar looking to Marth no less) would be trolling the fan base. Of all of the great Nintendo characters to choose from out there, if they are going to just keep adding sword wielders from FE, then they need to just stop, and tap other series.
Just because somebody uses a sword doesn't make them all the same. There are many different types of swords and styles to fight using each of those different sword types. This is basically arguing, I don't want anybody that punches because Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Captain Falcon, Ganondorf, Snake and etc all punch. It's all going to be the same shit. Lyn can dual wield and use a bow, Isaac can use a sword along with Psyenergy. Besides there are plenty of characters in FE who deserve to be included as playable who don't wield only swords. Like previously stated, Lyn can be made to dual wield and she actually does wield a bow in her games. Sigurd and Seliph are both mounted units and their inclusion would be incredibly interesting if they had access to that, and they both also use Lances to fight. Hector uses axes primarily, and we even have main protagonists who use magic. FE is an old series and it deserves the same amount of recognition as other older multi-rep series in smash. Just because the character has a sword doesn't mean they can't be creative with their movesets.
Because he's boring as shit. Toad is one of the most underwhelming and generic characters in Mario, so much so that they use his kind when making generic villagers. Waluigi has way more personality and he even has fan popularity, not to mention he was an assist trophy in Brawl.
Because at this point most people assume that they arent gonna have 3-4 blue haired sword wielders. If she gets in, the logic goes itll be at Marth's expense, which means she'll likely inherit his moveset so they dont lose it.
And Ezalac at some point having a billion similarly colored swordsmen is just boring. Maybe they should make another game were the main character isnt the same old pallet and using something other than a fucking sword.
Toad has a lot of personality. I could see them making him into a playable character. Since he has appeared in two console NSMB titles now, they could give him the ability to don special outfits for the duration of moves: Penguin Suit for a long-distance slide and/or firing ice cubes... the Propeller Suit or Flying Squirrel Suit for his recovery move... and so on. But he could also uproot vegetables and toss them (maybe even POW Blocks), or perhaps manipulate the puzzle pieces from Wario Woods. I'm sure if they put their mind to it, they could do it. He has such a cute personality and distinctive "shriek," I couldn't help but smile if they added Toad.
Also, where Peach's Toad shield is concerned, she could simply whip out Toadsworth instead!

Yeah, that's definitely something that would give her the biggest chance. But with Uprising, she loses the opportunity. >.< I think she would a really great character to add. Female, with a villainous role, which we don't have.
I disagree with anyone wanting Hades to be a playable character. For starters, he is too big. It would be far more interesting if he showed up as a boss with unique dialog for each character and have some dialog back and forth between the Kid Icarus reps and him. A big part of Hades' character is his dialog (it is more important to him than say Pit and Palutena), so to see it in Smash and listening to him interact with all of the characters of Smash.
With Mega Man: "Who so glum chum?"
With Kirby: "You can suck everything...but me! Hahahaha!"
With Ness: "Why don't you go back to your Mother?"
And yea, I'm sorry I'm so terrible, but it would much funnier than this in-game.
Haha, I always wanted to say this, I'm not being serious with the he's too big point.

I saw it. We still haven't seen what those moves actually do, though. Like...if you saw me B-side with Ganondorf, you would have no idea that the movie was a grapple. We just saw a hula hoop and a ball, we didn't see what those moves do. They could be boring copies of Links moves (spin slash and bomb toss), or they could be interesting (ball spike richochets off surfaces and characters and can be hit around, hula hoop...I don't know). I'm just not ready to rejoice over having her from a gameplay perspective just yet.
My picks go as follows:
Palutena > Hades >>> Medusa > Viridi >>>>>> Magnus
Palutena is definitely my No. 1 pick from Kid Icarus, but I can see Magnus working and working well, if it comes down to it.
Magnus just seems like he would be Ike. Now, Ike was my main in Brawl (<3 Bowser, Samus, and Ganondorf as well), so I'm not opposed to big sword wielding dudes. I just think we have enough sword-wielding dudes right now. There's hardly any magic users in the game, even though magic offers far more interesting gameplay possibilities.

You got the Ness one right, but the other two would be saucier. He'd be flirting with Kirby and calling him a cute little pink fluffer ball or something. Hades flirts with everyone. He also loves puns, so instead of "Why so glum, chum?", he would say "What's the matter, Miniman?", or "What's your problem, Buster?"
Hades is however big he wants to be. He's a goddamn god. Palutena is huge at times in the KI games, but she also shrinks down to Pit's size on one occasion.
Edit: Did not read the spoiler...did you edit that in?

I wouldn't mind him. I generally wish he would get more recognition, outside of Luigi's Mansion and Mario & Luigi. He would make a great addition to the spin-off series, for instance.

Palutena projects herself as a big hologram thing, she's never actually seen physically gigantic like Hades and Medusa are.
The only indication that there is no consistency to the gods' size in the Kid Icarus universe is the inconsistency between Medusa's size in the original Kid Icarus (same size as Palutena) and Uprising (fucking huge), and considering the uncertainty regarding Uprising's Medusa (she doesn't seem to be the real Medusa), I'm not sure how far we can take that.
The gods can project themselves as large as they want but there's never any god in Uprising seen actually physically changing their size.

I understand. Personally, I'm excited about her. I just like how snappy all of her moves appear. I think it'll be fun to play as a character that quickly assumes a variety of wildly different poses in quick succession, all while she delivers motivational dialogue, lol. Also, it does appear her soccer ball projectile can be volleyed around by other players, since there's a screen showing Mario about to spike it. So that's at least one extra property to the move.

YES @ the interactable volley ball. Now I'm on board.
It seems like interactable projectiles is something Sakurai is doing more of. Villager can capture projectiles and throw them back out, and Megaman can throw/drop his Metal Blade. Personally, I think the Metal Blade is already OP because it can fire diagonal. It's the new "stand on the bottom of Hyrule Castle and spam Thunder with Pikachu".
I usually read a post, then quote it, and then post. Sometimes the post gets edited before I hit the quote button, and GAF automatically updates the post I'm quoting to its current version. I thought that maybe that happened.

Maybe. There's really nothing to stop Sakurai from playing the "he's a god" card, though.
Not to mention in Smash, they're toys based on the characters. It's mainly about keeping proportions -- and Hades has a humanoid shape that's no stranger to the game.
Mind you Olimar is the size of a quarter in terms of lore.

Now it could be a separate item, possibly, but I'm leaning toward this being Mario hitting a ball spawned by Wii Fit Trainer, much like how other players can grab Mega Man's Metal Blade and turn it against him.
Look Beef, you're from the FGC. I don't give a fuck about your definition of a clone. You are one of the people that actually gives a shit about character properties like where the character will go after he gets hit by this attack, oh the clone sends him back but the original sends him up. SO MANY POSSIBILITIES. I don't give a shit about that, I'm not looking to carefully combo shit and whatever. If Fox and Falco have the same moves, but they just function a little differently like how I said it. Then they are clones and deserve to be relegated to being an alternate costume or removed. Nothing else.

He literally said that. Clones were added after the roster was finished. Explain to me where the logic that the lack of clones would lead to new characters that aren't clones.
You also discuss the idea of clones being awful and useless. Hmm...
The current Melee tier list has Falco only one spot below Fox. Dr. Mario well above Mario. Ganondorf a few spots below Captain Falcon. Young Link only one spot below Link. The only low tier clone relative to a higher tier clone is Roy.
In Brawl, we have... Falco well above Fox, Toon Link well above Link (like five tier classes ahead). Conversely, Ganondorf and Lucas lose to their counterparts, but their counterparts are poor as well. Frankly, calling them useless and awful is complete bias, and completely baseless. Clones clearly are not useless. If Falco was the original, and Fox was the clone, would Fox be useless? Of course not. You can't play any clone like you do the original, so they are in no way redundant to their originals.
Luigi being the only one of those whom I accept. Yes I would rather have melee with less characters than the clones.
