Why do alot of people hate kanye?

People are always picking and choosing lyrics. That's the silliest shit to me. It's just confirmation bias at work.

I know but I don't really know how else to present my thoughts on this especially considering we're talking about lyrics.

Of course the opportunity remains to post Kanye's greatest lyrical accomplishments to quash my offerings. Preferably from Yeezus though, I'd rather not listen to, or trawl through his scrawl again.

Edit- Damn DominoKid, I mean. How the fuck else am I supposed to critique a self proclaimed rapper, especially one that considers himself among the best, without using their lyrics?

I picked a random song from his new album, and a looked at a verse - as it turns out I thought it sufficient to prove my point. Could do without the insult.

In 10 years, we'll look at him the same way we look at Ja Rule now
Ja Rule had a pretty different career in pretty much every aspect.

Ja Rule died out because he kept making the same shit over and over and someone new came to town, Ye is the poster child for staying relevant and fresh sonically, and his contemporaries can't keep up.

He's been on media hiatus for a couple years now
Not to mention he moved away from mainland USA just to get away from the media. Hawaii/Paris/Italy are his escapes. Marrying a media whore is another thing though, pretty sure he's going to hate living with her there where he can't get away from the media.

That fact that he is with Kim makes me think he likes the attention, moving away was a front..

Ugh. Obviously you're a huge Kanye fan, and that's fine, but you know why many people dislike him. He acts like a douchebag literally 100% of the time (that he's exposed to the public). I like his music, but most people don't. Not everybody is a hip hop fan. If somebody does not like his music, his talent means nothing. That's like me asking you to respect the talent of Dierks Bentley or something (note: I do enjoy Kanye's music and I hate country, but I realize that other people feel the opposite).

He would be in a much better position if he let his talent speak for itself rather than feeling the need to broadcast it himself. He's good at what he does (though Yeezus is a step down), but he has no class whatsoever. He's an insecure asshole that's good at something.

Holy shit...

About 11% of the OP's total posts are in this thread alone.

yeah i remember seeing Yeezy w/ the Henny bottle and knowing nothing good would come from that. but something amazing did.

because the overall product is more important than just the lyrics. kanye isn't a great lyrical technician but he's an effective rapper. there's a difference. hooks, beats, cohesiveness, all that other stuff as important.

so yeah, when folks look at just the lyrics, i'm gonna call them idiots because that's what they are. you're missing the point by only focusing on one aspect. i mean there's a reason why most of Nas' albums suck complete dick even though he's the best rapper ever.

Seeing as the dude was walking around the show chuggin Hennessy I'd say he was probably drunk.
Yeah this is the last thing to ask for evidence of, unless you want piss tests or something. :lol

Dude was straight ripped. Don't know how you could miss those photos/video either when they accompanied every report of the Swift incident.

I don't understand it, and they base their hate off media portrayals.
Very ignorant IMO

I don't understand how anyone in the general public can be expected to form an opinion of a celebrity from anything other than media coverage. Meeting Kanye in person and hanging out with him until you get to learn whether you like him or not, doesn't seem very realistic.

I wouldn't say I hate the guy, but he makes it hard to like him, with his constant boasting, his terrible fashion choices, his frequent scowling, the lame and ignorant outbursts he's had at inappropriate moments like the Taylor Swift thing or the "Bush doesn't care about black people" thing. Then after all that negativity he generates, he seems to have this persecution complex like everyone is being mean to him for no reason. There's clearly a reason; he acts like an asshole.

I don't understand how anyone could love this person, even if some of his songs are great.

You need people like him

You need people like Kanye, so you can point your fucking fingers and say THATS THE BAD GUY.

lol funny story, this comparison actually came to my mind the other day. Kanye really is the rap Tony Montana. thug rappers revere and compare themselves to him, but Kanye (decidedly non-thug) embodies him more than any of them.

i was actually going to make a long ass post about this but i know GAF wouldn't get it. well GAF-Hop would...

You should have just made the post

He's arrogant and an attention whore. But that's not exclusive to Kanye.

But I'll tell you that many, MANY white folk (who don't like hip hop/rap anyway) absolutely hate Kanye for his anti-GWB outburst.

Personally, I ain't hating. I enjoy a lot of his music. Good beats.

He's talented, but to me, he comes off as a smug, douchey, child. That's just my opinion of him since I don't know him personally. For all I know, it could be a total act and he could be one of the nicest human beings on earth.

People hate on anything and everything, Just look at the Gaming Forum.

You got alot of people that hate on CoD. It still puts up numbers regardless.

You got alot of people that hate on the Heat. They still win games regardless.

You got alot of people that hate on Obama. He's still the president regardless.

Hate is pretty transparent when I think about it. The same person "hating" Kanye is still bumpin Late Registration while cleaning the house or watching his videos on MTV Jams.

That said, I guess its due to his attitude and the way he portrays himself. I don't know the guy so I can't judge him. Who know's... could be an act to sell his image. That's 90% of music nowadays >_> Selling an image...

LOL so we can't base an opinion of him based on how he acts in the media!

We can't form an opinion of him based on the stupid nursery rhymes he writes! Only base it on his production and whether it sounds good! Lot of stipulations.

Simple fact is Kanye brough a lot of this negative attention upon himself. The media didn't force him to run up on stage, bitch, cry, and complain like a 2 year old. But oh yeah that's passion and only true musicians with passion care so much so we should ignore all that too.

I get that some people love Kanye but I don't get how those who love Kanye don't also see why he is easily disposable to people who don't think he creates the best music and then on top of that acts like a baby? I mean I like his work. I don't love it. Some of his production is otherworldly. I love that he tries to introduce new concepts.

But his rhyming, lyrics, and content just lacks so much that his overall goal to create a Picasso falls short. And as I once already mentioned in the main hip hop thread in the community section, Kanye loves to scratch the surface of certain subjects to make it seem like he is a deeper backpack rapper, but in reality its just surface level rhymes HE knows will get a certain audience to pay attention. He will brush up on the struggle, the black women issues, race issues, or politics in general but can't really go in to it further.

He will claim his disdain for the media but then turns around and is with the biggest media whore. Will go out of his way to be see in the media, especially at award shows. His musical persona doesn't match his real life persona. His lyrical content alludes to something greater but it never matches the production or his own desire to achieve greatness. His shitty attitude just takes it to another level.

This dude’s such an idiot. He always wants you to believe that he is a civil rights leader, martyr, changing the world, but he’s nothing more than an arrogant prick who thinks the world owes him something. You coming to a fashion show is the equivalent of a civil rights sit in?!! For real?!! Did someone sick rabid dogs on you? Did someone bash your brains in until you passed out? Did the police turn a water hose on you? Were you arrested and thrown until jail? No? Well sit your simple behind down! The time you tried to be a civil rights activist with your weak, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” you showed how ill fit you were to lead us. It came out just as your position as a civil rights leader would be: so weak that you don’t even believe you’re own silly self. You’re not a messiah. You’re a semi-genius hip hop producer who’s clever with the pen. Be that! It will make things a whole lot easier.

Quoted from another site, pretty much spot on.

Ja Rule sounded like a dying fire truck siren. A low one. The one they use to go through intersections, only more annoying and off tune.

I don't really listen to his music or pay a lot of attention to his promotions, so I can't say I like him or hate him. I liked the Daft Punk song better than his "version". I also think that the photo of Kanye and Kim blown up into fat people is funny and probably prescient. I'd also like to have sex with his wife and her sisters or her mom. Particularly that crazy ass mom, because you know whatever perverted shit you could ever think of she's done 20 times.

I like Kanye, both in being entertained by his antics and his actual music, but if you can't figure out why some people don't like Kanye, you haven't been paying attention.

In a lot of his interviews he comes across as a raving narcissistic lunatic. I mean he consistently compares himself to the most important people who ever lived.

I don't hate him, but I certainly don't like his personality.

Agreed. Seems the OP wants us all to worship the ground the Yeezus walks on. Jesus.

Because if you're going to be a dick and show-off, you should have enough charisma to make your lousy personality more edible. Kanye is an awkward, socially-stunted bore whose outburts and need for attention can be compared to those of a teenager.

He is a real dipshit. Guy is talented as hell but I wish he would tone it down a bit. Also I wish he would tone down the constant misogyny on his albums but I wish this from almost all rappers.
