Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Gotcha. Was hoping I read it wrong. While silly, alternate costumes is really high on my wish list.

Same here! I'm tired of just palette swaps when more can be done with the characters. For example, having Samus' alts be things like the Fusion Suit, Phazon Suit, Light Suit, etc shouldn't be too difficult, or giving Mario a Dr. Mario costume for example...

While not necessary, it would be a lot of fun collecting new costumes for everyone!

I'm very curious as to what English Marth would sound like, but I'm also conditioned to expect Japanese Marth voice track to happen again.

What are they doing?

Still can't get over how frantic it looks. The action seems as, or even more rapid as in Melee. This game is gonna be great, I don't care about L-cancelling, wavedashing and whatever, but pace is of utmost value to me.

Who the fuck hates on Waluigi? Idiots.

I know, and seeing people say "oh people only like him because he's a Wario clone with shitty Luigi paint" is terrible.

Waluigi hasn't been given nearly enough chances and also deserves his own game on the 3DS (Next Level Games would prove all the haters and "he's boring" people wrong). Giving him a unique moveset and the iconic "Too Bad, Waluigi Time!" taunt will do a lot for him.

Waluigi isn't boring or anything... he could be a fun character, he just doesn't deserve to be in the game. I can think of 10 Mario characters more deserving than he and Geno.

It definitely looks like a great blend of Brawl and Melee speed wise, which sounds perfect to me.

What makes a character more deserving anyways?

How highly requested he is? How important he is to the story of the Mario games? The amount of games he's been in?

He is a terrible, terrible character, amongst the worst characters not only Nintendo but the entire gaming industry had ever created. More thought went into creating and developing Bald Space Marine #187 than into Waluigi throughout his miserable 15 years of existence.

I would main him the instant I got the game, he is like power glove.

Yep. I have nothing against Waluigi as a character, but he is presently not deserving of being playable. If he ever proves his worth and gets a game of his own (or simply appears in a mainline game), then he should absolutely be considered. As it stands, he's very low on the Mario universe totem pole.

Excellent GIF. I'm definitely hyped by the pace of the game. I hope that they wouldn't change that at last minute.

Listen to this man. He's right.

There's a lot of factors in what makes a character deserving. Level of importance in game/game series is the main thing. A main character is always the most deserving. When it comes to secondary characters, the most deserving are the ones who have important roles in popular series, like Luigi, Peach and Bowser. Waluigi isn't the main character of any game and he's not important in any of the games he's in. The only thing he has going for him is that he's a popular choice. Geno is even less deserving.

Every character in Smash Bros., with the exception of Jigglypuff and Falco, is either a major protagonist of a specific game/series, a major rival, or a focal story character. Jigglypuff got in because she was very popular in Japan at a time where there was only one Pokémon generation, and Falco got in because he was a last minute clone. Everyone else can be considered a "Nintendo all-star" (as is the original game's Japanese subtitle) to some degree. Waluigi isn't nearly significant enough.

They should just pull a Capcom and give us the option to mix and match English/Japanese voices this time around.

This thread moves so fast I completely missed this post:

Kind of off-topic but I am playing Xenoblade seriously for the first time and I just fought the monster that shared your name not 10 minutes ago.

That's not a coincidence :P

Also I think Waluigi would work really well as an oddball character every fighting game has. A character with moves that seam useless on first sight but are really useful when completely mastered. Besides having a completely bonkers personality.

It would seem to me that "Marth" is such an easy in for this version as Marth, but I'm not sakurai obviously. I'd also be 100% okay with it and want it really bad haha.

Yeah I don't understand the complaints of that it'd be impossible for Marth to be replaced, because it'd still represent the original Marth and you'd get the "Marth" fans too.

Awakening spoilers:
Also it'd be another female representative.

No. Wave-dashing adds options and is cool. L-canceling is an artificial barrier to high level play; just remove the landing lag frames automatically without having to press a button. That's my personal opinion.
I'd rather have them alter the mechanic a bit and make it so there's reasons not to L-Cancel (there's a few rare situations in Melee but most of the time you'd want to).

So regular Marth, Japanese voice or English voice?

I really think that if Marth stays he'll be dubbed this time. He already has a localized game, so there's no reason to keep the Japanese voice anymore.

Ike could easily have replaced Marth if they felt like going just with "hero of the newest game", but they didn't do that. I see no reason for that atittude to change now, especially when Marth's more relevant to the series in general again than he was when Brawl was released. Awakening certainly will playable character representation in one way or another, I just don't see them kicking out Marth to do it. Ike seems like a much more obvious target.

It wouldn't represent the original Marth because you would be removing the original Marth. That's not hard to understand.

Fine fine, I guess that's fair enough since the roster only has so many spots and variety is the spice of life.
I'm still salty about the fact he won't make it in because he's not important....yet

Time to spam Next Level with email to pitch Nintendo with an idea for a Waluigi game....

One more realistic wish is to see Phoenix Wright in as an exclusive assist trophy for the 3DS game. Capcom may neglect their Western customers for the franchise but they let Sakurai use Megaman so it's possible....

There are a lot of undeserving characters who could work, but that doesn't change the fact that they're undeserving. I used to want Soren from Fire Emblem, Koopa Troopa and Blaziken to be in Brawl. They'd all make fun characters, but I recognize that none of them deserved to be in the game.

"Deserving" is a lot of nonsense. SSB is not a popularity contest, it is not impacted by sales numbers, or story, or "relevance". If Sakurai feels it would be fun to include Waluigi, he can do anything he wants on his lunch break and he will.

Part of me agrees with this. But part of me also feels that being in Smash may lead to him being more important. Being in smash could flesh out his identity, which includes his personality, his abilities, and could be the factor that'll allow him to star in his own (awesomely terrible xD) game.

Marth is the face of Fire Emblem. He starred in the first Fire Emblem game, the most important Fire Emblem game (FE3), remakes of both of those games, and has already appeared in two Smash Bros. installments. To suggest replacing him with a one-off female cosplayer as sufficient absolutely boggles my mind.

You're arguing my point for me dude. Deserving has nothing to do with popularity. Waluigi and Geno are poplular... but they're not deserving.

Mr. Game & Watch got in because the Game & Watch games were an important part of Nintendo's history. ROB got in for the same reason. Wii Fit Trainer got in because Wii Fit is one of the best selling games of all-time. Wolf got in because he's the main rival of Star Fox. Captain Falcon gt in because he's the representative of F-Zero. Mega Man and Sonic got in because they're the mascots of their respective companies. Waluigi is NOT important in any kind of way, the only thing he goes on is popularity.

That is the issue, he doesn't have an identity. He is just bad guy luigi. Wario became his own person, daisy even got this tomb boy thing going. Waluigi is just bad luigi, his name is very apt.

I'm quite aware of Marth's history, thanks, I just think it's a possibility with Awakening's huge popularity but it's not something I'd personally want.

Ideally I'd want 4 FE reps (Ike in RD gear/Chrom/Marth with a Awakening Marth alt, then someone who can bring a new playstyle like Avatar, Lyn, Hector, Sigurd, etc.), but we'll see.

Even if its pushing it.. Bowser Jr. and Waluigi for SSB4!
I can get behind Bowser Jr. Back when Brawl was being planned, his only appearance was in Sunshine, but he's since had major roles in the New Super Mario Bros. games (and slightly less major roles in the Galaxy games). He has to be on Sakurai's radar, at least.
