They're adding WW Ganondorf right

ibl06MRiKME8gs.jpg

It'd be a great way to re-introduce a Ganondorf with a moveset that isn't a clone of Captain Falcon's, since his WW look is really different from his OoT and TP designs, so I'd love that change. Plus, WW 'dorf would be on the general public's mind due to WWHD's release later this year.

By the way, I only played WW on my cousin's GC a long time ago, so I don't remember how the final battle went. Did Ganondorf cast magic there?

Do we have a list of characters who are likely to get the boot? I wouldn't be surprised if Lucas, ROB, and Wolf were replaced in SSBU.

The only characters who seem truly likely would be Toon Link and Ganondorf, based only on the fact that they were the only "true" clones remaining in Brawl.

Lucas and Wolf are very loose clones. They only shared special attacks with their prime characters, and the properties on all of them were very dissimilar anyway. Their standard attacks were completely different and they had a lot of very different properties in terms of speed and recovery.

I think Snake and Roy (swapped for Chrom) are two that have a good possibility of not returning.

EDIT: I mean Ike, not Roy.

Oh, is that your interpretation of Sakurai's intent? I know he mentioned way back that he wants the cast to be more unique, but that doesn't mean he won't remove characters. The game could use with some serious pruning. It'd also have the benefit of opening up more slots to newcomers instead of bloating the cast.

Those two seem like very plausible choices for omission. Chrom is almost certainly going to replace Ike, and I've always felt that Bayonetta would be an interesting odd ball character to replace Snake.

He has unique standard attacks and I'd personally call his Down special unique as opposed to borrowed from Fox, but you could lump him in with Wolf for the same reason I guess.

I just interpreted it as "I don't want to prioritize any characters over any other, because I know someone prefers them over any other characters." Mentioning things about the technical aspects of characters just made it sound like he was talking about the minor differences between clones rather than playstyle in general. We'll know soon enough, but I really don't think we're going to see many roster removals.

People, please. Please please please PLEASE stop thinking with "slots".
There's no "slots" in a fighting game beyond the guaranteed roster spots for characters that won't go anywhere (i.e. in Smash's case, that would be names like Mario, Link, or Samus).

Do you really think that Sakurai and his devs get together in a meeting and Sakurai says "Okay, team, we are going to make exactly 37 characters!"?

This isn't how a fighting game roster is developed. If anything, they have a certain estimate to how many characters they can make with the time and resources they have, and go from there to include characters they feel are fun or unique in gameplay.

The whole "slot" thing should already have been dropped the moment Sakurai said that he decided to beef up the roster with clones in Melee. If they wouldn't have made the game with 25 characters but 6 clones, they just would've shipped it with 19 characters and no clones.

Well, he was de-clonified from Melee to Brawl, but most of his moveset still is the same as Fox's or heavily resembles it. Unlike Wolf, whose entire A-moveset is different from Fox (or Falco for that matter).

Anybody who believes Wolf and Lucas are "clones" have probably never tried playing them long enough. The only guilty characters here are Toon Link, Falco and Ganondorf. Ganondorf sure as heck isn't going anywhere, and I doubt Falco will. The anti-R.O.B attitude I will never understand.

The guest characters are by their very nature expendable, so I'd expect them to be on the chopping block, even though I ultimately think Sonic will stay. Sadly I think Toon Link is a goner.

The man has gone on record saying he doesn't like large rosters. It's more likely we're going to see a good number of characters removed, with the remaining ones (and new characters) tweaked until they're distinct gameplay experiences. There's also the issue of popularity and promotional/marketing potential, which will certainly influence which cast members are retained.

Source?

I remember 2 interviews with him regarding roster size, one a long time ago where he said that he doesn't want to just increase the roster size and be done with it for a Smash 4, but rather add other stuff.
And in a recent interview he said that making characters that are more than one character in one are difficult - I am not sure if he said anything directly related to roster size in that interview, but it was assumed he was talking about that as well.

I do not remember ANY place where he literally said that he doesn't like large rosters.

Bingo. Wolf and Lucas will only be cut if they feel the need to trim the cast for balancing purposes.

Ganondorf isn't going anywhere yeah, let's just hope they change up his moveset though to better reflect the games.

That's the interview I'm referencing. People expecting a roster 50 deep are going to be sorely disappointed.

How? He said he didn't want to beef the roster and call it a day. Nowhere does that say he can't or won't but that a sequel needs more than just that. He didn't say it had to be either/or. Like I said, if he was really concerned about the roster he wouldn't be stating he wants to include as many characters as possible.

People would hate me but...

Cut
The clones
Ice Climbers (If it´s going to be too difficult with the new system put them as assist trophies)
Lucario for Newto (Sorry!)
Lucas (or maybe revamp him up, but since Earthbound is coming to the Virtual console I don´t know)

So... yeah.... my humble opinion.

Seriously. Reading comprehension people (or an awkward translation?)...

I don't understand the logic of a younger Link being cut when he's already been in 2 games, much like Falco. Young Link or Toon Link is here to stay. The younger versions of Link are pretty damn popular, and it's ridiculous seeing how many people want them gone. I'm all for the older Link not being crap though.

I really really want Daisy as a character in SSB4.

This series always takes characters who previously didn't have much, well, character... and gave them more gravitas without depending on other characters in their series.

She should have a completely unexpected moveset only because nobody knows SHIT about her. I want her to be the anti-Peach... just some badass bitch who happened to become a princess or something. She's such a blank slate that he can do whatever he wants with that character and people would believe it.

Daisy deserves a spot on the roster. WHO CAN RESIST HER ROUSING COMPLEXITY

Your avatar reminds me of Carmen Sandiego, and as such I am so enthralled that I agree.

It does make sense.

People aren't allowed to say "WTF, she can't do that" if we don't actually know what she can do. Maybe that's why I like Wii Fit Trainer so much (or maybe it's the hips).

In order of likeliness:

7. ROB- Too unique to leave so it is doubtful.
6. Lucario- To be replaced by another Pokemon
5. Wolf- Just dull and no one is asking for his return.
4. Toon Link- Played out and no sense in having two Links.
3. Lucas- For another Earthbound character.
2. Ike- For another FE character.
1. Snake- Just doesn't belong.

How doesn't Snake belong?

What?

6 pokemon would just get another spot
5 The reason wolf got in was fan requests, and he moves set is different than fox and falco.
4 there were two links in melee
3 why?
2 makes sense
1 what are you talking about.

Seriously what are you even talking about.

Because he is primarily thought of on Sony consoles.

That means squat. And by whom? When I think of snake I think of Metal Gear Solid, not the platform the games are.

He was already in brawl, he fits the universe. If you don't think he doesn't fit that's a different story, but obviously a lot of people disagree.

6. Likely
5. Yeah I think he stays but he has to be the dullest nonclone in Brawl.
4. It was dumb then too.
3. See last couple pages in this thread.
1. See above.

I think youre misunderstanding the post. I dont think there will be many cuts, if any, but those 8 would be on the chopping block if so.

Lucas being cut for another Earthbound character makes no damn sense. He's the main character of Mother 3 and Ness is the main character of Mother 2. They even changed the series victory theme to represent them both better. What is wrong with you people?
