Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

Big Boss is lead to believe the horn is shrapnel from the attack that sent him into a coma, but it's secretly a mind control and tracking device implanted by Kaz and Ocelot.

Maybe Snake is a body modification pioneer? The first to have something implanted just to look cool.

he confirms that the year 1984 is selected for two reasons. One is that MGS3->PW->MGSV have 10 year breaks between each game (1964->1974->1984)
Hahaha! Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops is crying in the corner once again.

When does that first screenshot take place? Before or after?
That's when they announce he's in a coma, so before.
And when he wakes up, the piece of shrapnel is there.
So either he somehow got it while hospitalized (not necessarily as ridiculous as it sounds, as one has to wonder why Punished Snake's face would be bandaged after nine years of coma), or it's not the same guy.
I'm betting on Punished Snake not being the same guy, but rather a decoy fashioned after Big Boss. Most probably the third man Kaz was talking about.

Big Boss will turn into Satan.

There's no other possible explanation and Kojima is sufficiently fucked up to do such a thing.

what if the sorrow implants the bosses mind into the piece of shrapnel, which is lodged in big bosses head. then quite literally, the boss is always within the mind of big boss.

So you're serious. ^^;

I'm still sticking with my earlier speculation: the horn doesn't actually exist. It was a piece of shrapnel removed from BB's forehead, representing the moment he turned against the ideals he once fought for. Only the player can see the horn.

Does this mean that Big Boss will start singing like the Boss Robots?

but there can also be user-generated challenges in the single player game. For example, if a player is travelling from point A to point B on the map during a mission and he's on a horse, if he feels like it he can challenge other players via social networking services to a race to make it more interesting. Players who are unable to participate in the race at that specific time can still serve as spectators to that race via their tablets/smartphones.

God dammit. Generating your own challenges was mentioned earlier and I thought that meant something akin to a level editor so we could get extra offline missions like in Integral or Substance. But what we get is Need for Speed Rivals.

Hype down to average levels again. Or even below average.

I'd say the xrays throughout the trailer back up the idea that the shrapnel is really there.

Being forced to go through the entire game with a stupid piece of shrapnel stuck in Big Boss's head is actually reason enough for me not to purchase it.

It looks like one of the comedy accessories you'd see in a created character for some 3D fighting game.

Oh wow, way to overreact.

So even if this ended up being the best game in the world(not saying it will), you won't buy it because of a teeny horn?

Should rearrange your priorities.

Yikes

I remember when video games used to be about fun and not a super serious thing in people's lives where a small detail like a horn would ruin the entire experience for someone.

Just watched this now, Jesus... why haven't I been paying more attention to this. MGS4 was my favorite game of all time at the time I played it, how did I ignore this game all week?

Haven't seen the 4Gamer interview yet, I'll read it now. Oh, and he confirms that the year 1984 is selected for two reasons. One is that MGS3->PW->MGSV have 10 year breaks between each game (1964->1974->1984), but it is also a direct reference to the Orwell novel of the same name. There will be story themes connected to that as well.

The birth of the Patriot AI, I suspect.

Aye. I don't understand that reaction either, but to each their own. I think it looks pretty cool! :)

It looks freaking stupid.

Might as well have a big purple dildo on there. At least Big Boss could use it to clonk people over the head when he sneaks up behind them.

Besides, if this turns out to be successful, it means all future games are going to have callbacks to "the horn". The eye-patches are overused as it is.

EDIT: Dammit. Keep mixing Big Boss & Snake for some reason.

Metal Gear Solid is full of stupid things. It's what makes it endearing.

That's a pretty poor analogy, man. Mistaking some jagged shrapnel and a big purple dildo would be very painful. Yowza! Also, "eye-patches" and "overused" can only be in the same sentence if connected by "aren't" and ended with "enough". WHY ARE YOU DEAD INSIDE? :P

"Yes, yes, split it wide open!"

You'll only miss it when it's gone.

There is just something about the MGS series that pulls me in hardcore. I got chills watching this trailer though the lack of Hayter felt a little off to me, but i can see they are really doing something different with the series and i guess Hideo used that as an excuse to make Big Boss sound different (maybe he always wanted him to be different?).

So excited for this game. I assume its not a PS4 launch title though right?

Edit: Yeah was watching that 60FPS video before, looks really nice would be great if they can pull off that detail and it maintains 60fps.

The horn is representative of the "demon" that snake has become,
thirsty for revengeance.

I like it.

I'm lieing

Fixed :P On topic, I love the speculation about MGS games, replaying MGS1 on Vita now, so good.

I like the theory that we're not actually playing Big Boss but I think that's a bit out there, even for Kojima.

Watching the trailer again, did Big Boss just kill all those african kids at the end? :P They recoil in terror before the trailer shows BB blasting away. Seems like he was choking Chico in the cell too. WTF is going on in this game?

Could be a case of suggestive editing. I'll never believe a Kojima trailer again after MGS2. :)

Someone enters the room behind Snake, kids see him, blah blah blah shoot shoot.

The stuff happening to Paz is pretty damn gruesome, too, even if she's not actually a child.

Where can I go to get the ENTIRE backstory of everything leading up to MGS V?

On youtube you can watch all the cutscenes for MGS3, Portable Ops, and Peace Walker, which are the 3 games leading up to MGSV chronologically.

If you watch an hour or two a day you can finish in a few days no sweat.

Sneaky editing. I doubt he actually shoots the kids.
