Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

I just think, from a logical perspective, Palutena is pretty low on the totem pole as far as viable playable characters go. Sakurai will do what Sakurai do, but she's one degree away from being a disembodied voice. To embody her and have her actively jumping around and whatnot seems Farfetch'd.

Have you finished Kid Icarus Uprising?
Palutena is a boss battle.
That makes her much more active than Sheik.

I was actually JUST about to bring this up, as I remembered that part of the game, especially since I finally got around to beating it just a few days ago. Then again,
it's Psudo-Palutena, so it's not TECHNICALLY her,
but it could still work.

There's the
true fight against Palutena during the chaos bug subplot
.

You also fight the real Palutena in Chapter 20 when she's being possessed by the Chaos Kin.

So lets play a game.

They dropped 5 characters from Melee:

-Dr. Mario
-Mewtwo
-Pichu
-Young Link (Essentially became Toon Link)
-Roy

If you had to drop 5 characters from Brawl, who would they be? For me, in order of most likely to least likely:

- Lucario
- Pokemon Trainer (2 Pokemon characters, like in Melee. Lucario always felt like a flavor of the month choice for Brawl, I can see these two being replaced by Mewtwo and another Pokemon character)
- Ike (They dropped Roy last time, maybe they'll drop Ike this time around.)
- Solid Snake (Unfortunately, I feel like Megaman may be taking Snake's spot as a Third Party character. It feels like Snake may have been a one time thing. I SO hope I'm wrong on this. Sonic will be back for sure.)
- Lucas (Easily the least likely to go of the five. Just... more likely than anyone else imo)

This list has nothing to do with my personal preferences. Snake was, if not my favorite, a top 3 character in Brawl for me. But looking at these characters' current relevance with Nintendo, compared alongside to the rest of the Brawl roster, I can see these five going, unfortunately.

I really hope he just doesn't drop any characters at all. I hated that about Brawl, as clone-like and low tier some of those dropped characters were. Maybe that whole article about Sakurai feeling like he wants to kill himself when it comes to choosing/removing characters for Smash pushes him to just say fuck it and include everyone from Melee/Brawl.

Soo...no Dojo this time? Doesn't bother me, I feel it's better to keeps things a secret to wow us with as the game gets closer release.

Have you finished Kid Icarus Uprising?

Yeah, multiple times. But I'd still say Hades would be added before Palutena. And without a new Kid Icarus game in sight, (Sakurai himself said he wouldn't be making it) why include either of them? Kid Icarus is one of my absolute favorite Nintendo franchises (first Game Boy game I ever played), but Palutena was perfect as a Final Smash background character. That made so much sense, and I'd be thrilled to see her return in that role, maybe with some various dialogue since so much of Uprising's character was in the dialogue. But I just can't bring myself to think she'll be playable.

Prove me wrong, Sakurai. I won't complain, I'll just be surprised.

I would drop:
-Falco
-Lucas
-Toon-Link
-Ganondorf (for him to be replaced by a new, improved Ganon)
-Shiek (leaving Zelda on the roster)

Alternative picks include Wolf and Zero Suit Samus.

@Anth0ny:

- Lucario (Indeed, he's Mewtwo's replacemente and Mewtwo got replaced)
- Toon Link (It'd be weird otherwise since he's part of the background in one stage now)
- Snake (He was a "for the lulz" addition because Sakurai and Kojima are friends)
- Sonic (I recall Sakurai mentioning his addition like a thing of the past recently, I'm not sure he's coming back)
- Lucas? (I'm not sure since his character model isn't very different from Ness', which means less work for a new character)

I know it's dumb to think about this right now but I feel Mega Man is not coming back for Smash Bros. 5 :P

So lets play a game.

I'm going to tell you who I'd add for each removal. Makes your game more interesting.

5. Lucario ---> New Mewtwo
4. Ike ---> Chrom
3. Marth ---> "Marth"
2. Snake ---> Monster Hunter
1. Wolf ---> Geno

Got some wildcards in there, but that's what we're all about 'round these parts.

Yeah, forgot about that
Chaos Kin battle, as I mainly remember the more annoying one where he runs around the battle field while Dark Pit helps you out
, but still a good point, as it provides extra proof.

Soo...no Dojo this time? Doesn't bother me, I feel it's better to keeps things a secret to wow us with as the game gets closer release.
Yeah, as neat as the Dojo was, especially since I'd check it every morning before going to school & then tell my friends what the update was, it really took most of the surprise out of discovering what the game had. And some weeks, you could tell they had trouble finding something to use as an update. I think I'd be fine with one big update a month than seeing a character announced then having to wait a couple of weeks for footage of said character in action.

I admit, I'm gonna miss the denim overalls on Mario. That was one of my favorite parts about Melee when first seeing that game...

Lucas (In favor of Paula. I want to have a non-striped shirt playable character and a new female rep)

Lucario (Unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Should be replaced by either a brand new or classic Pokemon)

Ike (See Lucario)

ROB (Doesn't capture the spirit of what ROB is all about in any way. Either get rid of him or retool him to better resemble the true Robotic Operating Buddy)

Toon Link (in favor of a true 4th Zelda character.)

Honorable Melee mentions:
Falco (I don't understand why people think Wolf should go over Falco. Wolf has a lot more to offer. Falco doesn't deserve to be in the game any more than Slippy or Peppy do. I think all 3 should be part of Fox's Final Smash as the Star Fox Team)

Sheik (I always felt that Sheik has been holding Zelda back. There's no reason Zelda needs a transformation. Sheik is not an important character at all. Zelda should be independent.)

Soo...no Dojo this time? Doesn't bother me, I feel it's better to keeps things a secret to wow us with as the game gets closer release.

Brawl was revealed at E3 2006.
The second trailer, ie. the next time we got any Smash info, was later that year (Tokyo Game Show, I think?)
Brawl's Dojo's first daily update was in May 2007.
It was originally scheduled for a December 07 release, but ended up being released early 2008.

Odds are the SSB4s are aiming for Late 2014 releases. If we did get another daily updated Dojo, we probably would be looking at a similar timeframe for it to start. I'd lob it at about E3 2014.

People forget that we didn't get a whole heap of info straight away. Its also why I suspect people expecting new Smash news with every direct are gonna be disappointed.

And I hope people understand that Lucario is actually popular in Pokémon as well, as much as they think he's gonna go...

Lucario's the face of a generation for kids playing Pokemon now. he's probably not going anywhere. It's also why we're probably going to see Mewtwo returning, with his new forme baked into his moveset somewhere, since he's being heavily promoted for X&Y.

I never followed Dojo as I didn't have reliable internet back then. Part of me regretted missing out on the fun. Another part of me is happy when I finally got play Brawl, there were more surprises. If they had Dojo again, I'd follow it though, I'm too weak-willed to pass it up this time around, even if I spoil all the characters for myself.

If I had to cut 5 characters, they'd be:
Toon Link
Wolf
Lucario
Jigglypuff
Snake -I don't think Brawl's third party characters are returning :(

1) Snake - Willing to bet money that he won't make it back for SSB4.
2) R.O.B. - Brawl's nostalgia character will either get switched out for another old-school weirdo or, if Sakurai decides to step things up, will return along with Mr. Game & Watch.
3) Lucario - Will most likely get replaced by another novelty Pokemon inclusion.
4) Toon Link - This is a bit hazy... Toon Link isn't exactly outdated given his presence on the DS and the Wind Waker re-release... however I just think the concept of having two Links is kind of stupid. Maybe they'll substitute him for another Zelda character (Midna? Zant? Impa? Tingle?) or keep him and add another character or two. I think as large as the Zelda universe is they can easily add another slot or two to the roster.
5) Pokemon Trainer - As I said, I think they'll keep the trainer himself but they'll switch out the starters. Perhaps giving you a choice of gen starters or maybe will just move one gen up (to Totodile, Cyndaquil, etc.).

I think Lucas and Ness are going to be staples for a while. I think Ike is more likely to stay so that Sakurai can add another character (like Lin) since I think Fire Emblem finally deserves a third slot on the roster.

5 characters who are likely to be removed?

-Snake - Not due to relevancy, he was never really important, but as a third party character, negotiations could always fall through, especially with Konami's increased distance from Nintendo these days (no Hundson, no ProEvo, etc)

-Falco - Wolf had more unique assets built into his character, and the only reason Star Fox had so many characters in Brawl was due to its popularity in Melee. Star Fox characters weren't that popular in Brawl and the series is otherwise almost dead.

-Lucas - Ness has worldwide appeal, and, if characters are getting cut, I think he'd go before Toon Link, Ganondorf or a second Star Fox character.

-Ike - Replaced by an Awakening representative.

-ROB - I think he could be dropped for the same reason as Mewtwo - in spite of being completely unique, he just wasn't very popular. So, if Sakurai ends up having to cut characters to finish the line up again, he'll go. Also, his moveset seemed mostly based on SSE, rather than ROB itself, so he might even have been intended to be a one shot.

Lucario is a classic pokemon now. And one of the most popular. Perspective man.

That is my only critcism.

My list.

Rob.

I cant really get behind getting rid of anyone else.

5 characters to drop:

1. Ike -- probably will be replaced by another FE character, theoretically from Awakening due to its success

2. Wario -- wishful thinking on my part. I really dislike Wario. I'd rather have Waluigi, who isn't a fart type pokemon or whatever.

3. Wolf -- Star Fox is dead, we don't need 3 Star Fox playables

4. R.O.B. -- always seemed like a one-off to me

5. Young Link -- just choose some and fold abilities into Link to get a hybrid, and call it done

1. Snake

2. Ike - replaced with Chrom

3. Wolf - they don't need three reps from Star Fox and Falco is a veteran now, so I sadly can't see him getting replaced.

4. Lucario - replaced with Mewtwo

5. Toon Link - replaced with a new Link alt., or at least another Zelda character

Why would people rather get rid of Wolf than Falco? Wolf has a more original moveset and he's the leader of Star Fox's rival team. Falco is a sidekick just like Slippy.

I'll just say that I've never found fart jokes funny.

Here's an idea of how to retool Wario to make him fun for me: Make a special move coin-based. Like, he has a sack of money that gets bigger when he fills it with coins. Whenever he hits an enemy, coins come flying out. His throw is basically to shake money out of the enemy character. By collecting coins, Wario's next sack attack is more powerful. When he gets hit, though, he loses coins from the sack.

If Waluigi isn't an option, then also give Wario some prank-based abilities. For instance, creating fake items that backfire onto the user -- imagine a fireflower having appeared, and when you use it, you find out that the fireflower spits fire into your own face. Wario laughs. Etc.

.... but since they won't do that and they'll almost certainly keep his fart-based nature, I'd rather just cut him ;) But they won't. so chill, guys!

Why do all these people want Lucas gone? You people should be ashamed of yourselves. We all know Lucas is better then Ness.
The only reason I want Lucas gone is because I want Earthbound's second rep to be someone completely different. One main character (Ness/Lucas) and one other character (Paula/Kumatora). Earthbound is the most well known of the two games and Ness is one of the original 12, so Ness and Paula is my ideal Earthbound duo.

I'll just say that I've never found fart jokes funny.
A fart joke is a joke made about farts... Wario has a fart ATTACK. Two completely different things. The move isn't meant for people to laugh at every time it's done.

Man it sucks knowing that Ike is gone. Like, I understand it and I'm ultimately cool, but man, Ike is my favorite FE character.

Is this how Roy fans felt? I think we can now share the pain.

I don't want it to happen, it's just more likely. Being in two games most likely cements your spot in the lineup. Hopefully Sakurai changes his moveset.

Cut: Falco
Jigglypuff
ROB
Toon Link
Snake

Come on man; we don't know if he's out yet. You gotta believe. =P

Why do all these people want Lucas gone? You people should be ashamed of yourselves. We all know Lucas is better then Ness.

Yeah, but the point is that Ness is the much more beloved character, and if they'd just given Ness Lucas' up smash and implemented the PK thunder on him the way they did Lucas, there'd never have been a need for Lucas in the first place. I say they do that and replace Lucas with Paula or Poo.

im surprised that people want lucario cut so much

I;m guessing its

" he was flavor of the month"

" no actually he is one the most popular pokemon period, and they may keep him and add another spot "

" my Perceptions of the Pokemon franchise,"

I have the foggiest the ins and outs about the LOZ franchise, So if I suggest someone be cut, I wouldnt know how silly I sounded either
