Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Replacing Lucas with Paula seems silly when Ness and Lucas already have most of Paula's potential moveset.

Agreed; Jeff would be a more interesting character, I think (though I doubt he'll make it in, but with the rerelease of Earthbound on the Virtual Console, who knows...).

I don't think Lucas can be cut. The argument that he's "flavor of the month" fall flat when you consider that no new flavors came after him.

Edit:

Man it sucks knowing that Ike is gone. Like, I understand it and I'm ultimately cool, but man, Ike is my favorite FE character.

Is this how Roy fans felt? I think we can now share the pain.

I don't think Roy is anyone's favorite lord.

Not really, you slightly retool Ness, or differentiate the way they use the moves. Lucas' PK Freeze was terribly implemented. It could be something very useful for Paula. Not to mention that Ness hasn't been completely accurate from the start move-wise, so why would it matter if they indulge some with Paula, especially with Lucas out of the picture? Ness is more physical anyway.

Yeah, I'm more than a little doubtful that he's going anywhere, I just really can't see Paula being welcomed into open arms if we're axing Lucas for no reason other than to have her adopt his moveset.

It seems silly because.

hey lets replace the main character in the last installment of our franchise with the side character in the installment before it.

What?

So let's make/dream up some new items for the new SSB =P, I'll go first:

Wii Balance Board
When thrown/stood on the character on the balnce board will have a chance of powerboost/depowering or no boost to the characters strength. They will show a elated or depression expression upon the status change.

FYI this is a joke post XP

Roy's popularity primarily comes from his Melee appearance. Marth may be higher on the tier list but Roy has "t3h ph1r3."

Lucas would be axed because he's Ness the way Ness should have been implemented. All Ness needed was an up smash that was useful and a less useless way to get back to the stage, and they went and brought in Lucas? Fix Ness, dump or change Lucas, and/or bring in another Earthbound character. I don't even care much who it is.

Brawl was revealed at E3 2006.
The second trailer, ie. the next time we got any Smash info, was later that year (Tokyo Game Show, I think?)
Brawl's Dojo's first daily update was in May 2007.
It was originally scheduled for a December 07 release, but ended up being released early 2008.

Odds are the SSB4s are aiming for Late 2014 releases. If we did get another daily updated Dojo, we probably would be looking at a similar timeframe for it to start. I'd lob it at about E3 2014.

People forget that we didn't get a whole heap of info straight away. Its also why I suspect people expecting new Smash news with every direct are gonna be disappointed.

A LATE 2014, EARLY 2015 RELEASE?

And I was legitimately hoping for a Q1/Q2 2014 release date.

Riki.

Once he appears from the Capsule that was thrown, all hell breaks loose as everyone begs for mercy from the Heropon's infinite wrath.

Ness needs a new up and down smash...really bad. Charging them doesn't even add knockback and damage in brawl.

What? Yo-yo is fantastic. Stops pretty much anyone coming at you with a melee attack. It's probably not very useful in competition, but I love it as a defensive option.

Why would you dump lucas, you arent giving a good reason. It just seems you do not like lucas.

I like Akuma. but they should just get rid of akuma and give Ryu akuma's moves.

1. Snake

2. Ike - replaced with Chrom

3. Wolf - they don't need three reps from Star Fox and Falco is a veteran now, so I sadly can't see him getting replaced.

4. Lucario - replaced with Mewtwo

5. Toon Link - replaced with a new Link alt., or at least another Zelda character

Falco instead of Wolf and that's pretty much it.

If I had to choose 5 characters that have a chance of getting the boot I'd go with Ike, Lucario, Jigglypuff, Snake and Sonic.

Ike: To be replaced by Chrom or Lucina.

Lucario: I don't see Pokemon Trainer getting the cut or being changed in regards to Pokemon. He was a starter character in Brawl and he was on the cover for the game. I can't deny Lucario's popularity, but since he's had his shot it's possible a 5th gen like Zoroark (as much as I dislike it) or Genesect can take its place...

Jigglypuff: I know, I know. One of the sacred 12. And with a new type Jigglypuff may have something new to offer. But I think Jigglypuff and Lucario are at the mercy of the Pokemon Company and how many Pokemon reps Sakurai thinks there should be.

Sonic and Snake: I know. Nintendo and Sega are buddy buddy, but with Sakurai's comments about not having as many third party characters this time around, I can see Snake and Sonic staying Brawl exclusive. Makes that game much more special.

This is just who I would cut. I wouldn't anyone to be cut really, except Snake. People who want to get rid of original move sets like R.O.B, or characters like Toon Link and Lucas are just sad.

I don't even care if Lucas stays or not. But the priority should have been to fix the flaws of Ness rather than give them to a new character. Now, all they need to do is fix that. Whether Lucas is retooled and stays after, I don't even care.

By the way, I played a lot of Lucas. He was one of my mains. But the fact is that they made him into what Ness was could have been rather than fix Ness.

You're kidding, right? Lucas's Upsmash is awful. Ness's is's mediocre, but you can actually use for spacing. Ness is widely considered the better character, and that's mainly due to how terrible Lucas's moves are.

---

Ahem rant aside, its unlikely that Sakurai would axe Lucas and implement a new PSI mother character, instead of updating or maybe even revamping Lucas. Why would anyone replace one of the leads of franchise with a side character(from that very same franchise)? A side character who isn't even more popular than the any of main characters, mind you.

It would be the equivalent of replacing Roy in Brawl with... Edward from FE10. It's too implausible.

I hope if Chrom replaces Ike he doesn't have the same movesets cause it's not like Chrom's holding the Ragnell... And the Ragnell's the reason Ike is pretty slow, I can kinda see Ike stay because of it in fact...
And any FE Awakening player can see Chrom is actually quite fast.

You dont know how fighting games work.

If a character has flaws, That is it. You deal with them and work around them.

If I absolutely had to remove five Brawl veterans...

Toon Link
Falco
Lucario
Ike
Lucas

I don't want anyone to go, though. :(

Why do all these people want Lucas gone? You people should be ashamed of yourselves. We all know Lucas is better then Ness.

Haha, sooo much no. Those moves are really excellent if used correctly. Being able to run into that forward-then-overhead yo-yo is incredible.

Just make them like they were in smash 64. Fast, weird hitbox and very damage. They were really good at keeping enemies away (those that approached from the air were stuffed by the Upsmash, and those who approached from the ground had to watch out for the Downsmash).

Pity Sakurai nerfed the move into the ground...

Replace Falco with Snake and you'd have my list; though like you I'd prefer if nobody was cut. Still, it's something inevitable; let's just hope there's not many cuts this time around.

On another note, am I alone in thinking that the Masked Man from Mother 3 would be a neat addition to the roster?

Man, all this talk about character removal is bumming me out. I would hate to see any of them go but I will deal with it. What if some Brawl "clones" were to be removed and then maybe transfer some of their properties/moves to their originator's move set?

Maybe give Ness some moves and attacks from Lucas? Everyone seems intent that Ike is probably gone which would be sad as his move set his a contrast to Marth's being a slow and powerful fighter. I really don't see how Chrom could replace Ike in that sense as Chrom should be just as fast as Marth. Though I can't see Chrom replacing Marth either.....Marth's relevance is too much for him to be replaced, yet I can't see all three of them being in. We will just have to wait and see.

Wasn't that an old article anyway? Sakurai intends to speed up Smash IV anyway (and has gone on record saying he intends to tweak characters to make them better this time, ala Bowser). He can call it a party game all he wants, I just want to see decent character balance this time.

Well, at least he didn't call it a "party game" :P Whatever that means. I still don't know what's a "party game".

A party game is a game that is designed for a group of people to sit down and have a lot of fun at through local multiplayer. More specifically, it is one that is designed to be fun for a group of people who didn't solely gather together just to play games. A good party game supports a large crowd of players, has a low barrier to entry, and is fun despite a broad range of skill among the players.

Decent examples of good party games are Bomberman, Mario Party, and Nintendoland.

That isn't to say that a party game can't have deep mechanics and room for skillful play, but competitive play generally isn't the environment the game is designed for.

So it's pretty much not a genre since it's not a gameplay-describing term. Guitar Hero is a party game, Wii Party is a party game. What a useless term, pretty much any game can be a "party game" - I've seen Tekken being a "party game".

Maybe give Ness some moves and attacks from Lucas?

Maybe, although Ness is mostly his own vehicle. I'd honestly leave most of his moves alone (besides timing and damage/knockback tweaks for balance) with the exception of his PK Thunder. Ness's, while a blast to devastate lower-level players with, keeps him from having much of any kind of recovery game. If Lucas does indeed get folded into Ness (which I doubt, but still), then I'd like Ness to get his PK Thunder. Besides that, I can't think of anything I'd like Ness to take. He really does have a solid little moveset that fits him quite well.

Sakurai said that the Dojo, Subspace Emissary, Sonic, and lack of a structured team at the start of development contributed towards Brawl's delays. He Tweeted last year that work on SSB4 was going "smoothly," so I'm optimistic about its release date.

Early, mid or late 2014 optimistic?

Yeah, I think the partnership with Namco is gonna really help them out here. But Sakurai games all seem to take a while to come out.
Late 2014 at the earliest I think.
