Fighting Games Weekly | June 17-23 | Nintendoes what Capcan't

The Marvel 4 surprise will be that they took out all the Marvel characters and replace them with more Capcom characters.

I would be 100% OK with this... especially since financially and logistically it makes more sense for Capcom. No need to fly across the god damn country to double check which finger motions of Dr Strange they should put in the game or not.

Plus more chance for Nero and Gene making into the game.

Hell yeah, and PLEASE make ONE universal fighting mechanic for all characters. Not something like that fighting jam shit. Hell, I would be okay with a groove system that applies to ALL characters.

Oh god, I don't want to get started to theory mode about this hypothetical game.

Would people actually play a Capcom Allstars game like they do Marvel 3? 'cause I'm kinda under the impression that the only reason people have played Marvel 3 so much is because it has "Marvel" in the title.

It has to be 3v3 assist based combat though.

Here is why people play Versus games:

*Character fan service with a ton of characters to choose from (which a Capcom All Stars game will have provided they choose correctly)
*Flashy and over the top action at a fast speed
*Assist based combat, strategy put into team construction/synergy

All of this can be provided with a Capcom All Star game. It would be like TVC only with a faster engine, more characters, no licensing problems and on systems people actually play fighting games.

A double entendre.

They are practically guaranteed in that scenario.

It gets people in, but it's all about the gameplay. I don't know how you can think otherwise, because there are a ton of games with "Marvel" in the title that no one cares about in the long-term. There are even other fighting games with that word in the title. Marvel vs. Capcom is 75% about the gameplay, and 25% about the fan service.

Hell, as a fan service game, MvC3 is pretty shitty. Wolverine and Storm don't even say anything to each other pre-battle, Dormammu has incoherent quotes against Dr. Strange ("You are nothing to me." - "The Dread Dormammu has defeated his greatest foe!" - okay Dormammu), characters like Hsien-ko have their movesets removed, Megaman is not in the game, Thor doesn't throw his hammer, Tony Stark can fly straight, blahblahblah. Several characters play nothing like they should for fans of those characters. The game is a huge disappointment in fan service beyond the actual inclusion of the characters people want to play.

I guarantee you that if you give Magneto's moveset to Jedah in a modified form, everyone will be just as hype about what happens. Fan service only moves the initial set of copies. It's the gameplay that keeps the game afloat. That's why SFxT sank so hard.

Stop getting me hype for non-existent fighting games guys.
BRB updating my Nina moveset to mail off to Capcom.

MvC3 is a grand accomplishment in so many ways. Only SF4 is more impressive when it comes to any fighting game this generation. I would say MK9 is the next most impressive, and then KoFXIII (both those two revitalized and expanded scene and exposure). SF4 revitalized a genre and MvC3 managed to improve on it's predecessor in pretty much every single way bar TACs.

and xfactor

and xfactor
X-Factor is fine. Fits into updating it for a new era of players and percentages aren't stupid in UMvC3. Better player still wins every single time. I have no sympathy for players who use an in-game resource more idiotically than their opponent and complain about it when they lose. X-Factor is great because it exposes people who panic too. Allows for great flexibility in defensive and offensive use too.

There are a ton of Marvel games that nobody cares about, but only 1 is a legendary game on the competitive scene. Marvel 2.

Maybe an All Stars game would be played as much or more than Marvel 3, but a series having that history with the community is a pretty big deal.

Concept is fine, execution still needs tuning. (please no more XF1 damage boost.)
XF1 damage boost is the counter for front-heavy teams. For example, if I'm running my main team (Firebrand/Dormammu/Shuma-Gorath), and my opponent is running Morrigan/Vergil/Dr. Doom, I will use XF1 100% of the time to kill Morrigan. Why? Because I can unblockable Vergil since he has no air mobility, and then I can tag Dormammu in because Dr. Doom hasn't a chance in the world against him. It's an important strategic element to the game.

Okay, but why is Marvel 2 a legendary competitive game? Do people say "ooooooh, he picked Magneto again!", or "Oooooh, guard break!"? No one even gave a crap about Sentinel until that game came along. The gameplay makes the characters legendary.

I don't disagree that CAS would have to swim upstream a bit, but there's a beautiful lake to float around in at the end of that stream.

If SFxT didn't have Street Fighter in the title, game wouldn't have gotten past day 3. Patch or no patch.

Already have my Gamecube controller to CC adapter ready to go!
I need to get one of those adapters, and a Wii U. Hopefully there is a price drop for the holiday season this year.

I'm definitely maining Megaman, Link, Ganondorf and Ike(if he comes back)

THIS IS RELEVANT TO MY INTERESTS

Svensson says next-gen Darkstalkers title is a fair fan request - currently unable to share news on that front

The Ask Capcom users brought up the idea of a new Darkstalkers title for next-gen consoles on the forums to which Capcom Senior Vice-President Christian Svensson weighed in.

Svensson: Sorry guys, no news I can share on such a front but it's a fair question/request.

If anything after how apparently Resurrection didn't sell too well I'd be surprised if we even get a DS4.

That said, I'd still want one anyway. You guys can believe in your Marvel 4 or UMvC3 patch, I'll believe
and expect too much
in this one.

X factor is a mixed bag, one more tuning to it should make it a more acceptable mechanic. Right now XF just maximizes the nuttiness in the game.

Exactly. The top tier characters became legendary because they were top tiers. Many people didn't know about Cable before MVC2. Hell Sentinel barely even qualifies as a "character" people liked him because of his game play. Magneto as well, people get hyped for Magneto because he's a fucking DBZ character in a Capcom game.

The pull of Marvel characters is definitely there, it's undeniable but its not a big factor in what keeps the game competitive and playable for a long time. MVC3 already has had 3 years of EVO behind it, that's an accomplishment in this day and age with so many fighting games competing for the EVO spots.

Logistically speaking Capcom All Stars is just a much wiser choice than Marvel 4. As online gaming, DLCs, patching etc. gets more common for fighting games Capcom can't afford to ask some guy across the globe if a certain character should be in or if the moveset matches up with what is required every time they update the game.

If Capcom came out and said:
"Marvel vs. Capcom 3 patch!"
"Darkstalkers 4!"
"Capcom All Stars!"

I don't even know what I would do with all my joy. I would be looking at trying to master 4 different fighting games out of the love for all of them.

I've still got my reservations about that after Brawl.

Thank God for PC ports instead.

Oh man, I want to be as cynical as you all can be especially since I played Brawl for 2 years and watched as numerous online communities for it died out because "netcode that makes Niitsuma look like he has a PhD in IT" as well as the design decisions that went into its core gameplay.

But FUCK man, dat ish got Megamane in it! My cool rationale is shot to hell for now. :lol

Lupinko is a cool guy, he should just outsource his clue creation to another developer.

10/10
