Fighting Games Weekly | June 17-23 | Nintendoes what Capcan't

If Capcom came out and said:
"Marvel vs. Capcom 3 patch!"
"Darkstalkers 4!"
"Capcom All Stars!"

I don't even know what I would do with all my joy. I would be looking at trying to master 4 different fighting games out of the love for all of them.
You'd be surprised how easy it can be when most of your games all have a common origin. Three out of four (if I'm guessing the fourth correctly) are versus games.
Oh man, I want to be as cynical as you all can be especially since I played Brawl for 2 years and watched as numerous online communities for it died out because "netcode that makes Niitsuma look like he has a PhD in IT" as well as the design decisions that went into its core gameplay.

But FUCK man, dat ish got Megamane in it! My cool rationale is shot to hell for now. :lol
The gaming industry makes old men out of children real fast.

Would people actually play a Capcom Allstars game like they do Marvel 3? 'cause I'm kinda under the impression that the only reason people have played Marvel 3 so much is because it has "Marvel" in the title.

I'm sure some would.

Without the Marvel license, the engine is just another anime game though. Is it possible for an anime game to sell well without the Marvel license in the current climate though?

all your good luck would be used up and you'd be hit by a truck the next day

Aside from a few Devil May Cry and Megaman characters, the Capcom side isn't why most people buy the series.

An all Capcom game could be really good, but it'll be more niche.

Oh, EVO is a week before SDCC. Hmm, they might just megaton at EVO then, with a follow up at SDCC. I thought the order was reversed.

Oh and I also forgot Skullgirls, huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge accomplishment. Probably greater than MvC4, less than SF4.

The gaming industry makes old men out of children real fast.

I kinda felt like I might have been headed in this direction, but it was really fighting games and an easing up on purchases that made me sit back and re-evaluate what I loved about the hobby and why I followed the industry in the first place. Good thing it happened in time for me to anticipate E3 and be legitimately excited for games again.

Why would anyone at SDCC care about a patch to a game 200 people bought?
Well if your gonna announce anything comic book related to sell anywhere, it's going to be SDCC. Say your putting Scarlett Witch in the game and suddenly you open up another large portion of a market you potentially appeal to.

But I do agree a UMvC3 patch makes no sense business wise to me. But then again so doesn't a SF4 patch to me. I hope the SDCC announcement is that they're done with SF4 for good and are burying it as they move on to new projects.

so did noel brown move to socal for an extended amount of time? he's been popping up in a some random tournies and whatnot down here

That would be such a bizarre announcement "It's what you've all been waiting for... we aren't touching SF4 anymore! That is all. Thank you goodbye"

Only Niitsuma had the balls to do that. Bizarre isn't even the first word that comes to mind when it happened.

Niitsuma coming to pretty much tell one entire side of the face of the Earth "lol" was like the craziest damn thing of the generation for me personally until Microsoft went in guns blazing with One-gate.

hate to say it about a fighting game, but this is steam sale material. I'm already playing your next game, NRS.
Definitely. My threshold is 5$, and even then I have so much from when I used to have steam syndrome that I probably wouldn't play it. Still have Alan Wake untouched along with about 30+ indie games.

Not a good price point, you can get a copy for like $15 on consoles. They waited too long to port to PC IMO.

One of the many reasons fighting games on pc are not doing so great, release it late as hell so no one cares and then to top it off they make the price not even worth it. When will they learn?

God, I'd love for Bison's U2 to be switched back to a double fireball motion. Felt like it hurt him so bad to not be able to do it on reaction to people.

Thoughts on the rest of the panels.

- Sp00ky panel was okay. Kinda sad to see flimsy answers to the question "how do you bring more women into the community." Sp00ky just really said a bunch of stuff that ultimately said nothing, and Valle had some good points about demographics vs. other games and stuff, but still kinda came off flimsy to me. But that's okay if there isn't an answer yet.
- Fishstix is a pretty cool guy, his insight is cool. His insight on sponsorship, RoI and injecting money into the community.
- I don't know why TuboWare was in that discussion, but he kinda ended up serving a role as the layman in the FGC, which was good.
- UltraDavid's hair got nerfed hard in the eSports panel. Will wait for v2014
- eSports panel was okay. Not much that hasn't been said already, but still a good roundup of issues. Inclusive vs. Exclusive discussion was good. Blizzard model seems intriguing.
- Testers Among Us panel was good for hearing Tom Brady's perspective on how to write a guide for a game that evolves
- Tom Brady's outro/shout outs at the end of the Testers Among Us panel were longer than the credits to AC3
