For some reason, this reminds me of Garfield Minus Garfield.

As for the graphics, I can barely tell the difference between new Smash and Brawl, but I don't mind. Brawl looks great.

Maybe a good way to get newcomers into the Smash community would be having Mario as the standard character and the rest are downloadable via DLC? You can still fight other characters online this way and it makes it simpler to get used to?

I wonder if we're gonna get some nifty use of the gamepad screen. ie. 1 vs 3. Player on the gamepad gets his own screen and controls an invisible character.

I could see a nearly perfect level editor coming to live on the gamepad - other than Off-TV gameplay, nothing else for gameplay though.

Wait, I don't understand. Why is "sales" not a good modifier for "which game has more people playing casually"?

Pretty sure the Wii U can handle 4 players at once + a gamepad. As stated previously in this thread, someone could theoretically get on the gamepad and create stage obstacles for the other four players and generally be as evil as f*ck

As I was randomly aimlessly flailing about a boxy shopping bag, it got me thinking...

Challenger Approaching??? Style Savvy's Fashionista. Wii Fit Trainer really did open my eyes to Nintendo's more casual games in regards to characters (especially females). It's probably not gonna happen, but then again... Animal Crossing Villager and Wii Fit Trainer...

And no, the above picture isn't an accurate representation since the characters have faces. My avatar:

Basic Description: Style Savvy's Fashionista (your avatar) joins the fight. Armed and dangerous and fabulous, Fashionista is a quick and nimble fighter. High fashion may mean discomfort, but for this Fashionista, discomfort is the name of her game when dealing high heeled kicks. She is equipped with an arsenal all "It" Girls require: gorgeous shoes, a handy bag, a makeup kit, and an assortment of accessories to top it all off. ***As a default, Super Smash Bros. 3DS comes equipped with a default outfit your Fashionista but if you have a Style Savvy: Trendsetters save file on your system, you can import your Profile Card's current outfit to Super Smash Bros. 3DS to play as your very own Fashionista.

How did the game end up being? I loved the demo but never felt like paying full price for it. I forgot about it but now that I cleaned up a lot of my 3DS wishlist I may finally be able to get it. :)

Edit: Lol didn't read that spoiler tag. haha but still, I would love to hear your detailed opinion, I guess I want you to convince me :p

This is an EXCELLENT idea and I can totally see it happening. :)

Also, they should really revisit the stage editor -- with the second screen on the GamePad and 3DS, it'd be easier than ever to create custom layouts. :)

Oh yes please. I'd also love to work on another Stage Studio for PC. I had a lot of fun analyzing and cracking Brawl's stage format, hah. #nerd

I spent probably 100+ hours into the game. It has the same addicting quality of Pokemon and Animal Crossing. In fact, if you're an Animal Crossing player, this game just makes sense since all you do is collect and customize. It's mostly dressing up female/male customers/yourself/models, but you can also take pictures saved to the SD Card, change hair/makeup, compete fashion contests, customize your pad, customize your boutique, and endlessly style and try to sell to customers based on taste. You can go online to sell and buy to and from other players, but the interface is slow as hell. I have to mention that there's TONS of fresh dialogue. It's crazy how RPG-like this is. If you need to, look for it for a cheaper price. But I definitely got my money's worth.

So to put it simply, if you like Animal Crossing, Style Savvy: Trendsetters should be on your radar. It's also at the quality level of Elite Beat Agents with a climbing level in sleeper hit status.

Villager's shoes are very stylish.

Screens don't do the game justice. It looks great in motion.

Wow, this sold me on the graphics. Looks fantastic in motion at 720p! Bowsers model/animatioms are so much better too.

Glad that they fixed Brawl's huge ledge-grap box, as seen at ~4:30. In Brawl, Mario would have grabbed that ledge.

Wait, I don't understand. Why is "sales" not a good modifier for "which game has more people playing casually"?
Good or not, that number doesn't mean anything.
In Millions:
Code:
Game Cube: 21.74 Melee: 7.09
Wii: 99.84 Brawl: 11.49
Sources; 1, 2, 3
More consoles sold generally means more games bought. Wii was way more popular so it's only logical to expect that Brawl would sell more. There's no evidence to suggest that if Brawl were more like Melee, the sales would be lower. Heck, attach ratios suggest the complete opposite; roughly 1 out of 3 GC owners had Melee while on the Wii it's 1 out of 8.5. Of course, the consoles have vastly different demographics, so that's not really a fair comparison.

I would really like to see all these casual complaining about how Melee is way too fast and refusing to buy an equally fast sequel, because my anecdotal evedence suggest otherwise; everyone feels that Melee has way better combat, though we don't hate Brawl.

This may have been pointed out already, but I will blab about it anyway. I was watching the Japanese Smash Developer Direct thingy, and noticed that the ring *cough* Punch Out!! *snort* is the only stage shown without any music. What would be the point of that? Have there been any stages in any other Smash games without music? I say the ring was the hint and the music was missing so that the inevitable character reveal isn't too obvious. Sakurai is a tricky guy.

You're onto something here!
Little Mac would be a great character reveal.

Since the villager is based on his look on the Wii version's cover, I wonder if his alt costumes/colours will reflect the other covers.

After Little Mac was shown as an assist trophy in Brawl, I wondered why he wasn't a fully playable character. I'll be 100% shocked if he's not in this one.

Kirby will become the balance board when inhaling WiiFitTrainer. Calling it now.

Someone make the shop?

I'm thinking more likely the ponytails. But I like your idea more!

Edit: The fanarts started real fast. I see plenty of them involving AC Villager and WiiFit Trainer. Regarding the later, most of them are also NSFW lol...

Rule 34 strikes hard and fast. Especially with new meat.

Ono has said very similar things - it's why SFxT experiment with simplified super motions, for instance. Melee may be beloved by competitive players, but the things he talks about - random elements, simple controls - they're barrier to entry problems acknowledged by many others. Smash is a game that a 5-6yo should be able to pick up and have fun with, and you have to design accordingly. That's why they veered away from Melee's hyper-fast speed- it was a legitimate problem.

Have the last three screenshots seriously just involved characters falling through the air?

(Man this is getting boring fast.)

It's better than getting nothing daily.

But Little Mac were rumored to be playable character, along with Mii and Pac-Man

The impression I get is most people (casual players) just don't really care. The technical differences between the two games leave a very minimal (if any) impression on the "silent majority". As such, Brawl being a game with a much larger amount of content than Melee, and one with a larger roster of characters to choose from -- obviously to these people Brawl would be seen as the "better game". The technical bit just isn't even a factor.

Do we know some details about the gameplay, like if characters have a different falling speed again?

The general speed is somewhere between Brawl and Melee, right?

That's exactly how it is, infact.
It really really saddens me to hear Sakurai believing this shit. I think he just refuses to accept the reality about Melee, really. He wants to justify a game where it is harder to always win on beginners: except it happened in brawl too anyway (lolmetaknight)

Yeah but Brawl altered a lot of mechanics specifically to damage competitive play instead of just making it more accessible to the common crowd and finding a middle ground.
