I wonder if Ice Climbers will come back as full characters. It seems like they have a hard time coming up with new, compelling moves for them, beyond the team-up gimmick, which could be given to another duo. (Tails following Sonic around dimly like the Genesis games? ) Maybe the characters that are cut will still appear in Assist Trophies, or the Wii U/3DS equivalent?
I wouldn't mind if Falco slipped off the roster, too. I recognize he plays differently, but it doesn't stand out enough, compared to even Wolf, who was clearly a clone, but stood apart from Fox better.
I figure Sonic will get one more rep. My hope is it would be Dr. Eggman in a transforming Eggmobile. The series needs more villains. Tails seems like the other obvious choice.

Ignoring the ones that have already been confirmed, I believe the characters who have been in every game thus far will return. Game & Watch and Ice Climbers are nostalgic so they'll be back. Olimar has had two games and a new Pikmin game will be out. Marth is from a long running series and Wario has his own franchise. Sonic fits the game well and Nintendo has a good relationship with Sega nowadays. Mewtwo or whatever villainous Pokemon from X and Y will have a spot. Meta Knight and Dedede will return because I don't think Sakurai will drop his own characters. Wolf is likely to come back due to the 3DS port and. Miis are in because it's heavily integrated with both the Wii and Wii U.
Everyone else I think is up in the air.

Totally agree. People only like her because they (furries) find her hot, not because she is an interesting character.
That being said we do need more female characters in Smash brothers, but I don't think Krystal is the way to go.

I for sure as hell, am not a goddamn furry. I enjoyed Starfox Adventure for what it was, and would love to see Krystal in.

The thing about Krystal is as much as I dislike her and her design, she makes a lot more sense as an original character than Falco or Wolf. I really hope they do away with endless clones, and in line with that I would absolutely take Krystal over either of those as a second Starfox rep. Give her the staff and magical powers from Starfox Adventures and make her somewhere between the Fire Emblem guys and Zelda's magic in how she plays. Certainly better than three fucking dash-reflector guys.
I have a fair few unpopular opinions, though. Don't want Ridley either.
My outlier pick would be Isaac from Golden Sun, or whatever his son was called from the DS game.
Peach and Zelda are up in the air? Oh honey, you're gonna get slapped so hard by them and Palutena and Dixie Kong.

Basically. I don't care for her as a character, but on a pure gameplay level she'd make a very interesting character. Starfox Adventures basically gives Fox all the powers she had over the course of the game, so the staff combat and all the magic powers are all things she can do. She could be purely that, or a weird mix of that and space tech. We have lots of sword users, so a staff could be something different for her normals.
If Starfox has to have a second rep, she's a better pick than Falco or Wolf.
I'd really like to see them focus up on the cast, though. Kirby doesn't need 3 reps. We don't need a second for Metroid or Kid Icarus either. Starfox needs no more than two. Focus, and represent other loved characters as assist trophies and such.

Kirby should kept three characters from Brawl and Kid Icarus should get Palutena since she's basically Zelda of Kid Icarus.
