Super Mario 3D World for Wii U

Huh, frog suit confirmed? Interesting how that will work in 3D.

lol Jimmy Fallon lying. "I play this all the time", talking about Wii U.

He says the same about pretty much every console/game, no? A few days ago he was going how he loves WoW, yeah right,

so if someone isn't enjoying a mario game, they are doing it wrong?
If the only reason they're not enjoying the game is because they insist on using an avoidable power up that they feel breaks the game, then I don't want to say they're "doing it wrong" per say...but they could be enjoying the game more if they just made one small adjustment to their gameplay style.

Maybe it's only a matter of balance. It's like if in NSMB you could find a propeller block in every level. Undoubtably, I would feel something wrong.

Are there frog suits?

:o megaton

Wait, they confirmed Tanooki and Frog? Oh shit if true.

You lying! o__0 ??

Thank god!!!! I was waiting for this suit....forever

lol where have you guys been?
and I thought I was the one missing pieces if information.. :P

Thanks for the link. I just saw their replies but it's great someone took care of that :)

Those of you who think this game looks good please don't take this personally.

I think this game looks so underwhelming that it's the main reason I'm ditching my Wii U. I don't want to play 3D Land again...

Okay.

lol at that glitch, hopefully that's just a one time thing. Reggie obviously loves playing as Peach, good man.

Are you serious?

Why did you buy it in the first place?

Don't forget there was footage of them using Kuribo's shoes

Hmm.. I thought those were just a mechanic for a level and not an power-up per se

Unless you meant a different footage

Don't forget that Kuribo's Shoe wasn't a powerup in SMB3 anyway - it was also a one-off level mechanic. But I have a feeling there will be various Kuribo's Shoe types in the game.

Kuribo's Shoe (normal)
Kuribo's Ice Skates (above)
Kuribo's Roller Skates
Kuribo's Sneakers

lol

I'm sure it's been said ad nauseum already, but before 3D world was announced, I was expecting it to be "different" to the existing 3D mario games, in the same way that sunshine was "different" to 64 and galaxy was "different" to sunshine. Galaxy 2 got a free pass despite being very samey because it was on the same system as Galaxy 1 (And 3D world would have gotten a free pass if it was a 3DS game). I've already experienced 3D land and wasn't expecting something similar on the U.

I don't know exactly what I wanted, but I wanted something new. 3D world isn't what I wanted.

But they're hiring a ton of new developers this year, and you shouldn't expect this to be the main 3D Mario title. For all we know, Nintendo is developing another 3D Mario game right now.

And none of the other games interest you enough to keep your console?

Yeah, the run -> crouch -> jump is what I was talking about. It looks the same, but doesn't go nearly as far or feel nearly as satisfying. There's not much reason to use it in 3DLand, imo.

The somersault jump is longer than the old long jump though, and it's pretty great for hitting the flagpoles when you don't have the tanooki suit.

In either case both abilities are never strictly required in the game but seem more like tools for speedrunners.

After the Fallon demo last night I'm craving more HD footage viewed on my TV. Gonna check out whatever trailers are available on the eShop.

I really don't like the camera in this. It looks like an old cRPG or something. I prefer the angle Galaxy had, especially since I doubt I'll ever play this with any friends.

Complaining about a power up and how it makes the game easier is like the "Nintendo is the definition of casual" thread where the OP buys DLC and uses it to get tons of money to make the game easier for him and then complains how Nintendo games are too easy.

While this sentiment is perfectly understandable, I don't feel it fair to completely write this game off. The 3DS is far more limited when compared to the Wii U, so they could be doing some interesting stuff.

Really? I love speed running through SM3DLand levels so this would be a really useful tip.

To be honest this doesn't look exactly like "3D Land again." Just off the initial trailer I could see that it was doing some of its own things and the few glimpses I've had since then give me the same idea. Obviously if you look at the early levels you'll get serious 3D Land vibes but there's plenty of room for the game to branch out after that.

Mario games always start off with the very basics. They're made for newcomers and veterans alike.

All that said, the main reason I'm interested in this game is because of the multiplayer. I've NEVER played a 3D Mario with anyone else before. I mean, it's a small thing I guess since the game isn't some huge and surprising departure from recent Mario games from an art style perspective, but it's still a very compelling feature to me.

Over time the Wii was my favorite multiplayer system so, since the very moment I've owned a Wii U I've desired for it to have some kickass multiplayer experiences. If 3D Mario on Wii U is to be, above all else, a vessel for never-done-before simultaneous play then so be it. Regardless of certain disappointments, I'm all about sharing a fun experience with others.

Super Mario World was such a worthlessly easy game. I just flew over every level with the Cape and/or Blue Yoshi.

eShop trailer doesn't so the game justice. You can really see the compression artefacts. Just gonna keep rewatching the Fallon demo, thank god for PVRs. :\

This Game is supposed to include suites that could fly in the NES versions such as the Tanooki suit. But I can't imagine that this game as a HUGE SKY you can FLY around like in a 2D mario game. I never played the Super Mario 3D land but all you could do with the Tanooki suit was slow down your fall. having four players on screen at once would make it hard to have one character way up in the clouds while others were playing on the ground. unless the person using the gamepad could go up. the 3 characters on the ground would be on the ground and displayed on the HDTV while the person in the sky would be only visable on the gamepad

This is the 3D Mario. We have to move onto acceptance now.

And now that I have moved on, I am more open to this game.

Genuinely thinking of picking up a Wii U. This with the family at Christmas would be insanely fun

Assuming you'll grab the deluxe model, so play some Nintendo Land while you're at it. I got sooo much mileage out of that during the holidays! Instantly justified buying the system at launch.

During Super Mario Bros 3 NES. There was one level on the 8th world I would save my P wing and CLOUD for. didn't like the level with all the tanks I used my P wing for that. I forgot what the level was I always used my CLOUD to by pass so I could get to Browsers castle

I will be buying this game since I've never owned a Hand Held and it looks just like 3D LAND. yet has the characters of Super Mario Bros 2 USA

I bet little girls will be fighting over Princess Peach

Super Mario World was such a worthlessly easy game. I just flew over every level with the Cape and/or Blue Yoshi.

Mastering the cape mechanic to be able to fly over levels is not an easy thing to do. Also you couldn't fly over many of the difficult stages because of low ceilings or because of out of screen walls blocked the player from going forward.

I'm still keeping my hopes up for a real Mario Galaxy successor (Like Sunshine was to 64 and Galaxy was to Sunshine), but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if this was the only 3D Mario we got. As fun as it looks it's not what I wanted either. :/

I am excited for it as well.

I was also initially a little disappointed, but now I am more hyped for this game than for any other E3 game.

My only disappointment is, that the Mario64/Galaxy type of Mario games tends to focus more on exploration and "questing", while the other types of Mario games focus more on "survive the level and reach the goal post".

How can you look at this... and with a straight face tell me it doesn't look like a Wii game?... i know the quality of the screenshot is not good... but the texture work alone speaks wonders...
