Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

These GF to BB theories seem incomprehensible, since even if he's in MGS5 he'll survive and not be BB. So the ideas of going to such lengths to change him only to change him back to normal sounds ridiculous. Oh shut up don't you tell me it's Metal Gear anything goes, Decoy Octopus was the only inconsequential guy in the entire series that did stuff like that, and it was because that was just kinda his thing.

I feel silly even humouring the idea.

The only fact about Decoy Octopus that is known is that he was one of the older members in Foxhound during the Shadow Moses Incident. So Kojima might give him a bigger role in MGS5 in a similar fashion as Psycho Mantis seems to be being given.

Sorry for such a noob question, but could someone explain to me if MGS5 and Ground Zeroes are going to be two different games and how they relate to each other?

Koji Pro themselves haven't decided yet. Most people are expecting Ground Zeroes to be some kind of smaller, possibly downloadable game (like Dead Rising Case Zero), to be released earlier than The Phantom Pain, which'll be the big, $60 boxed release.

Ground Zeroes is going to be a 'prologue' to The Phantom Pain, and together they'll make up MGSV. Much the same way that MGS2 is made up of the Tanker and Plant chapters, and MGS3 is the Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater.

Thanks for the explanation, much appreciated!

I could see Ground Zeroes simply being the playable demo. Like that MGS2 demo that came with ZOE. People spent tons of time in that demo messing with all the tech they built and it'd be interesting if Ground Zeroes brought that feeling back.

Imagine if Kojima goes full retard (as always) and explains Big Boss going bat shit insane and having both arms in MG1 and MG2 by having Big Boss's prosthetic arm replaced with Miller's. Either that or things will be retconned.

open world is just what the series needed.

I have to agree.

HUGE fan of the gameplay in MGS and MGS2, but clearly the best sneaking parts of MGS3 and MGS4 were the wide open areas (like the cliffside on the mountain, the End's boss arena, the heliport, Grozni Grad, Act 2's South America)

I agree.
one of my big issues with 4 and especially 3 was how many sections felt like hallways which didn't fit the setting at all.

Cutscenes aside, MGS games are famous for being able to do non-lethal playthroughs.

So yeah, they're actually great if you're "sick of violence".

I'd argue, the non-lethal way is the proper way to play. When Snake CQCs the dude in the trailer and shoots him, I'm hoping that it was just the player who fired the gun. I want a Big Boss emblem for a no kills run again.

Am definitely more interested now. Thanks for the heads up.
The last MGS game I played was on PS2.

I've ever actually killed anyone in MGS3 and in MGS1 you're only forced to killed 11 people or so.

Really cool.

I'd definitely say pick up the recent collections they've come out with.

Heck, Peace Walker rewards you for incapacitating enemies since you can recruit them to your cause.

Looks stunning but I'm sick of violent games.

You can get through MGS and only kill around 26 people (along with killing 3 unwittingly). Pretty high body count I admit lol*

But you can get through MGS2 and only have to kill 1 person (Fatman).**

You can get through MGS3 and only have to kill 6 people (the bosses)***

And you can get through MGS4 and only have to kill 1 person (the final boss)

*
9 or so guards from when you first meet Meryl. 8 guards on two separate elevator encounters. Like maybe 6 guards in the final tunnel chase. Psycho Mantis. Vulcan Raven. Sniper Wolf. And with FOXDIE you kill Decoy Octopus, Baker, and Liquid.

**
You don't kill Solidus. Ocelot does in MGS4.

***
I'm aware you can "stamina-kill" Volgin and the COBRAS but the fact of the matter is that they fuckin' explode after you beat them lol

Thanks guys but I'll wait for the PC version of this game. It looks awesome.

You don't have to kill those guards when you're with Meryl, breh

Edit: Big Boss Rank requires "Kill 25 or less guards" so you can kill less than that

I was off by one :p

The TAS run on youtube has 24 kills. Maybe you can also knockout the elevator guards, I don't remember.

Yeah, stamina kill playthroughs are pretty fun. I've never tried it, but completely avoiding conflict(meaning no stamina or lethal and just avoiding) sounds pretty fun,

I think it's possible to flip them over til they're knocked out. At least the ones wearing camo.

Love the things you can do in these games.

You can do much less than that. I believe I did it with 9 or maybe 11 kills, it's been a while.

Most of the unskippable fights can be done with minimal casualties. For example, the Meryl Prison fight can be done with no kills I believe if you let Meryl shoot everyone. For the rest of the unskippable fights , like the elevator with four invisible guys and the elevator to the metal gear hangar, you use the following method... You punch and CQC a guard into a chokehold, then you let his comrades shoot him till he dies. Repeat till there's only one guard left, then snap his neck. You'll be sparing quite a few guards that way, bringing down your total to a bare minimum... It's the best you can do due to not having tranq guns in the first game. Again , I did it like 12 years ago, so my numbers might be off, but it does work.

I like putting the Porn Mags around the corner from Claymores so they blow up when the guards bend over.

Or in the beginning of MGS3 where you can slide a guard down the hill and then shoot the other guard's radio when he loses his shit.

:lol

Another fun thing is dressing up as Raikov and running around the building punching everyone knowing they won't react because they're terrified of him

Edit: Or blowing up their food shacks so they just walk around starving. Then give them rotten food and laugh at their pain

Didn't know about the good shacks one!

It could well be a trick of editing, like he's shooting the lock off, or shooting some nearby generator that shuts off electric locks, or something.

Yes, it does not really make sense given the context of the previous games.

He offers them work; it also looks like they are showing him the diamonds thus the name Diamond Dogs. He also probably needs them to bring him more diamonds.

*implying that mgs lore hasn't already gone full potato

That ship sailed long ago.

In a previous post, I stated that Kojima specifically mentioned that Kiefer will playing Big Boss in GZ, but that's wrong.

Kojima didn't specifically mention that Kiefer would play Big Boss in GZ, but just mentioned that Kiefer will be in GZ too. But then again, who else would he play?
