Jaxel, this is the most interesting and relevant thing to be posted to this thread in a long time. I appreciate it. If you can gather up all your experiences and stories, I'm sure it'd be more than thread-worthy and we can get a discussion going on tournament organization.

Well when you run a community event that runs on time, pays out all placers, rewards volunteers, etc., do all this without making much money from it, and you end up getting a bunch of public hate for all your hard work, it can make you a tad weary of certain communities.

Speaking of eating each other alive... as I note from EventHubs, some things I could say would cause a lot of skin crawling around here.

Luckily it hasn't been as much of an issue as it used to be. But sometimes it can get bad, out of nowhere.
 
I had to log out/in like two or three times before chat started working again.

Also I think the past month or so has taught everybody that you need to be assertive as shit in the FGC otherwise you are just going to get pushed around by everybody.
 
Damn Jaxel, that sucks = Still love your streams, and it sucks that such a great streamer is treated like shit.

Also, I'm not scummy. I play Cap and just Charging Star, but I promise I'm not scummy.

Its pennies for the PLAYERS, not for the tournament organizers. These guys make a KILLING. Lets say NEC venue fee is $30... and 1000 people show up. Thats $30,000. BigE gets the venue for FREE; if you tell a hotel that you will fill up 300 rooms, they give you the ballrooms for free. In addition, BigE hires his family as staff, so he keeps the revenue in house. Not to mention he doesn't pay any of the TOs that actually help run the brackets. And of course, there is the ever increasing number of sponsors that further fatten his pockets. Meanwhile the venue fees keep increasing year of year, even though it doesn't actually cost them anymore to run the event.

These guys may have started in it for the community, but its no longer about that. Now its a business; they run more and more tournaments throughout the year because it allows them to continually bleed the community dry. THIS is the reason why they are so adamant that eSports is bad for the FGC. It has nothing to do with "grass roots" or protecting the interests of the FGC, its about protecting THEIR interests, and their revenue stream. So they are actively fucking over the FGC's chances with big eSports leagues in order to protect their own businesses. MLG is far better than EVO, and doesn't fuck over the community, and the payouts are 5 times the size, and happen every 3 months...

But if MLG ever had a chance, it would sign the death of EVO because people would see how much better it was and abandon EVO.

They'd end up on the front cover of GAF's TMZ mag. Personally, I'm a "fort knox" kinda dude.

So that must be where the talk after UFGT was since players kept talking about TOs making bank yet never naming names. Only Jebailey, Keits and some others said they make little to none.

That's definitely not pennies, but also not what I think of from the phrase e-sports money.

The people leading the US scene are definitely too immature for it to get any bigger or more profitable as it stands, whether players or otherwise.

I can't complain though, because I'm not going to step up and do shit about it.

I agree, it's a valid grievance and it seems like all the other involved parties are going out of their way to prevent this side of the story from being told.

If this is a community, people should be heard- if not, it's just another temporary scene to be exploited by a few for profit until it dies

Well, I've ran into you a couple of times, and I think you're telling the truth on what happened. I think you're right. I came to the same conclusion years ago, it's a big reason why I've never given a shit about EVO, and why I'm a VF player- VF doesn't have that political shit for the most part. I do have to thank you for giving VF some love. I now understand why you won't be at TFC despite SC being there.

To be fair, this seems like a Philly scene thing. I hit NEC and FR last year, and FR seemed MUCH better run in general.

Maybe you need to start something with all the poverty games/other stuff, and basically form your own FGC , and grow that. Prove that the FGC doesn't need the big boys. I've seen a number of groups that run their own thing and don't have anything to do with the "big boys"- I'm actually watching a stream of such folks right now.

I don't think the reason the FGC is shrinking right now is because of this. It's more of an issue with the games getting old without a lot of new stuff right now. It's cyclical, though it might become structural next-gen. Your average pot monster, who is the core of the FGC, isn't really impacted by any of this, despite how shitty the whole thing is.
 
Would definitely like to hear more about all of this from Jaxel and others, if possible. I didn't know things were that shady in the FGC. I mean, sure, there are some "interesting people" but man... everything sounds pretty wild.

Edit: Jaxel scummed off the entirety of the Dustloop forums when he made a new Blazblue site. He stole ALL of the guides he put on his site with ZERO permission.

I did no such thing. I made a new Blazblue site because the Soulcalibur community liked Blazblue and wanted to get in on it. However, the Dustloop community is one of the most unwelcoming community out there and the Soulcalibur community didn't want to go there. I did not steal ANY guides, it was people on the forums who posted those guides, I have no control over what OTHER PEOPLE post... and except for guides from ONE person, they were all reposted with permission.

Is it really necessary to start a thread about this? It's better to let the people who are involved in the situation deal with it themselves than create a thread and trying to draw attention to it. Not to mention this is just Jaxel's side of the story.

Where else can he put his side of the story out? He puts this on SRK it gets censored. There's a legit grievance here. One of the reasons I prefer GAF for FG stuff is flat-out because you get a different perspective here.

Not all the mainstream FGC events are scummy though. I do think Jaxel is painting with a bit of a broad brush here. (TBH I don't really know how CEO/UFGT are, just FR/NEC, and somewhat the Cannons from years back)

However, this is just Jaxel's side of the story. It would be fairer if people whom Jaxel mentioned in his posts has access to this website so they can give a response to what he said.
