Am I the only one who has played every single MGS but have no idea what I'm supposed to with the boxes/drums? You can't hide in plain sight without moving so what's the point?

in mgs2 if you were quick enough you could actually dequip the box as they were picking it up, so you could run away without setting the alarms off while they were still holding it.

You know that superlong hallway in Outer Haven overrun with Scarabs when you're on your way to the Microwave Hallway?

Drumcan, my friend. Just roll straight through the hordes of Scarabs.

Other uses:

- In MGS Make the wolf-dogs friendly by hiding in a box and making them pee on it

- In MGS 2, use different marked boxes in the conveyor belt room to move instantly to different rooms and areas

It is just me or anyone else here finds the "hiding behind the horse" a little stupid? I know that balancing the difficulty and the enemy ai isn't that easy, especially when you could cause frustration and anger :D But seriously?

Video EXTREMELY related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFAGKmUB5h8

It should have been shown as something with limited use. Sticking it alongside the "new breed of stealth" line was stupid.

Just watched the trailer again. Sins of the Father is sooooo fucking good. Chills everytime.
Donna Burke is amazing.

I wish the trailer so more gameplay bits. The fast forwarding annoys me as I want to see that section infiltrated without it.

Other stuff I remember from MGS2

If you open a locker that has a woman's poster on the inside, push up against it and knock on it, every guard in the area will be alerted
If you have a ration equipped while crawling through those bugs in the plant, they'll eat your rations
You can make the hostages pee themselves
When you go get the microphone, the soldiers are looking at porn in the computers and you can make the parrot say certain things
During that sniper section with EE you can hear her talk to Johnny. He let's her go because he has to poop
In that same section, you can tranq snake and then call his codec. He will either be snoring or yelling LIQUID while sleeping
Vamp is in the last cutscene

I think waiting for a sandstorm to sneak with the horse would have had much sense.

The music is just amazing, i agree!

How's he aiming down the sights with an eyepatch?

One of the things I liked about MGS3 was the way they showed Big Boss coming to grips with losing his eye. He mopes about it for a while, then when he's planting the C3 on the Shagohod he has his big "get it together, princess" moment, and from then on he seems pretty OK about it. His sly little grin when Ocelot tries to poke him in the eye on the WiG right near the end is hilarious :P

What I meant to say was that in MGS3 you can see him just leaning his head over further to line his good eye up with his gun sights. I guess he isn't really going for perfect accuracy in that MGSV shot.

Lol, Yeah. In a sandstorm, theyre less likely to see the giant Big Boss foot hanging over a horse.

I wonder if Harry Gregson Williams will be back for this or if hes being scrapped for this new direction too.

I hope so! I'm not worried for the music compartment though...it will be great as usual :D

It wouldn't make much sense to show us Big Boss' downfall without it actually being Big Boss. We know the guy becomes a villain at some point, and this game is hinting that it'll show us just that.

We know that big boss goes from being perceived as a hero, to being perceived as the greatest threat to peace of all time.

I wonder if Kojima will actually implement the theme/credit song into the game more actively. I just finished MGS1, and I forgot how much 'The best is yet to come' is actually in the game. They use it really effectively in all the emotional scenes, its pretty iconic in it's use really. I think it actually serves as the games true theme song, as opposed to the (now-dead) MGS theme. I remember MGS2 used a piano version of 'I can't say goodbye to yesterday' like once during the game in one of the codec calls. Don't think MGS3 and 4 used their credit songs at all during the game.

'Sins of the father' seems like a pretty good song, hopefully Kojima can use it more throughout the game.

Snake Eater was used during the MGS3 ladder climb. And MGS4 used The Best Is Yet To Come when you first hit the Shadow Moses complex, and multiple themes along with Love Theme during the final fist fight.

Not directly related to what youre talking about but "Calling to the Night" was in Portable Ops cutscenes and "Heavens Divide" played mid-mission in one Peace Walker mission.

Was referring to the credit songs, so Way to Fall in MGS3 and Heres to you in MGS4. but you are correct otherwise sir.

O_O You can do that?

Yep, and it's just another one of the reasons why that's my favorite game ever.

Every little thing was interactive, and that was unprecedented at the time. Hell, you could argue that MGS2 helped create the trend of more interactive and realistic items in game-worlds.

You could do something similar with the boxes in MGS1. Hop in the back of a truck and equip a box. A minute later, a soldier will come over and instruct a truck driver to transport you to whatever area is on the box.

I agree so much about MGS2. That game was unbelievable at the time.

Nobody commented on my theory.

Mechanical machines VS biological machines. Skull Face and the ninjas looks like zombies. Big Boss and Miller lost limbs. I expect this game to try to retcon the whole Ocelot/Liquid arm thing. There's going to be some frankenstein-like character in the game made up of body parts from Big Boss, Miller, and maybe others. Someone "built" to carry out a vision. This would tie in perfectly with transitioning from human Patriots to AI Patriots: just as they eventually transferred their "meme" to an AI, someone is trying to re-create Big Boss, or someone's ideals, but biologically. I think it might tie-in to Portable Ops and Gene.

Remember the Successor Project?

the goal being to create the "ultimate battlefield commander" modeled after The Boss

Gray Fox was supposed to be the perfect soldier, Big Boss was the ultimate commander (to control the perfect soldier). In the post-credit ending of MPO, Zero told Ocelot about this project and how he now had new data from the perfect soldier. Ocelot told Zero he wanted Big Boss to join them. Eventually they split. This leaves Zero with no successor to control the soldiers from his perfect soldier project.

Gene believed that he was the true successor of The Boss, and that Big Boss, her last protege, was the only other person who could rival his abilities. In a final fight to the death, Gene was defeated by Big Boss, conceding that his rival was the true successor after all.

So my guess is it might be about an attempt to create a BB replacement, now that Big Boss has gone rogue.

And it also leads me to think that it would fit with Big Boss going back to lead Foxhound later: he will defeat this new "successor" AND have Gray Fox under his charge, making the successor project and perfect soldier project failures. He will be eager to have BB return to work for him since now he will think he really needs BB for his plans to go forward. BB does so, but continues to work on Outer Heaven in the background.

The zombie ninjas might even be "perfect soldier prototypes".

The process of creating and maintaining the Perfect Soldier was to place the subjects into a special culture tank that shut out all of the soldier's senses, a process compared to a baby coming into the world for the first time, and usually caused people to go mad in minutes. Upon being deployed, the Perfect Soldier, as a result of the tank, had his/her senses heightened to a large degree, causing him/her to predict an enemy's movements at a much faster rate than normal, and being imbued with enhanced reflexes.

So in MGS5, I think we will see how The Patriots need BB himself, after failing to make someone to replace him. And I think Gray Fox is likely to be in the game.

My biggest pet peeve with every prequel game since MGS3 is the advanced tech.

Artificial Intelligences, robotic prosthetics etc.

Stuff that looks too advanced to exist in MG, MG2 and MGS' timeframe. Peace Walker already had a bunch of robots that made Metal Gear Rex look like scrubsville, never mind the original Metal Gear.

MGS3 did a good job of doing tech that was advanced for the era but not so advanced that it seemed better than MG onwards. Minus the optic camouflage, of course.

Portable Ops onwards has just been ridiculous.

Peace Walker is a good game, especially considering it was on PSP, but the things it does with the robots are just plain unnecessary and kinda stupid too imo.

And also minus the rocket propelled platforms :p

I don't think you should have as many pet peeves with Phantom Pain though. It's 20 years after Snake Eater so relative to MGS technology none of the stuff shown has been "out of place". VR training was already in use by the late 80s/early 90s so that should give you an idea of how fast technology moves in the MGS franchise (but of course like you said it's not acceptable when it's inconsistent and contradicts later Metal Gear games and awkwardly shows past technology being more advanced than the future).

And Quiet's tongue lol

Your theory is pretty intriguing.

Actually didn't have a problem with these. If you think about it for two seconds (or just shoot a bullet at the fuel canister), you can see how ill-thought out and silly the concept it. Experimental conceptually-awesome-but-actually-useless rocket tech was exactly what the US and USSR engineers were doing back in the cold war. It felt true to the era.

Flying robots with advanced AI in Peace Walker did not :P

(though yes, Peace Walker was still a fun game!)

Is it a rumor or was it ever true that Kojima entertained the idea of a MGS game starring The Boss? Because my brain couldn't possibly handle that. I can't even fathom that game.

And Quiet's tongue lol
I seriously hope she still has her tongue...her torture scene is harsh enough. Leave mah waifu alone Ocelot!

So you're saying, either coincidentally or purposefully, all of these lost limbs end up in the hands of The Patriots and serve a purpose? Hadn't thought of that, interesting.
As for the Big Boss re-creating thing, I haven't played PO but this stuff sounds exactly like the Les Enfants Terrible project. Zero iz biologically trying to re-create Big Boss.

Which is exactly what Solidus was created to do. I know I sound like a broken record, but I'm feeling Solidus will have a major role in MGS5, going so far as him being the horned Punished Snake.

Kojima might pull off the old switcheroo here. If BB fights this "successor" who might indeed be Solidus, one of them would appear to be dead only to work from the shadows and create Outer Heaven.

Didn't mean to hijack your theory, just wanted to bounce it off of mine, sorry.

By the way, I just thought about the other characters, Quiet, Eli, Code Talker, how it would it be like if you, the player, were playing as the regular MGS villain and you were gathering the colorful bosses. That sounds no different than creating a party of friends, but if the game would switch sides at some point near the end, then you would have to fight the very friends you've gathered.

This is just a random thing that came to mind, but since this might be the chapter where we see Big Boss actually become a "villain", we could also be seeing the formation of a pre-MGS1 FOXHOUND team, although that's probably a bit too early.

I just noticed this. When Big Boss is zooming in at some of the guards posted out front of the camp, the two in the static position are in the same animation at almost the same time. Small things like that kind of annoy me.

They talked in KP Alert podcast that Kojima picked scenes for trailer from all parts of the game, even the unfinished areas. After that entire studio worked like mad to make those scenes more presentable and polished.

I would expect that the finished product will look better than this trailer. Cant wait.

That would REALLY be pushing it. Not on board with that.

It's not THAT early considering FOXHOUND was already a thing by the 70s. What WOULD be too early is any of the MGS1 FOXHOUND members being a part of it yet, with the exceptions of Ocelot, Mantis, Campbell, Grey Fox, and Big Boss. Sniper Wolf and the Snakes are too young. Raven didn't join FOXHOUND until after Outer Heaven. Who knows about Decoy Octopus.

I see what you're saying, but those platforms were hauling ass at like 40mph in the jungle motorcycle chase. Aside from the fact that many were bumping into trees, that's REALLY advanced stuff. If we had those things today, even with a high fuel cost you better believe people would use them.
