Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

What is the likelihood of Sonic coming back? Would love to see Mario vs Sonic vs Megaman.

We don't know? More likely than not since he's popular and already in Brawl but we have no clue.

They designed themselves into a hole with this thing. They wrongfully thought the only real way to evolve smash bros was to put it on a handheld. Then they realize it's holding back the game but since it's decided, they go along with it anyway, and now the game might suffer in ways, which is ironic considering the 'evolution' sentiment. So stupid.

Interesting. I'm glad he's open to it, and hopefully they will settle for an acceptable solution.

Why couldn't I keep my foot out of my mouth :/

It was stupid of me to assume that he didn't care, and there were clearly some extraneous factors at work here.

Sakurai: Until now, I am always considered myself personally responsible for specificities of each characters, from the balance at all, so I came to create each attack separately, for each display. But it is a task that I have to share with others this time, so if ensure that the right balance is found for this game.

I'm getting more and more excited for this new smash game. Seriously, I trust in Sakurai to deliver us a title that won't let us down.

I really hope snake comes back. I am more worried about him since it seems like its almost guaranteed Sonic will return considering he has exclusive games coming for Wii U

Regarding that quote, I feel what he meant (and I believe he mentioned as much in other interviews) is that the technical limitations are related to how some characters like Olimar would work, not the number of characters. Considering space is hardly a problem for 3DS games, I'm inclined to believe the technical limitations are more in the heardware/engine area.

No, he definitely meant total number of characters in one of the more recent interviews.

It probably was just a stage hazard that appears intermittently.

We've already seen matches there, and also a fairly long continuous play in the developers direct video.

I guess it could be something like Cresselia in Spear Pillar, which has a small chance of appearing at the start of the match, but, eh, I still don't see why they'd have ended the trailer with a stage hazard, even though the stage otherwise has gotten plenty of show time and even explanations.

Well the latest Soulcas didn't have great Single player modes so...

I don't profess to know what was going on with 4, but 5 was definitely a victim of corporate meddling due to Namco only giving Odashima and the rebuilt Project Soul like a year to churn out a game. There was a lot of content planned that didn't make it in because they just didn't have the time.

Ideally, such a thing won't be as much of a concern for Sakurai. I could see him delaying the game(s) rather than release something that didn't measure up to his standards or what he wanted in.

Honestly sounds a bit more of a misunderstanding. Sakurai's quotes tends to be taken a bit out of context often I've kind of noticed.

PN: With each new opus, you have added still more characters, arenas. But with Brawl, the game appeared less polished than its predecessors. For the new Smash Bros., will you change your approach by including less content, but making sure that all is well polished?

Damn.

Nope. I've got the time now, so let me look for it.

Edit: It was from the Kotaku interview:

Kotaku: Should people expect returning characters, should they expect most of their favorites from Brawl to come back?

Sakurai: The reality of the situation unfortunately is that there are certain limitations on the 3DS, so we're forced into a situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree, but we're really working hard to include as many characters as possible.

That quote's actually not really differently worded compared to the original statement in the same vein, so I thought it was more explicit than it is. However, when "due to certain limitations of the 3DS [we need to] reduce characters to a certain degree" is in direct reply to if people's favorites from Brawl will be returning, I really think it's disingenuous to think he's not talking about the roster size.

Now THAT is a long informative interview still making my way through it.

Sakurai completed the roster for Brawl as early as 2005 AFAIK. Only exception were Snake and Sonic (who got added in 2007).

Yep I think he always completes the roster and if there's some time left he might try to add more.

HHHOOOOOWWWWW!?

at least that ends the debate of character limit since some thought Sakurai was being misquoted

:( all dat power in the wii u and its for nothing

should have just ported melee to the 3DS with added brawl characters

*runs with flame shield*

Not even sure what the point is of holding back the Wii U version because of the 3DS version when both versions can't even communicate with each other except for whatever Sakurai's mentioned in vague statements. Heck, if the game was just a Wii U exclusive, it could be a veritable system seller.

Toon Link makes sense but not Wolf?

Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

Yes.

Dispute the fact that I would love Toon link replacing the normal one, He is just link. Wolf got in because he was a highly requested character, and his moveset is unique.

I see falco getting the boot before wolf. And I do not see Falco getting the boot.

there sure are a lot of overreacting people here about the 3DS version, can't you guys wait and see before judging it like its the end of the world?

By that logic Ganon should get the boot. :(

I'm opposed to the very existence of a 3DS version. It doesn't mean it won't be fine, but it certainly means that the Wii U version won't be as good as it could have been without a 3DS version.

I am literally going to kill myself if the 3DS versions restricts the number of characters on the WiiU version.

no I'm not

if there is no cross play between the 3ds and wiiu version, I don't get why the 3ds would hold the wiiu version back.
Of course we don't know how the 2 games will communicate, but the most basic thing they could do is share stats, the trophy and sticker stuff from ssbb, but that just metadata. 3ds wouldn't compromise the wiiu version in that regard.
The only conclusion is there is gameplay altering content between the 3ds and wiiu.

To put things in perspective, characters in Tekken have movesets that go beyond hundreds of moves. Not one single character was removed from Tekken 6 HD to Tekken 3D Prime Edition, and that's with the crappy movie shoehorned in which probably hogged most of the space.

Not to mention Street Fighter and Tekken (same with DOA and BB) are early or launch games which probably don't use big game cards.

It sucks that Street Fighter and Tekken got tiny, limited rosters on 3DS compared to the HD consoles :(

Thing SF, Tekken, and DOA don't have:
- 4 players in a match
- players can be characters that have a multitude of characters (Pikmin, Ice Climbers)
- all 4 players should potentially be able to play as one of those characters at the same time
- items/assist trophies/Pokémon
- more dynamic stages/hazards

The first point isn't really an issue, but when you consider the rest of it should perform like Melee/Brawl it makes one wonder how much the 3DS can handle.

That makes things sound better. I wonder if stating the 3DS is a limiting factor for the roster is another lame excuse like videos on Youtube being why the cutscenes aren't distributed alongside the single player content anymore.

Then again, like the above describes, SSB is far more dense when it comes to content (especially amount of content in a screen at once).
