Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

I can only hope that Sakurai realizes the limitations of the 3DS, and backs off his previous notion of having the same roster in both. I'd rather not see Ice Climbers get cut, but I fully expect them to be. Olimar would be very odd to see cut after the whole "Nintendo hasn't introduced many new characters in more recent years" comment for Brawl-- but I'm not surprised to see him go back on that either.

It's like everything he says we can't even trust...

Sakurai should of just made a remastered version of Smash 64 and thrown that on the 3DS while spending the majority of his time and effort on the Wii U game.

This is what I expected to happen tbh but I'm more than surprised they're going further beyond this (as far as we've seen anyway)

If they can fit pokemon on there, Anything can fit in a 3ds card I guess.
Space on the game card is not an issue, 3DS performance is. I still think 3DS has showed impressive stuff and won't struggle with a game that was possible on GameCube, but we'll see :P

all the cutscenes finally found themselves on the internet. Players watched them online, which was not really sticking with what we had originally planned. It is for this reason that we are not going to do something similar this time

lol if that's his reason, ...I could imagine the reason being time restraints, but ..I really liked the subspace emissary story... I hope Sakurai doesn't implant "stills' like PS all stars did for Adventure mode/story mode this time <.<

is there a gamecube controller to 3ds adapter available

lol you and I wish. I'm seriously curious if they'll even have a Smash Attack shortcut like the C-stick for the 3DS version (to be honest I'd be 100% okay ditching taunts on the d-pad if it gave me smash attacks ala c-stick instead). Or, an interesting idea would be skipping chargable smash attacks in favor of Smash 64 style smash attacks (only for the 3DS version though).

Circle pad pro smash attacks. :p

I doubt many would complain if that was the case. I know I wouldn't. Add Online, some stages, items and characters from Melee for good measure, and just be done with it.

It's so nice, for once, to not have to wonder if my #1 favorite character will make it into a new Smash or crossover fighting game. Mega Man was the first new character announced, so I don't really care who else does or does not get in at this point. It's a freeing feeling. :D

Well, technically my favorite character is X, but Mega Man's a close second and more appropriate for Smash. He's been my #1 character wish for Smash since Sonic was revealed for Brawl.

Still wondering what his Final Smash is going to be! I'm hoping for a Mega Man 7-style Super Mega Man transformation where he fuses with Rush and flies around the screen, owning everyone with homing rocket punches.

I guess if I had one other character I'm kinda hoping for, it's Krystal (to replace Wolf; that's one less clone-ish character and we don't need a fourth Star Fox rep). I think her staff could make for a fun play style. But if she doesn't make it, no biggie.

I'm expecting Ghirahim for sure, though. Seems like such an obvious addition.

Forreal I would be absolutely hyped for that; just updating everything about Smash 64 and adding content to it (the sensible chars like Bowser, Peach, Mewtwo, Ganondorf, Zelda, stages, and online) and I would be happy. Smash 64 still plays super well today (aside from the analogue stick on the original N64 controller...) I LOVE how high the shieldstun and hitstun are! It makes being in your shield so much more dangerous.

Really? I'm excited that the 3DS will get a fully new Smash Brothers game, with stages from handheld specific games.

Smash 64 would be fun on 3DS and I would totally buy it on the eshop but it doesn't take full advantage of the hardware.

Same. As I tend to prefer handhelds I can see myself liking the stage selection better on 3DS :P Not going to lie, I'm a bit more hyped for the 3DS version. Will day-one both, though.

Sakurai seemed to indicate that both games may not release the same day so I'm wondering if maybe the 3DS version will release first... that would be interesting. More people would have incentive to buy that to get a taste of new Smash earlier and it'd hold them over until the Wii U one came out (assuming they'd be months apart in release, which I can't imagine is too impossible to expect).

Exactly! Smash 64+ would be more than adequate for the 3DS.

This part from the interview should be a bit reassuring for you, guys:

Sakurai said:
Even though the characters will be the same in the version Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, the arena will be completely different. In the 3DS version, they are based on games released on portable consoles, while Wii U, arenas are based on articles on home console games.

With the 3DS having specific stages then having 4-ICs or 4-Olimar matches is probably not an issue. All stages we've seen from the 3DS version seem rather "tame", nothing crazy going on at all. Come on guys! I'm pretty sure this will turn out okay on both systems. No need to wish for the awesome 3DS version to not exist.

I don't have a problem with two "brand baby spanking new" Smash games but the design philosophies behind these are causing concern for some fans. If the Wii U game wasn't required to share a roster with the 3DS game that alone would alleviate most of the concerns. I am also a tiny bit worried about resource allocation and time restraints.

I'm also very excited for the 3DS version. It'll be the first handheld Smash Bros., it will have its own unique art style and stages, and the customization idea gets me very interested

I would rather to think otherwise where they will release Wii U first and they have to focus on converting characters into 3DS so they could work very well on 3DS.

Too much negative vibes here. I'm scared now.

Only if we get like 50 stages, but I seriously doubt that we will get that amount since the stages would split into two different systems. I would like to have all 8 tournament stages having different kind of formations of stage and platsforms.

I kept reading limitations and characters which would kept me concerning about the game. I'm aware of limitations would applying to the characters in 3DS. Think about the situation where they have to put all of their efforts to put characters into 3DS so I'm concerned with time management which would have the potentials that would reduce our roster numbers. I would like to have numbers that are more than Brawl's. Number between 42 to 50 would be good enough for the fans.

I'm sorry if I sound selfish but that's what my expectation would be when it came to characters battle royale/fighting games sequels. Yes, I'm aware of Sakurai already claimed that he's not interested to only increased numbers of characters and stages.

It's difficult for me to get worried over interview answers, especially when Sakurai is being vague and broad with some of his answers. Based on what I've seen the 3DS version looks and works fantastically, and I'll continue to believe so until I actually see something in the game to change my mind.

If Sakurai gets rid of Ice Climbers or whatever, then I'll wait for him to confirm it before I flip a table.

My negativity comes from a blissful paradise of glittery love.

I don't understand why people want to get rid of Olimar, Diddy, Ice Climbers, etc.

I guess people can't handle Ice Climbers. ;)

Mario is the only character that really needs to get scissored out of Smash existence.

GAF, would you rather let director Sakurai take the time to heal his expert yet broken hands and delay the game since he's heavily involved in the fine-tuning or make him suffer through the pain just so we can get the game earlier?

I'd probably let hundreds of talent involved suffer through physical pain just to get the game earlier than later...

Once again, Namco-Bandai and Nintendo had a contract that might have a schedule to follow.

Edited: Don't get me wrong, I do want him to take a break.

3DS resulting in less playable characters?

I say bring it on! Being able to play smash wherever/whenever is worth losing content from the main game. It's practically a dream of mine to play smash on the go.

EDIT: You can't really heal from Calcific Tendonitis. It's a persistence disease that requires a heavy dose of medical treatment.

Let the man heal. Even if you don't have empathy for other human beings, if he suffers permanent arm/hand damage, he might quit development altogether.

I'd definitely want him to heal. I do want to play the game and all, but not at the possibility of permanent damage on his arm.

How is that a question? Sakurai's healthy > any schedule. And it'd blow because this game has all my hype, but lol at placing it above anyone's health.

Fun characters and stages that are not in Melee?

Screw not having Pokémon Trainer and Delfino Plaza, for example.
I love all 3 games almost equally.

Good riddance.

Melee didn't have/need them to be greater than brawl.

You're right, because it wasn't greater.

Care to elaborate? List a handful of things added into Brawl that made it better than Melee, I can wait.

Let him heal up because I realize borderline killing the guy who makes one of my favorite franchises isn't the smartest thing to want, but I'd assume if he took time off they'd still be development on characters, bug-testing and other smaller areas being done during the delay time.

You're good people.
Link's Awakening is my favorite 'classic' Zelda game by far.

Ehh...I preferred melee's adventure, classic, and all star mode. The latter 2 because they're random. Melee had the better target smash. The poke balls were better. Event matches are much more fun.

...Brawl had more content I guess and the joy of the hacking community.

Still like both :P

[List of stuff that supposedly makes Brawl better than Melee]

Some of those would have made the game better in theory (online, SSE), but were executed so horribly that I'd hesitate to call them positives.

The rest (more characters, level, music) are debatably wasted a battle system that is slow and doesn't allow for high-level play. And I'm not talking wave-dashing or any of that; I'm talking about the fact that you can't even combo because of a lack of hit-stun, a basic fighting game component.

As a long time fighting game fan and someone who put hundreds of hours into Melee, I loved the lowered hit-stun in Brawl. Smash was never about combos for me. If anything, combos get in the way of what I love most about Smash as a fighting game - strategic platforming.

This is also why Final Destination is one of my least favorite stages unless there are items on or I'm playing as one of the Links.

I have played online matches weekly since 2008 and still do. Sometimes... yes it sucks, but most of the time it is quite stable. The biggest draw back is of course friend codes. Ignoring the improvements for the sake of arguments, not that you are Tookay but others, is silly.

Personally I don't understand why I have to choose one over the other, since I like both for different reasons.

I'd argue that combos force you to consider strategic platforming even more by aiding you with opportunities to attack and follow up for good placement and punishing you for not factoring in the environment effectively in your strategy.

Lowered hit-stun decreases the risk/reward of that decision-making by resetting character advantages and placement after every blow. It makes the platforming meaningless.

And this is why Smashboards tore itself apart. Absurdity.

You know we can have a discussion that's civil. Why is it every time Brawl is criticized there has to be ad hominem arguments directed towards its detractors, instead of debating the merits of the position?

I've played hundreds of hours of both Brawl and Melee, and never set foot in a tournament, nor have I ever learned to wavedash; I know what I like out of both games and what I don't. And further, I've learned to articulate what I like and what I don't.

You could learn from guek. You want to refute my argument that Brawl is slow and doesn't allow for high-level play (or that its better aspects are wasted on such preferential things), make an argument, not an insult.

All this is hate for the 3DS version is killing me. I have no interest in a Wii U and don't want to pay 350 for one game. I really hope they don't can the 3DS version.
