Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

Coldblooded describes Solid Snake in MGS1 in a nutshell fairly perfectly.

I don't need any partners. I work better alone.
Snake...if I slow you down, you can shoot me.
I don't like to waste bullets.

after the Mantis fight

I've seen true evil. You Snake. You're just like the Boss (Liquid)... No, you're worse. Compared to you, I'm not so bad.

later when captured by Sniper Wolf

Should I kill you now? Or after your female friend?
I'll die after I kill you.
Love this shit. Perfect examples of why MGS1 Snake (and his development in MGS2) is my favorite version of ANY Snake.

He had a distinct personality and expressed thoughts of his own. A lot of interesting back and forth between him and other characters.

Not nearly enough gun porn in all the footage they've shown so far BTW. I want to see more carving pistol grips to properly hold a knife at the same time, more ejecting of rounds only to load it back into the magazine, more geeking out over 1911s and/or a SOCOM, etc.

Enough with all the weirdo torture and child murdering, Kojima. Give me a weapons trailer.

Would be great if we finally got to see some early BB-Solid Snake stuff but I would bet my house on that being the post credits audio teaser in this game. I can just hear it now.

Random Military Guy - Big Boss the solider you wanted is right in here.

"big boss walks into a room and sits down"

Big Boss - You have been selected you to join Fox hound. Whats your name soldier?

Mysterious Soldier- David.

"random back and forth between the two"

Big Boss. Well welcome aboard. Oh by the way. You need a code name. From now on you are called Solid Snake.

"DUN DUN DUNNNNN"

Only question is would Hayter even bother recording 90 seconds of VO after Kojima did his best to burn that bridge?

Waaaay too on the nose for Kojima. It'll probably be a conversation with someone else about possibly recruiting a "son of big boss".

Wow, that's awesome. That sounds great!

Can I download this?

Never tried downloading anything from the archives. Might be possible.

What is this Twin Snakes you guys talk about? That game was never released.

Doesn't exist.

Nope.

Now compare this to Snake's character in MGS4 =\

Ok last time linking this, I swear
MGS2 Euro Extreme No Save Big Boss Rank attempt // Finish the game in under 3 hours, 0 kills, 3 alerts (all forced), 0 continues, 0 rations

It's both. Hayter's MGS1 performance of Snake was painful or something, so he recreated it so it was less painful for his throat. Shamefully from then on wards most of his acting was trying to imitate the original MGS1 voice, as opposed to actually acting it.

And yeah, the liberties Blaustein took with MGS1 were great. TTS follows the original script more faithfully, and it's less effective for it. I can understand why Kojima was annoyed, but Blaunstein's changes were for the better.

At least Twin Snakes didn't have the ridiculous accents for Mei Ling and Naomi. God the voice direction in the first game was lazy as hell, not bad, but it felt like in order to differentiate characters they decided that Every. Single. Person. needed an accent. It made sense for some, but definitely not for those two.

As for Blaustein's changes vs the TTS script. Blaustein's was probably a bit better, though honestly not by much. Both are ridiculously long, overwordy, and well quite similar. TTS' problem was that it was even more on the nose than the original.

Also, after replaying MG2: Solid Snake, it's nuts to realize that Kojima just straight ripped himself off with MGS1, making it a bit more realistic in the process. Yes, MGS1 is actually LESS insane than MG2.

An MG1 remake as a partnership game with Gray Fox and Solid Snake would be awesome. Gray Fox at the beginning would serve as a clever tutorial and most parts, you work together to take down Outer Heaven.

In the next game, it'd be another co-operative game but now Snake at times works with Holly.

Now compare this to Snake's character in MGS4 =\

He'd rapidly aged.
The world had been censored up the ass.
He hadn't achieved any of the things he wanted to do.
He's basically alone.
Metal Gear had proliferated to such a degree that it was common place.
Proxy wars were a global problem.
The Patriots had full control.
and he had a year to live.

It would be strange if he WASN'T the bitter guy he is in MGS4.

You do know why Kojima made him like that, right?

He made Snake like that because that's how Kojima actually felt by being forced to make MGS4 because no one understoon MGS2.

He ruined the character because he was depressed. Having reasons why he is the way he is doesn't mean he's a good character.

Yeah, I know, Kojima was using Snake to reflect his own feelings towards the series at the time.

Even if you removed that though and Kojima had decided to keep the game the way it was, Snake's character makes sense given his circumstances. Even if it's not the one we'd prefer.

But being that way, doesn't mean he's a bad character.

Oh yeah his character makes sense given the circumstances but he created the circumstances because he wanted Snake to be like that.

And I'm just saying that in my opinion, in MGS2 Snake was a great character(even if not the main one) and bad in MGS4.

Well maybe they do the "stop calling me snake. Call me Big Boss" ending for the 4th game in a row.

Ha, it reminds me that for some reason I decided to rewatch the Peace Walker TGS 2009 trailer yesterday! It was misleading as shit. Barely any footage of the comic scenes, the "call me big boss!" line being put on a scene that had absolutely nothing to do with it, footage of the joke missions with Paz and Kaz thrown around to make you believe there were ingame cutscenes...

I ended up loving Peace Walker, but god is this trailer a terrible deception for the fans. NOT in a good way.

I wanna see Kojima's wife.

I have this crazy theory it's actually Yumi Kikuchi.
Not really serious.

Completely different engine that's much more efficient and built for multi-platform use. We don't know about how many DVD's.

ah thanks.

can anybody tell me how far we can trust kojimas claims about the footage (the hospital gameplay and e3) being current gen ?

i think it looks way too good.

All he said was that it ran on PC hardware with current gen specs. At that time (GDC) they targeted current gen machines. They might tweak the engine to remove that dithering und find a AA solution for next gen systems.

I don't mind Kaz or someone close referring to him as Snake. He's officially accepted his title as Big Boss - it's like the next step in the evolution of his character. But people close to him like Kaz, refer to him as Snake like in an affectionate way - like they're close friends.

Now, if even outside people call him Snake then that'd be weird to me.

Yeah I get what you mean, but when did people call him 'Snake' after he accepted the title of Big Boss? I'm not talking about Kaz but outside forces?

I think Big Boss likes that name because it reminds him of FOX and that's why he has FOX on the MSF uniform too, right? As a sign of respect for Zero and his former unit. Even though he left him in bad circumstances I think that's why he's fond of that name - he still has some respect for Zero and his past with him right now even though they're separated.

I guess in this game, their relationship will go right down to zero. There will be no respect left for him as far as Big Boss is concerned. Of course, if there are outside people referring to him as Snake even then that'd be stupid, but I haven't seen this so far even in PW e.g. am I correct in saying that Paz refers to him as Snake early on and after she reveals herself, then she calls him Big Boss? I thought that's a neat touch in terms of the game I guess.

I guess you're right as Coldman calls him Big Boss. Strangelove doesn't but that's understandable.

Revolver Ocelot Character BIO:

Ocelot started off by betraying his country followed by betraying Volgin. Afterwards, Ocelot was pretending to be a member of Liquid's FOXHOUND as a contact to Gurlukovich while pretending to secretly be keeping in contact with Solidus while overall actually being completely against Solidus' goals by working with the Patriots before he pretended to be overtaken by Liquid so he could oppose the Patriot AI because in the end he was against the Patriot AI the whole time.

lol

So then technically he was always on Vic Bosses side since he was anti-Patriots too.

ThreeDogg is the MAN. I've watched his runs and attempted them on HD MGS2. Jesus christ. It's so easy to fuck up. It's really satisfying when you are successful though. I don't think I can casually play MGS2 anymore. I have to attempt this. I've done everything else in it. It's sort of nice to have new goals for a 12 year old game though.

He's like 30 minutes from the WR but he is still a BEAST. Some of the strats for that game are ridiculous and he makes them look easy.

He's doing a story run right now if anyone's interested.

I expect the opposite. I think Big Boss will go back to being "friend" with Zero. Might be a ruse, but they have to explain him going back to lead Foxhound. That's why I think the main enemy in the game will be some other faction that even Zero is trying to fight, at least "officially".

Watching now, I love this stuff. Metal Gear games always amaze me at how people figure out how they can just pull off things I would never even consider doing.

You could be right. Even though from the trailer it's against Cipher. Maybe Cipher later on pretends to fight against XOF or actually turns on XOF to try to win back Big Boss after so much damage has been done to their (Cipher's) plans? And Big Boss kinda begrudgingly believes it but Ocelot covertly warns him that it's fake and Cipher was in on everything.

He mentioned once or twice that it's not as easy as it looks. I definitely believe him. Even with practicing, I still feel like I'm merely getting lucky when I successfully use his strategy for an area in MGS2. MGS3 is MUCH easier due to the unlimited saves though. You can just dashboard/XMB quit and then start an area over. 8 saves in MGS2 is goddamn rough. I can't believe they made that a stipulation.

Is there video of the world record? I've never seen it.

They're definitely difficult. That game has made me cry many times :lol

Record should be this one: http://speeddemosarchive.com/MetalGearSolid2.html

Save after Olga. Save at the start of the Plant. Save after Fatman. Save after Harrier. Save after you and Emma finish the underwater parts. Save at the start of Arsenal. Save at the start of the MG RAY fight. Save before the tough Solidus chokehold. My suggestions anyways. The start of the Plant for Fatman is the longest segment and losing in one hit to Fortune can be goddamn frustraating. The hardest segment though is from Arsenal start to MG RAYs. The two Tengu fights have tricks but they can be annoying. And the MG RAYs themselves require endurance on the player's part.

That run isn't a Big Boss playthrough though, it's just a standard European Extreme one. Youtube has a couple extremely impressive BB MGS2 runs.

edit: This is currently the shortest I've seen on youtube:

Thanks. I'll have to watch when I get home.

I've mapped something similar to this. Start of plant to Fatman is where I kept getting frustrated and fucked up a lot. The segment being as long as it is makes it super discouraging to mess up.

If you want to, try going Save at start of Plant and then do the bombs for Strut C, B, A, F (get the suppressor for the cameras in Strut E) and then save.

Then your next segment would be Strut E or DE Connecting Bridge to Fatman since Struts E and D are the hardest)

Obviously this means you have to remove a save and my honest recommendation would be the post-Harrier save.

The 4 or 5 guards after the Harrier are in weird positions but once you get past them Shell 2 is virtually empty and Vamp 1 is an EXTREME pushover (tons of ways to cheese the fight even if you're going for no-kill)
