Index (Atlus) entering into a restructuring bankruptcy; looking to transfer/sell

The issue is whether purchasing or sponsoring Atlus / Index is actually a good idea for them.

Boom. This is a THQ situation all over again. People hinting they /could/ or /are interested/ in buying something, but at the end decide not to because it's not a good investment (MegaTen, /especially/ Persona, is as niche as it goes in the States. Knowing Sony they would want to go for an international approach.)

I don't want this group to die. I /love/ MegaTen and Catherine. But think about it: What IP does Atlus have that can prove to be profitable from a worldwide perspective?

Hope someone picks them up relatively intact.

Don't be bought by EA

Persona and Dragon's Crown.

I don't think so. Atlus games, I believe, still make money.

Sony has hired a lot of Atlus employees lately. They may just go ahead and buy the IPs and build a new studio.

Sony is an extremely wealthy company...all Mr. House / Mr. Yoshida has to do is make a call to Kaz and pitch the idea.

They are not extremely wealthy but the cost for Atlus in a fire sale would be small for them.

EA doesn't care about handhelds and doesn't care about console games that don't sell multi millions

Acti doesn't care about hadhelds or console games that don't sell multimillion unless they are cheap shovelware cash ins

i think your safe

They're definitely affected. Atlus USA is actually "Index Digital Media" and is a subsidiary of Index. Hopefully they pull through.

Fuck. My heart can't take this.

Index Digital Media is probably the biggest reason why Atlus probably won't be picked by a company that is already in the videogames market - it would be rather redundant for them to pick another publishing arm.

This isnt about profit or loss it's about illegal/fraudulent activities so no point in the BUY X GAME posts

It'd be kinda funny if they reason they got investigated and found out was because of the people angry about P4A reporting them for price fixing

Less so probably purchasing Atlus, more so getting some of the talent there. SCEJ is hunting at the moment, so there will be growth. This just came at a bad time. It's an easy acquisition should it occur though. Just depends whether it would make sense long-term.

Atlus has confirmed as much already via its official Twitter feed.

My translation off the cuff, from bottom to top:

"The PlayStation 3/PlayStation Vita versions of Dragon's Crown, both the retail and digital download versions, are set to be released on July 25 as it was originally scheduled. We apologize for worrying our users."

"Multiplayer and save data sharing functionality for Dragon's Crown is conducted via the PlayStation Network. Because of this, multiplayer services are guaranteed."

"Additionally, downloadable content that's currently in development for Shin Megami Tensei IV, as well as the retail and demo releases for Etrian Odyssey: The Millennium Girl [not sure what the official localized title is, but it's the remake] are set to proceed for the time being."

A few sentences were trimmed down for efficiency, but that's the long and short of it.
Thank you! That's all I need to know.

Sony buying ATLUS seems like wishful thinking. They're a niche company and Sony has been putting most of its money behind western development.

let me think about it...
atlus made radiant historia, best ds jrpg.
they did smt 4 also which will probably be the best 3ds jrpg...

so for nintendo jrpg fans it's better not lose atlus 3ds support imho

i would love sony to buy atlus anyway.

with news like this it seems persona fans will have to wait longer for a persona 5 lol

Wasn't it said in the last thread that Sony never acquired any developer in Japan, only western ones?

The same is true for any big gaming company out there. Are you telling that nobody will buy them?

They will be bought, but like everyone said, no reason that it will happen by a company already in the market.

Eh, while I don't want Sony to buy Atlus they do need more influence over Japan. Atlus' software arsenal is about as effective as Sony's in JP, so they'd essentially be doubling their first party software sales in JP which is something they probably need.

Why would Nintendo or Sony have to buy Atlus?

This Index thingy is recent, no? Who used to own Atlus before that?

I don't know what I'm talking about.

Pre Order SMT 4 Now

When should we know something more about this? I mean, new updates about the business transfer?
