Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

I assume you've gone through 1 and 2 as well? How were the vita versions over all? How's the framerate hold up in 2 and 3?

I caved and bought the collection along side Hotline Miami and Muramasa, so I'm hoping the port issues aren't too damning.

Top of the page: Buy Ys: The Oath in Felghana or else you're a disappointment to all gaming kind.

Is this a PSP version or is it a new one coming to the Vita (GAF is the only gaming site I can get to @ work or I would look myself)?

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 is coming out in Japan on October 31, 2013. It's a remake of the first game for PS3. More screens in the link below.

No. Some are big anime girls.

It's uncanny how many PS3 games are getting superior versions on the Vita.

Although I also read that it was originally going to be a bare-bones port until a later decision to add content, and even then, there's no saying if it'll be anything significant. On a scale, I'd like to see Persona 4 levels of new content, rather than Atelier Rorona (a port dungeon and costumes).

Hoping, of course, that the DD-only trend doesn't continue..

My thoughts exactly. My only complain is the touch-only targeting, I wish at least the right stick was clickable. That might make it more strategical though, as you need to stand still when targeting, maybe outside a room planning your strategy and first target before entering. Might be a pain in the later stages :P
True, but tap to lock on isn't too bad. It works well enough lol

What type of controls are you using?

The touch controls to lock on? Or the right stick to aim? You can also use the square button to lock on. I feel that's the best option for me so far.
A combination of both. I use right stick to aim most of the time but when I get in a jam I use touch to lock on. Works really well for me.

I'm surprised but I like the vita version best as well due to tap to lock on.
Not to mention that OLED and widescreen. Does it have widescreen on the PC? It's been a while since I've played that version.

Somebody pointed out that the frame rate is only "crap" in the beginning and posted videos of it being more stable yesterday.

That's good to hear...but I think I will wait for a PS+ sale or price drop without a patch. Just doesn't make sense to pay $27 when its a somewhat shoddy port and it will no doubt be on sale in time. Unfortunately I don't have high hopes for a patch.

I remember reading that ND did some weird stuff on PS2 to get Jak running so it makes sense that the Vita version struggles but that really doesn't make it acceptable. Vita deserves better!

Here's Jak 1 about 8 hours in with particle effects going off and crazy high jumps.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhOlFerCF6Y

And jak 3 about an hour in - in a busy town.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36R8qU-DPrU

Framerate is fine. It's no 60FPS like the ps3 version, but it's fine. Me thinks most reviewers didn't play past the tutorials in all three games (which are lower framerate wise than the rest of the game).

Okay i had VLR on the vita free on psn+ recently and had been sittng there for a bit, although i dont normally go for japanese with mangaish type art games i started it up for a 5 min "try" to see what my free psn+ game was like before i'd delete it...or so i thought, before i knew it i was 45 mins into the game and i only stopped becuase i realised i hadnt made food for me nor my Girlfriend.

Without trying to spoil it to much i have recently found out it has another game in the serious which came out on the DS a while ago the 999 game which i also haven't played (i do intend to get)

My question is i dont know what other games like this i might enjoy, i dont know if it was the puzzles, or the story, the art or the bizzareness to it (it was to me bear in mind as i say i dont go for these types of games normally) or everything that i liked but something clicked and everytime i was going to put it down, it was a case of a little bit more a little bit more

But what i really want to know besides 999, what else should i get that may be like this? For the vita preferably
But i have the 3ds and ps3 too and a ipad mini which im typing this on (i guess shouldnt be to much a issue cos vlr seemed to be touch screen anyway)

What does gaf recommend?

Thanks for the video! It seems to chug at a few points but certainly not 15 FPS-bad..I have also read about some minor input lag in some reviews, have you experienced this at all?

Also, is that the digital or physical version? Wondering if that makes a difference (I only buy digital these days)

ace attorney 1 - 3 on your 3DS or iPad mini.

Are you guys using a screen protector? I just removed my Vita's screen protector and there's a noticeable improvement without it on (obviously since the screen protector's accumulated scratches over time).

Also noticed that while the screen protector is all scratched up there's not a single scratch anywhere on the rest of the Vita's surface. I've had my Vita for over 6 months now so that seems to indicate that the front surface material must be somewhat scratch-resistant despite being made of plastic.

Maybe the Corpse Party games for the PSP? I think they work on the Vita.

Thats what screen protectors are for. The image quality change is the same as looking at something through your window and then opening the window.

What I meant to emphasize was that the rest of the Vita was unscratched (my screen protector only covered the display itself). So it would seem that the screen protector was maybe unnecessary to begin with.

Thanks for posting this. Well if it actually plays that way then I'll be picking it up in the future. Just too many Vita games in my backlog at the moment.

Picked up Hotline Miami with no expectations whatsoever and I must say that I'm having a blast. My only gripe is that sometimes the AI doesn't follow the same pattern and may open doors that they normally don't, but I take it as yet another challenge.

Those Neptunia screens are looking great. They're very close, if not on par, to the PS3 version. However, the original game didn't have the greatest graphics in the first place.

Fingers crossed that it gets localised. If it does and also gets a retail release, even better!

Just impulse-bought Hotline Miami. I've finished the game on PC, but it was amazing enough for me to want to support the devs better, and I got it from humble bundle. Good chance to support both Vita and the devs, I say! Wonder how good the port is, and how are the non-mouse controls, 5 minutes till the download's finished.

I like it better than mouse control, lock-on for the win.

Did anybody get Lego Legends of Chima? Would like to know how it is.

The 3DS demo was atrocious, so I can't imagine the Vita port being much better. Easily the worst LEGO-related game I've played yet. Horrible graphics, sluggish combat system with canned 'final blow' attack animations that constantly spazz out and the whole first level was essentially a restrictive hallway despite being outside. Just awful.

It's almost 6 in the morning here and I've slept for 2 hours last night, and even so I've had no problems at all adjusting. Sure, will take some getting used to, but I feel like I'd rather 100% it on the Vita. Lock on is nothing new, it was there on PC, but using the touchscreen for that feels pretty natural IMHO.

Overall verdict: worth every penny. go get it.

And the new graphics filter mask is pretty damn cool too.

All that matters is how easy it is to obtain the platinum! ;)

Screen protector is necessary on the Vita. It's weird that the rest if your is not scratched yet (not even back touch pad??), but you better not try your luck. Vita's screen is not scratch-resistant.

Hotline Miami's really fun, I love the whole concept of how it plays, find the enemys layout and plan out how you're going to kill them accordingly without getting hit/dying. Well worth the $11.70 I paid.

I'm glad I waited rather than deciding to get the PS3 version, I'd rather play the Vita remake. Heres hoping it gets localised.

I haven't used a screen protector on my Vita (bought it around a year ago) and there's no scratches on mine, but I don't take it out too often so that might explain why it hasn't got any scratches yet.

I've never used one and my screen is perfect.

I just put it in a case when i'm done. Case is better than a screen protector because then I don't have to look at my screen through a screen protector when I play.

Really? From what this video shows, it's not that bad.

Never used one and my screen is still flawless! I don't travel much with it, though.

That means I'm bad at looking after my PS VITA. I have it since launch and so far I have a few scratches here and there on the screen. They aren't too noticeable but still irritates me a bit.

Though I use my VITA quite a lot and take it pretty much everywhere I go so that might be the case.

Also no screen protector here. I do keep it in a case sometimes but otherwise it just sits on my desk. If I bring it with me anywhere its always in the case, not my pocket... but so far not one scratch.

I think if you plan to throw it in your pocket, its a great idea. If you mostly play at home, it isn't necessary.

I'm gonna read this thread a lot and try to contribute. I try and keep up on Vita releases and news like crazy, shake off the stigma, and it's the one thing I decided to start collecting games for again so I've gone dumb spending money on it since I got one about a month after launch.

Digital.

I haven't noticed input lag on anything besides double jumps in jak 1 which makes me think it's not input lag at all but instead just a shoddy or glitched timing window. But either way the result is the same in that double jumps, only on certain levels, can be weird.

Honestly the things that make these games difficult have little to do with the vita. The camera sucks, which is a ps2 era holdover. The checkpoints also suck.

Though in terms of player control the smaller stick does make jak a bit harder to finesse. It's not a deal breaker though.

The ps3 version is obviously the definitive version but the vita versions are quite playable despite a few quirks.

Yeah, when I started playing Jak & Daxter last week I was like "this is sooo PS2"

Enjoying it, despite the games aging way less gracefully than I thought they had, but agreed that the only real issues with the collection is outdated game design.

I'm playing on physical release. If I can get a game on physical release I will. Picked up Dokuro, New Little King's Story and Epic Mickey 2 imports just to have 'em, and to free up memory card space for two of them that I already bought digitally, before coming to my senses.

I've had mine since day one and there's not a single scratch on the screen, despite the fact that I've never used a screen protector. That said, I've always been gentle with it and it's always in a reliable case when I'm traveling with it; in other words, if you're not planning to be gentle with it, def. get a screen protector b/c it wouldn't take much to scratch dat OLED.

Thanks for posting these! I'm actually interested in Jak 3, and it looks like the framerate isn't too bad (aka. not "Full Frontal Assault" bad). Looks like the IQ is decent, too.

I'd definitely go with the official screen protector. Never had more, consistent luck at flawlessly applying one to anything.

that plastic scratches easier than you'd think

don't risk it. these modern devices screens scratch way more easily than you think. i learned my lesson when i got my first ipad... now i never not get a screen protector.

I always get a little giddy when i see a new scratch on the protectors - because i know then that i just save my pristine screen one more time.

edit: you can get by without one...just gotta be wary handling it and what you carry it in / with it.

like don't keep coins, keys, pretty much anything metal in the same pocket or bag with it.

I have the Hori full face protector on mine. So easy to apply.
