Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Mewtwo had a unique moveset and it didn't stop the swing of the axe. And Mewtwo didn't come with any legal mumbo jumbo or potential negative promotion. Again, I understand why people would want him back, but his moveset can be gifted to someone else fairly easily. Advance Wars would be a great fit, I liked that idea as soon as I read it on this forum, a cut and suture all in one.

Mewtwo's moveset was modified to fit lucario. They're not identical, but I thought it was pretty obvious that he was inspired by mewtwo's moveset. If we lost any characters this time, I expect their unique gameplay will be transposed and 'evolved' on to a new character. Snake's moves being put on an advance wars character makes sense, so does Ike's moves being transposed onto Magnus from Kid Icarus uprising. Just tweak the visuals, change a move or two, etc, and you can keep that character's uniqueness while keeping them up to date. Also,I'd like to Make zelda unique, and transpose shiek's moveset onto Skyward sword Impa.

... since when has Fox had a Flash Kick? I'm not a big Fox player by any stretch, but is this a new move for him?

Erm what? The only similar thing they have is the charge B move.

Mewtwo was supposed to be in Brawl but time constraints and Sonic got him chopped. I imagine Mewtwo would end up around with Wolf, Jiggs and Toon Link.

This is why I think this would be easier to do with Snake. All of his 'unique' moves are weapon based which could be easily duplicated and given to an appropriate character that fits the theme. Mewtwo has a moveset that is harder gift to someone else, his moves are all pretty unique, there was no one really like him in Brawl, and I don't know who could inherit his moves. Lucario certainly didn't. The only similar moves between them were their forward smashes and neutral specials.

Maybe Mewtwo can inherit Snake's moves?

I always wanted Little Mac, but I thought about it the other day and reached the conclusion he would probably be a boring character. I mean he just... punches. All his attacks would be different punches, it doesn't sound very exciting, unless they go the funny route and add some stuff like having Doc run over people riding his bike or throwing chocolates or something.

Oh if only you knew.

You gotta explain that one to me. Having Snake in Smash makes negative promotion how? Because MGS5 is not gonna be on Wii U?

Nintendo owns the majority of the Pokemon IP.

Yes. Why should they advertise other consoles? It's not like sales will nosedive if G.I. Joe gets the boot. Put that effort into a mutually beneficial character, someone that will actually make sense to the brand. Kojima can play as Luigi when he loses to his kid instead of Snake.

Actually, Pokemon characters are tied to the Pokemon company, and Sakurai has to work with them and their planned marketing, movies and anime in order to choose characters for Smash. It's likely not as troublesome as actual third party characters, but Pokemon aren't as easily included as Nintendo's other characters.

Speaking of 3rd party characters, am I the only one that wants Bomberman?

I would love Bomberman, but the guy is dead. :(

Konami is now a MGS company with Castlevania Lords of Shadow every now and then.

Before I would have not minded the MGS focus, but now it is just getting tiring since the gameplay felt so weak in MGS4.

Bomberman is a Konami owned character that makes more sense than Snake. He doesn't have the same star power though, but I wouldn't mind seeing him.

They can always give him the special moves of the other boxers he faces in his game.

All Balrog does is punch, and there's enough variance there to keep him entertaining. I think Sakurai could give Mac enough of his magical Sakurai "dance" to make him an absolute joy to play.

Nintendo owns the majority of the Pokemon company, and they do like to give them some autonomy, but I think that it is exaggerated overall. I am sure Sakurai could do whatever he wanted if push came to shove.

Don't forget that Little Mac could have star punches or even get stars from other characters. He could be really cool. There is no other 'puncher' on the roster, that alone would make him interesting, he would stand out well.

The variety needed in a SF game isn't comparable to what's needed in a SSB. They can make it work for sure, but they'll need to take a lot of liberties. I guess a simpler character could be refreshing though.

All captain falcon does is drive a car... yet they gave him an entire moveset.

Because he didn't have any fighting moves prior to SSB. If we're following your logic, let's just give Mac a machine gun, magic and a knife.

Mac is tough. You can't run around New York in the 1980's in a pink sweat suit without being able to pull the trigger and stab some faces.

So since we cycled back to the Boxing Ring being based on Dedede yes it is no it isn't conversation I slapped together some of Dedede's rings throughout the years.

Dream Land:

Pinball Land:

Super Star:

Super Star Ultra:

(The background looping on this one is inaccurate but it's pretty close)

And the boxing ring from SSB4:

The only real comparison you can draw between the two is that they're boxing rings, and it's not like there's a whole lot of liberties you can take with that. Dedede's always feature his trademark peace sign all over the place, when they can.

o.O I'm just saying they can improvise a bit, not that they should change how he works. Just because little mac only punches/dodges/uses star punches, doesn't mean you can't add stuff like counterattacks, dashes, Jumping Uppercuts, etc.

If Little Mac is back he better have his Punch Out Wii face rather than the Brawl face. He looked far to grumpy.

In fact, I actually think it's a miracle that we got Smash Bros. and all the Nintendo characters to work together in the first place. Especially when you bring Pokemon into the mix and a lot of the complications that are caused by that being an almost completely different entity on its own, it's really something.

In the last game, when we added Sonic and Snake, there were lots of different hoops to jump through as far as getting approvals and making sure all the parties involved were happy with the way things went. You can consider it a very special circumstance for that to happen," Sakurai said. "Even in cases like adding Pokemon characters, there are a lot of parties involved and there’s a lot of wrangling. It’s much tougher than people can imagine.

Dudley might be an even better example; he has a Shoryuken-esque move that Balrog doesn't, as well as things like Cross Counter or Corkscrew Cross to mix things up a smidgen.

Yeah that's probably what they'll end up doing if they included him.

Four ropes + human audience = Punch-Out!!
Three ropes + cutesy audience = Kirby

It's either a Punch-Out!! stage or a generic Smash Bros. one.

If we do indeed get Little Mac, it'll be a little easier to swallow the possibility that Simon won't be in the game. I just want Mac to be really fun and simple to play as. He's the best choice from Nintendo's roster IMO.

Having a generic smash bros. stage set in a ring feels like a really weird choice to me. Since most of the fighters are fantasy-like characters, something so rooted in reality like a ring with normal human audience doesn't fit imo. Specially seeing how the art direction is for the regular battlefield.

Also it really looks like the ring from Wii's Puch Out.

The ring is extremely similar to the Major Circuit ring in Punch Out!! Wii. The Major Circuit ring in the World Circuit arena, to attempt to be exact.

Blue Canvas with padded turnbuckles.

Pyrotechnics in the corners of the stadium.

The visible support beams on the roof and laser displays.

Blue rope on the top, two white ropes in the middle, and red on the bottom.

If you haven't played PO!! Wii you should play it, and you will understand why some are convinced that it is a PO!! ring. You should play it regardless, it's good stuff!

I wonder if Next Level is working on SUper Punch-Out!!. It'd be really hard to top the previous game, as it essentially used the formula perfectly and bound an entry to the series with very few flaws, but I know they'd be able to find new ideas for a sequel. And it would hopefully use the Balance Board again! How nice and refreshing it was for a super-core game to use the BB in such a fitting way. :D

NL should do another Nintendo franchise before they return to PO. Give it time to get in our rear view mirror.

So I'm guessing you know nothing about Boxing or you've never played a game like SF where boxers are part of the roster? Boxing has a lot of stuff in which you could possibly make a moveset out of for Little Mac, if you were to include some attacks from his classic opponents that would only increase his potential.

He could easily have his Star Uppercut as an Up B, a "rocket punch" as a side B, maybe a dempsey roll as a counter for a down B. There's a lot of stuff he could do.

For his entrance he should jog onto the stage wearing the classic pink tracksuit.

Little Mac does have a chance to be in the roster this time. The boxing ring stage in the demo, having him as an assist trophy in Brawl, the Wii Punch-Out! game... Everything should count towards his inclusion... right? :(

Remember when Animal Crossing was guaranteed to have a character in Brawl because it had a stage with its own logo?

The variety needed in a SF game isn't comparable to what's needed in a SSB. They can make it work for sure, but they'll need to take a lot of liberties. I guess a simpler character could be refreshing though.

A character in SSB doesn't need the detailed moveset a SF character does. I don't think they'll have any problem making him unique, even if he's all punches. I don't think he will be, but I think he could be and still feel plenty varied.

The ring stage sure as heck looks like it could be based off of Punch-Out!!, but I have to wonder why they'd change the center logo to a Smash Bros. one instead of keeping it as it was in Punch-Out!! Wii. No other stage in the franchise had a "genericization" treatment like that.

The only thing I can think of is if they changed the stage for preview purposes and in the final product it will have the Punch-Out!! motif, but it would seem odd to make a new graphic just for that, and I can't think of where else they would use the ring's Smash Bros. logo.

The logo in the center changes depends on the circuit, this could easily be "Smash Circuit"
