So Level Up just got sponsored by Benq. They are switching from Asus VH236 Monitors to Benq RL2455HM monitors at WNF, The Runback and other Tournaments ran by Level Up.

We tried the monitor out last night on one of pool setups for AE and I gotta say I really liked it. It seems much brighter and a little sharper than the VH236 to me. We'll be replacing all the monitors next week at WNF and TRB next week. If this monitor gets good reception from players in SoCal I wonder if it has the potential to become a new standard monitor now that the VH236 is no longer manufactured.

How are they for lag?

BenQ provides the monitors for MLG events, they are display lag-free (or at least good enough to not matter, aka < or = 8ms display lag). If ASUS isn't gung-ho about possible sponsorship BenQ is gonna start selling us a lot of monitors a la mad catz coupon codes very soon.

How are they for lag?

Most of the people who played on it said the lag felt the same as the Asus monitors. A couple players said it felt more lagey, but Valle was saying it only feels like that because the screen is larger so it's making them feel like it's lagging more when it's not. I think we'll have bigger consensus after people play Marvel on it tonight.

Yipes has a huge chance of being randomed out by matchups he just isn't prepared for. I don't see him in Top 8. Top 16 max. I don't think he hates the game as much as people say, he hates the game as much as everyone else does that still plays it religiously. And he just hasn't been doing much because obviously his wedding is coming up and now he's set (at least temporarily) because of the VxG thing.

I couldn't predict EVO 2011 or EVO 2012 and there's no way I'll be able to pick EVO 2013 Top 8. There are always wildcards. All I can say is Chris G, Justin Wong and FChamp will be there. Flocker maybe too, but he has a greater chance of being randomed out than those three.

do you remember the last time this happened

I had no idea Yipes was getting married so soon. That kinda changes the perspective I've had on him this year completely lol

I sure hope so. Papa needs a lag free monitor. Found out my plasma has 30ms of lag and that the game mode doesn't actually do anything :(

The BenQ monitor seems to be priced at $200 right now, while the asus VH238H after a $20 rebate is at $130. Hopefully the competition will end in a better product with a low price for us (well, you guys who still play and for my son soon) :D

You do this to yourself, you know. Your foolish dedication to regions is going to break your heart again and again and again.

I won't call all 8 players because the 2nd tier pool is too huge.

But here's my predictions:

  1. FChamp
  2. Flocker
3rd or 4th: Chris G
5th: Justin Wong if he still cares
wildcard 7th: Marn if he practices
9th-13th: Clockw0rk

the sad part is that ive gotten 9th at least 4-5 times at EVO. 9th place is the worst

Why's it gotta be like that? He just needs a hero!

AJ said they'll be doing a promo code soon for it so it should close the gap a little bit.

Hey man, I was just watching that team match video with you and Angelic vs. Alukard and RayRay (http://shoryuken.com/2013/06/26/btc...e-marvel-vs-capcom-3-team-exhibition-footage/). At 9:27 you did what looks like a "random" Ragnarok against RayRay's Ryu, but when I saw that I immediately thought you were making a read that he'd go for an invincible shoryu on defense that would get caught by your level 3. It didn't land, but it still struck me as a really smart guess. Is that what you were actually thinking?

BTW I think you could definitely make EVO top 8 if you picked a team with more synergy. Obviously Doom/Ammy is great, but Ammy/Strider don't really have a lot of synergy and you don't have immediate access to Doom TAC's when you're not running him second. I think your team probably just needs to drop Strider and start with a really strong point character. MarlinPie obviously does that with Viper, and Strider is your boy, but every time it comes down to Ammy and Strider I just think having your team break down to that combo is a problem. Your Vergil team is probably the answer but I can tell you don't like playing him as much as Ammy.

After seeing the giant budget that the Skullgirls IGG required I really hope the devs aren't shorting themselves any cash. I mean the highest tier is only $2,500 more than the next highest and includes round-trip airfare, a CM84 ticket, and three days of hotel lodging, which pretty much wipes out that amount.

I'm not their bookkeeper, but in comparing them to Skullgirls, remember that their technical requirements are much, much lower. Yatagarasu runs at a much lower resolution, has a much less technically/visually complicated engine, has a much lower quantity of unique frames to create, and isn't being released on MS or Sony's platforms, meaning the costs of doing business there are avoided.

WANTED: GAF volunteer needed for EVO bathroom monitoring

Saltaybets might pay someone to do it, after all

Why did instant replays go away in fighting game streams, btw? They still exist in other e-sports, but they went away real fast in the FGC.
If I remember correctly, it was because the equipment/software/whatever they used to do replays is quite expensive and puts a huge load on the resources of the stream set-up. LevelUp streams tried to use a telestrator for a while but had to stop for mostly the same reasons, I think.

Or maybe it was just because there wasn't enough time between matches to do a proper analysis. Who knows, really....

Didnt spooky have it set up too? I think he stopped after his stuff got jacked by homeland security

It's unfortunate, but a lot of the time commentators didn't have much to say in the first place. You need smart, interesting people for instant replay to matter much to the viewers. At summer jam last year when Yipes beat Chris G in GF, Skisonic and DJ Huoshen (who seem like very nice people, not trying to badmouth them), were missing some really big important things during the match (didn't realize Yipes was snapping to keep momentum when missiles were on their way down, etc.). I don't think even on an instant replay, they would've been able to enlighten the viewer very much since they didn't understand what was happening themselves. It's kind of crazy that they missed a lot of important stuff while Ultradavid broke it down cleanly later, despite it being a game he didn't even play at the time (AFAIK).

He uses it sometimes when something extra crazy happens on stream, but I think Sp00ky doesn't use it often because it takes another person (like how Level|Up uses it or iPWxSp00ky do).

It is kinda strange how everyone began using it less though. I guess it takes a lot of work, but I definitely think replays (with knowledgeable commentators) + general presentation value improvement is what the FGC needs to go in on to try and break through. A lot of great strides recently with the stuff SCR/Aftershock/Gootecks/Sp00ky are doing though.

Most of the commentary I've seen for replays has been along the lines of "oh shit, we have replays now? This is crazy!"

When streams were doing them it was pretty cool though.

I was so bored today that i watched some Guilty Gear vids.
