Fighting Games Weekly | July 1-7 | Heel turns, shattered dreams, broken cages

So I went into Gamestop today with my $5 off used games coupon I had lying around to get Continuum Shift Extend for PS3. They didn't have it, just 360 and Vita. So I snagged the Vita version, so now I'm used to (read, used to, not good) playing Guilty Gear it might help me get into BB a little more. That and for just $12 bucks it was kinda an easy pick-up.

Not sure if it's on Plus or not, and even if so I don't have it so it's not in the cards. That and I prefer owning carts of my Vita games instead of digital, unless they're digital only like GG is. The Dpad works great for me, better than the PS3's Dpad as I'm capable of pulling off Distortions that use 632146 on the Vita much better than on the PS3, and yeah the game looks great on the Vita's screen as well.

Some guy named bavobbr posted a breakdown of the country representation for SF4 at EVO in the comment section of the SRK article. I have no idea if this is a accurate breakdown though.

United States 1283
Canada 90
Japan 51
Mexico 38
Brazil 17
unknown 11
France 11
Britain 10
Chile 9
pe 8
Singapore 7
China 7
england 6
Australia 6
Korea 5
Germany 4
Taiwan 3
nl 3
gu 3
za 2
India 2
se 2
at 1
ml 1
be 1
sa 1
ma 1
dk 1
fi 1
aw 1
pa 1
pk 1
sv 1
Hong Kong 1
uk 1
bo 1
Arabian Emirates 1
gf 1
Russia 1
hn 1
im 1

So if this info is correct then that means of the 1601 competitors for SF4, 318 are foreigners. That's nearly 20% of the total participants. It'd be great to see a similar breakdown for all the other games just to see how much international presence they have.

Man. I wish people could block vergil mixups like greenace
Green Ace barely had a chance to block any true Dark Vergil mix ups, he dealt with the problem beforehand like you are supposed to. The mix ups that Dark Vergil does on incoming are equivalent to the mix ups that Dark Phoenix does, a multi tiered 50/50 that you have a low chance of getting out of. Justin Wong has some of the best blocking in the business and he got hit twice by that mix up in a row. Its what makes the character so dangerous.

Also Apologyman said he was quiting Marvel after EVO as well but he's doing it because new BB is coming out.

So... that was a fun set, Joule. I could tell my loltastic Anji would get read like a book. I'm very predictable lol.
I blame that more on the character he really only has a few viable mix ups and options.

I feel this way about almost every character though Ky spoils you, this is also why I find it hard to enjoy other fighters as much as GG. Ky is pretty much the perfect fighting game character.

I just kept smashing my head against the wall until I got the wins. You should have seen how many times I went with butterfly and that hard jumping overhead.

He is simple, but really crude compared to the rest of the cast. Ky is simple, but really open ended in comparison.
But you still beat me so badly! I'll need to do some adjustments for next time. A bit frustrating not getting frcs when I wanted. I suck D:
At first, but eventually you caught on to my gimmicks and getting those wins wasn't as easy. I'm terribad at air grabs in this game. I thought I was the one who'd get their ass whooped tbh.

I've got $15 of gamestop credit and am eyeing either skull girls or sf3 third strike, do either of these still have a good online community? Also, I'm guessing sf3 has grapple characters...does skull girls? I honestly don't know a super lot about the game....anything to the likes of gief/ t hawk/ grundy?

I've never fought an Anji like ever so it was a lot of "so what do I do now?" on defense.

Backdash :lol

Ky can get out of some of eddies unblockable set ups with a good backdash too, I mean you still get hit but he cant really convert off it hooray for having a funky drop speed

SG is younger, but Third Strike is more popular so you'd probably get just a little less than SG would. Online is going to be very busy for SG in the future, though. There are five new characters on the way so the online scene is going to be very active from now on.

Third Strike has Alex who is pretty cool and SG has Cerebella who is pretty much the ultimate grappler.

Your backdashes were on point. You didn't play around there at all.

Also, the only Kys I've ever fought were you and Q. I can say with complete confidence that I've fought about a dozen people in this game... and half of them were test runs that ended horribly in this version's online at first.

Apologyman has improved his neutral game a lot with Firebrand but he still struggles with the same thing he always has in Marvel... dealing with unconventional characters.
