Can anyone explain to me how the Melee intro didn't completely destroy the size argument ages ago? Same with NES Ridley.
If Ridley gets in I hope to God that they don't use his Other M model.

I could see Ridley fitting in what with Charizard being a thing.
That said I'm pretty surprised how widely popular the notion of him being in Smash Bros truly is. I never thought he'd be that much of a sought out character. I can understand it on the virtue of there not being any other good Metroid reps.
I swear I saw the same Ridley debates over at gamefaqs when Brawl was announced. It's good to see somethings never change.
We have just over 300 responses so far in case anyone was wondering
Wow. Surveymonkey is only letting me see the results of the first 100 responses. Well at least it's a decent sample size. I will be posting the results shortly

I wonder if they'll try to pull a UMVC3 Spencer with Samus. Use the design everyone hates, then make the good one DLC.Fucking this. But Samus is her Other M model which doesn't fill me with hope. Of course this could be avoided if they add alts.

Basically a lot of "it's early in development...really early"
On the topic of the roster, Sakurai noted that the 3DS version of the game, with its hardware’s technical limitations, would likely keep the volume of the roster in check, though no characters had been cut so far, and any determination to that effect is a ways away. Which characters ultimately are included will be the result of careful consideration, ranging from which fighters have unique characteristics, equally representing franchises and how signature traits carry over well from previous games like Brawl. Sakurai did tell me that “multiple character” combatants like the Ice Climbers were proving a technical challenge on the 3DS.
“We’re planning for a level of customization to some degree and in some form,” Sakurai acknowledged. “It’s not completely decided at this point. But it’s very important to point out that we do this in a careful way that doesn’t affect the strength and balance of the characters. One thing we’d like to do is to be able to customize the direction of attacks. But not give characters a stronger jump or a stronger or weaker attack. You can consider customizations like that possible.”
I know people love Ridley, and if he makes it into the game that's great. But as a fan of metroid, all the possible ways I can think of that he could be incorporated as a character don't sound particularly appealing.
If he's shrunk, that kind of takes away his imposing nature. If he's still big, that just looks weird. I'm just skeptical that he could be done well, but this series has surprised me before.
I still want Issac, but I think that ship has sailed, honestly. Would have made sense 5 years ago, but now I think it'd lack relevance.

I'm wondering if Sakurai said Ice Climbers, but now we have a clear idea of what the problems are with the 3DS version.

CG Ridley is the best.
Sakurai also elaborated on single-player plans this time around. Would something like Subspace Emissary return? At the very least, were thinking of maybe not implementing that sort of single-player experience like Subspace Emissary, where you play through to a conclusion and youre rewarded with something like a movie, Sakurai said. We found that if you wanted to see those movies, you could just go to the internet. That sort of thing loses its appeal as a reward for the player. I cant say concretely, but were thinking about removing that sort of element and coming up with a way to provide a more rewarding single-player experience in which players will be rewarded in different ways.
I'm concerned about Ice Climbers, Olimar and futuer characters that might lose their potential movesets.
I guess Sakurai felt that the reward of completing the single player are the little short movies and since they can easily be accessed on the internet, they weren't really a reward. I can now somewhat see his reasoning behind his decision. Hope he puts a single player mode with a rewarding experience.
I think they can modify Olimar so the Pikmin don't follow him. It would be easy to assign different Pikmin to different attacks.
Judging from the interview, I'm going to guess that a lot of the clone characters are getting cut.On the topic of the roster, Sakurai noted that the 3DS version of the game, with its hardwares technical limitations, would likely keep the volume of the roster in check, though no characters had been cut so far, and any determination to that effect is a ways away. That feeling about the Smash Bros. games still being very early in development seeped into every aspect of my conversation. Sakurai addressed every topic only with theoretical ideas, and few specifics. In the case of improving and adjusting the games online functionality, Sakurai noted that Nintendo had significantly updated its network, forming a good base for what were going to do. Still, the creative director couldnt get into specific implementation details, though he did note his team has no plans for any sort of world ranking system. We dont want to have a type of situation where you have a ranking pyramid, and only the people at the very top can enjoy it. I think there are other unique ways to be able to implement a system where people can get satisfaction out of performing at a skill level relative to their peer group.

I hope they bring back the Target smash minigame for each individual character as opposed to the 5 plain levels for everyone that was in Brawl. It was great having levels tuned specifically to each character and it helped show the player all of the range and individual moves of each character in a fun manner.
This isn't the first time we've heard this. Why does Nintendo think any kind of leaderboard means that other players cease having fun? Does Nintendo think a leaderboard is an OS-level application that pops up and tells players they suck when they turn on the Wii U?
I might've actually bought Nintendo Land if it had online, as the arcade nature of the games fits it well. It's a shame that even a more progressive employee like Sakurai is still as backwards as the rest of Nintendo when it comes to online.
I'm guessing it's a storage space issues. 3DS version of Smash Bros. will be the first Smash game since the Nintendo 64 game to not have disc based storage, which will probably mean the 3DS version won't have as many collectibles as the console version either.Isn't the 3DS as powerful as a Gamecube?

It has as much space as brawl did. Brawl could have fit a good bit more playable characters on to it's disk.
3DS anchor preventing the Wii U from exploring vast oceans.
I saw with the 3DS that it would be good for one flavor of the game, but there was also the other end, getting the grand scale what was possible with the Wii U. So with that in mind, we decided to go ahead and put the game on two platforms.”

Didn't they say they threw more money at Retro to basically just improve the fur. Kind of not surprising it has the better looking fur of the two.I really don't like his fur. I much prefer his model from Tropical freeze.
This is more of Sakurai's belief than Nintendo.
MK has leader boards, and so does a few other games from Nintendo. While Sakurai has said over and over he doesn't want them in Smash Bros.
Standard is 2GB, though I recall they upped it to 4GB for certain games.

Not sure if you saw my edit, but I corrected myself to state that the limit was upped to 8GBs. Standard tends to be 2GB, but the range is from 1 to 8GB.Thank you! I hope Smash is one of those games. I can live with less trophies and a less expansive single player mode if they manage to get a really interesting roster both in casting and in length.
Too bad they couldn't store a bit more data, but I guess it would cut too much profit of the game if it was sold at 40.
Only for the roster, which I never expected to be that big anyways given Sakurai's comments back in 2011.
The Wii U can go nuts on everything else:
Pony up fellas, looks like I win the roster challenge.
♪
I'm sure this has been said, but I'm really surprised at how awful this looks graphically, considering Melee and Brawl looked so solid for their respective hardware.
So he's basically saying there is a possibility for the 3DS version to not get the full roster if there are technical barriers that arise down the road?

Sounds more like any holdback the 3ds goes through will affect the wii u version.

Considering the amount of content, I'm gonna assume they're gonna go with a 8GB cart, perhaps a 4GB at the least.
