Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Yes, it's controversial here.

I played the demo and didn't care much for it but I probably shouldn't judge by a mere demo.

I think I played it up until Chapter 5 waiting for the greatness that everyone says the game is and I just decided to just stop torturing myself and stop playing it cos I didn't find the game fun.

Nintendo makes kids games. I loved Ninty when I was a kid but as consoles and games matured Nintendo seems content to keep video games in the toy ghetto.

Also, the notion that the way we control video games needs more bells and whistles is ridic.

Lastly, the Wii U is most certainly not a next gen console. At all. A fancy new controller does not next gen make.

That felt really good.

The Last of Us is so overrated, I'm 80% in, it's "just good", it is not close to my game of the generation, not even game of the year. and I don't see why I would replay it ever again once I'm done.

Yep, right there with you. Not even close to one of the best games I've ever played.

Sure I enjoyed the ride, but nothing groundbreaking.

Replaying GTA IV after not playing it since launch, this particular issue is so overblown. I've logged 12 hours in the game, and been called 6 times by people. Each time, I accept. Then call them right back and cancel, no karma loss, no anger. It takes under 10 seconds and can easily be done while driving.

Today I learned....

Actually, I'll take this a step further: Super Castlevania 4 is worse than Castlevania, Castlevania III, Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood, and X68000 Castlevania (Original mode in Chronicles).
I love Castlevania but while Castlevania IV was good, it was way overrated. I liked Castlevania II: Simon's Quest a lot better and most of all, I love the Iga Castlevania games the most. Symphony of the Night is still one of the best games ever made and all the Iga portable games like the Sorrow one's after that. Amazing games. While he may have not been the progenitor of the series, Iga was the best! He managed to take Castlevania and mold it into something above and beyond.

Uncharted 2 is the worst game in the series.
A Link to the Past is very overrated, it's definitely not the best 2D Zelda game. Not even close.
I thought Wind Waker, Final Fantasy X, and Kingdom Hearts were disappointing letdowns.
Resistance (the original) is better than any Halo game I've played. Killzone 2 and 3 as well.

There is no such thing as a good 3d Zelda (qualifer: I have never played Majoras Mask).

TLOU is severely hindered by its awful IQ and absurdly bad framerate.

Zelda 2 is the best Zelda game ever made.

Mass Effect 3 was the best in the series, because the multiplayer was considerably better than the single player (unlock system in it wasn't great, though). The setting and backdrop of those games is great, but the main story was fucking terrible.

I'm replaying this at the moment, and while at the time it was a bit disappointing for me, the game holds up extremely well. I would go as far to say that it is actually, one of the best FF games.

The fact that every member of your party has an actual role to play (except maybe Kimhari) makes the world of difference, as you can swap your battle party around in combat. The system is very good, and the game has some serious depth to it, including massive, massive side quests, hidden Aeons, and excessive customisation.

I hated the voice acting at the time, as it damaged my experience of the game. It is still pretty shitty to be honest, but the characters are relateable and understandable, so it can be forgiven.

Take another look at it if you have not played it for many years. I think you will be surprised.

It's a love and hate thing for me with that game.
I hate the characters and the story. I hate that it's very linear. I remember about 13 hours in or something I was taking my party down to a beach to fight Syn and it was just screen after screen of "run to the right". People bitch about XIII being a corridor experience for the first 20 hours, but I remember most of FFX being the same way. Maybe it got a pass because it had towns.
I also loathe blitzball. It might be the worst minigame I've ever played in the FF series.
All of that said, I do like Lulu (and to a lesser extent Rikku is tolerable). The sphere grid is amazing and the hot swap during battle was really cool.

I plan on giving the game another shot on Vita when the HD collection comes out over here, especially if it's the international version.

Legend of Dragoon is a fairly average RPG.

You're being kind.
Let's add this to my list:

I hated Legend of Dragoon.

I think AC1 is better than AC2.

Help me. :(

I agree with you.

99% certain it is confirmed as international version. I live in PAL land, so it is all I have ever played. It is very linear up to the calm lands, which is about 20-25 hours in, similar to XIII in that regard, but not quite so enclosed, you have more freedom to travel back and forth between places.

Blitzball is ass, agreed. I have only touched the one mandatory game on my current playthrough, but there are plenty of other things to do, so you can ignore it completely unless you want more reels for Wakka's overdrive, which isn't really needed.

Didn't really dig it until playing the PSP remake though. I like battle systems that go beyond just killing monsters. Upping stats was kinda addictive in an odd little way. This post gave me a good chuckle tho

Yeah, I don't really hate FF2. It's just such a weird little game, reminds me I should play more of the SaGa games. Unlimited put me off them.

I wish people actually gave some context or explanation for their opinions, at least ones that go outside of more general statements such as "I don't think a game can be considered the greatest so quickly". Everyone has their own opinion but when you say some of the most respected games are shit or whatever adjective chosen it's probably best to give some reasoning. Otherwise it often comes off as silly.

My most controversial opinions:
- Final Fantasy XII is hands down the best Final Fantasy
- Nobuo Uematsu, while a decent composer, isn't as good as everyone makes him out to be. Sugiyama, Sakimoto, Iwata, Kondo, and many others are all better
- Final Fantasy X is a garbage game and feels more like a tech demo for the PS2 than an actual game.
- Mario Sunshine is a better game than Mario 64.

Final Fantasy XIII was more fun than XII. FYI, I was pretty disappointed by both. I prefer XIII though because it's a little less tedious than XII. You play this automated battle system (way more automated than XIII) and trudge through hours of meaningless, repetitive encounters. Yes, you aren't in hallways, but vast, open wastelands are no better. By the time you reach your destination you could care less about whatever new "story" development the game has. The characters are about as bland as the cast of FFII on the Famicom, and even Balthier is overrated.

However, I would love a remake of XII. The IZJS version addresses a lot of my complaints. If they were able to fix the story/pacing problems and make the world more interesting (meaningful interactions in town, give NPCs more character, etc.), it'd be one of my favorite FFs.

Alright, things like "All AAA releases suck!" are kind of preaching to the choir so if I was all like "Bioshock Infinite was entertaining enough but not the gem of story telling people make it out to be" that may make people give me the stink eye IRL and maybe in freaking Reddit but saying thing's like that is dime a dozen in a place full of people that have regularly played video games for years. So whatever I say has to be unpopular for those people.

Alright, mine's this:

JRPGs don't have that good of a story but are perfectly capable of exploring interesting concepts and characters in clever and even intelligent ways.

One gen ago, that made me an asshole xenophobe and now that Bioware and Bethesda are all the rage, it makes me an insufferable weeaboo, so that shows you that to piss the internet off forever all you need is a moderate opinion.

PS: all people saying Demons' Souls was better than Dark Souls just want hipster nerd cred.
PSS: speaking of Dark Souls: that's the only Sakuraba soundtrack that doesn't overall suck, and that's because he practically wrote it trying as hard as he could to sound unlike himself.

-The only thing good about mass effect is the characters except the jersey shore guy-lackluster gameplay, terrible cover/shooting mechnics, story that falls flat bigtime, linear levels, not much customization, repetitive, expensive Dlc that not worth your time, hostile forums run by crazy overlords to silence dissent, etc

-Not Really controversial but the Wii U is not a next gen console more like a late current gen system with inferior support, etc.....and Mario and Zelda are played out..time for new Ips.

- Borderlands series is boring....but it would be cool if they gave you a 3rd person option.

- Ubisoft ruins great games over time

- The assassin's creed games are stale and lifeless

- Hitman Absolution was a pretty good game/ disappointing for blood money fans but still a really good game.

- GTA 4 is a good game and if anyone says anything other than it being less than average they're crazy.

-The saints row series will always be inferior to GTA and Saints Row 3 and 4 have proven that once again ...but I like their games

- If your game doesn't sell much Too Bad...unless its really good than that sucks

- Linear/ short (under 10 hours) games should not be 60 bucks

The less console manufacturers the better for gaming.

One of the great axioms of the consumer world is that competition breeds innovation and is better for the consumer. This is often true...and therein is the issue as 'often' does not equal 'always'. With gaming the dictum becomes the lie.

When Sony was stomping holes in competitors with the PS2 they never ceased to innovate. They never stopped pushing. What they lacked was superior hardware. Were companies able to focus on fewer more capable consoles they could marshal resources. We would also be free from the dreaded specter of console parity. Dumbing down multiplatform games in the name of equality so as not to offend any potential buyer.

I would rather see one console pushed to the limits rather than two pushed halfway. Let the game developers fight it out rather than the hardware companies.

I will add one other thought concerning gaming. So called journalists have become the worst thing for the game industry. We as the target demographic would be better served were developers to speak directly via their own forum and youtube channels instead of allowing the worst trash in the world to interject themselves into our hobby. In a relentless quest for ego fulfillment they ruin everything. Their sense, or lack thereof, that they know what is best for us is maddening and it is high time these roaches were stepped on.

PS: all people saying Demons' Souls was better than Dark Souls just want hipster nerd cred.

Not necessarily. Both are pretty damn great, IMO. One of my favorite new IPs of this generation and I'm waiting anxiously for Dark Souls II.

Demon's Souls to Dark Souls was kind of like Arkham Asylum to Arkham City. There's a lot of common themes and gameplay, but at the same time, they are very different entities. There's reasons one could prefer one to the other and they're all valid.

That said, fuck pure bladestone. Fuck it to hell. And back.

FFIV is the best SNES era FF game.

Bioshock Infinite is mine.

What a disjointed mess of a dull experience that was. It's pretty. That's about the only positive thing I can say about it. The combat isn't fun at all and its maddeningly repetitive. None of its grand ideas are fleshed out in any cohesive or satisfying way.

The batman games are very mediocre games and the only reason they do so well is because they have the batman name and world.

I agree with this, with the addition of the fact that there is NO professionalism in gaming journalism. They report as if they're working for a college newspaper.

The Mirror's Edge campaign isn't great, but the mechanics of running and jumping are. That why a sequel has so much potential. Time Trials were the best part of the original.

I love almost every videogame on every platform and right now I'm playing:
Tomb Raider, awesome, I'm enjoying the MP too!
FTL ... really addictive!
I'm near to get the platinum for Bioshock Infinite and DmC (it's a fantastic game!).
Not to mention I cannot quit WipeOut HD+Rage and Rymdkapsel every now and then and the always enjoyable Professor Layton.

My only real controversial is against the Xbox One... does this count ?

The problem I have with Galaxy is just that Mario runs so damn slow. It's like playing 2D Mario with no run button. Far cry from 64 and Sunshine where you could rocket around levels like a ninja if you really knew what you were doing.

I think the trend of cinematic experiences is incredibly stupid, and some of the games and studios receiving heaps of praise from media and gamers alike are really untalented. They've just managed to perfect a formula of safe gameplay and artistic cutscenes that makes the final product seem more compelling than it actually is.

Also, I think Assassin's Creed would be a much better series if they just stuck to the assassin plots and got rid of Desmond and everything have to do with Templars and Animuses. It's unnecessary.
