Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail |OT| Can't Be As Bad As Kingdom Come or BP3

Just did a full listen on Youtube.

The bogus; It's a damn shame that some of the beats/songs I wanted more of were criminally short... 58 seconds for Beach, 54 seconds for Versus? Come on maaaan. And a few tracks are more beat than spit.

I would have prefered him take longer perfecting those bars (like on Heaven), than to deliver mostly slow trap-like lyrics.

The good: While it's true that finesse wise, 40 something Hov is far from Kendrick and the new blood, the lyrics are worlds better than "Hurry up with my damn croissants" in Yezus. Beat wise, it tap dances over Yezzys LP too (IMO), which alternates from techtronic to P-Diddy grandious in split seconds like a DJ with epilepsy. Actually, the production is the real star of the album. Hov is amazing on some tracks (and tired in others). Best post black album just beneith American Gangster, which was a legendary concept album and great storytelling.

man if i was trying to say positive stuff about this album, id stay far away from Yeezus

i mean even if you didn't like it, it makes this feel safe as houses

also let's not act like corny lines haven't been part of Ye's MO since jump

MCHG - Jay Z's Best Producer Friends feat. Jay Z on his Samsung Galaxy S3 (tm)

yup

Yup, agree with everything.

Would have thought there would be a Rihanna feature for a big single. Part II is pretty weak. BBC bumps.

Next album, Jay talks about his life as a coke dealer.

Everyone will call it a classic.

But I learned a few things, apparently Jay is tatted up and blows trees....

Who went and told these dudes that truncating their lyrics was the way to go? You're way passed "dumbed down to double my dollars," Jay.

I think the total is still in Ye's favor. And Wale debuted at #1 with 160,000 albums sold, only.

Yeezus is barely ahead of Born Sinner cumlatively. I give props to Wale pushing over 100k with no true mainstream hit. Then again Mac Miller also did over a 100k so I guess that's not too hard to achieve. Man I'm gonna make a mixtape and get a record deal if 100k is the new thing.

You can't really rap really densely over a lot of beats like these. They're too layered and bombastic. It's like trying to kill a Harry Fraud beat, you're not supposed to throw a jillion multisyllable type shits over those, you're just supposed to ride it. I'll agree that he came up short on the more traditional sounding tracks tho.

You say that until some mixtape ninja comes and bodies these beats.

well okay, we heard one of the best emcees in the game over them (Nas), and he stumbled all over himself. There might be some guys who could ride them with more swaggeur/less effort like a Future/2 chainz guy, but i expect most Joell Ortiz type rappity rap remixes of this stuff to be garbage.

Can only get better from the origin start point. /shrug

I am a big Wale fan but to be honest Bad is a huge hit on the radio.

I probably shouldn't judge this four beats in but I'm about ready to just listen to King. Even BP3 had better beats.

zzzZZZZzzzzzz

Where's all the dope shit from the trailer?? What a boring-ass way to start the album. I guess I can see why people dig Beach Is Better, as I guess by default it's better than this snoozeathon opening set of tracks.

I don't need someone to bust lyrical bombs all over these things. It's just, if you're going to lose some of the essence in what you've always been saying by trimming the bars, it's going to come off worse. He has no poignancy to his word play. Just speaking.

To be fair, I probably need to listen much more in order to find the "duality" shit he was pimping in those commercials, if it's there at all.

What @Trey said, and lmao at the duality talk.

And I'll be there to let you know it's still better than the original song. Even Tyga could probably ride the beat better than Jigga Man

TBH...I don't even listen to or know what's big on radio play. I assumed like a mofo. To give you an example of how much I listen to the radio...my car still has the same dealer preset radio stations when I bought it.

Heaven is the best track on the album. Tightest flow, solid lyrics, great beat
My biggest complaint is that he didnt bring what he brought to this track to the more conventional sounding stuff like Picasso Baby. Missed opportunity. He must have taken his Metamucil when he recorded that.

All right after having a shitty night at 2 clubs and finally sobering up imma try to listen to this

So the verdict so far is BP3-2?
