UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman |OT| God or Fraud

I think this is an easy Silva call. Those odds are probably the best you are going to get picking Silva for the rest of his career. Easy money if only I didn't live in the Barren North of Fight Gambling (aka Canada).

Weidman hasn't fought in a YEAR. His biggest win was against Future UFC Hall of Famer Mark "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" Munoz (who had previously beaten UFC greats like Chris Leben and Demian Maia).

He is going to get wrecked, apologize for ring rust, and fight Mark Munoz after Mark split decision-s Boetsch.

Americans:

I know this is the 4th Independence of July weekend and all, but please refrain from rooting for American hero army ranger Tim Kennedy, who was exposed as nothing more than a cowardly mook against the great Melvin Manhoef.

Let's not forget that the Maia win was a fucking sham. That was *at best* a draw. (I scored it for Maia.)

And, for what it's worth, Chris Leben was literally in the middle of a bender during that fight.

The only thing Anderson has done in the last year is fight a 205 lb. bum for a few minutes 9 months ago and duck Jon Jones.

Because.

He's fought better competition recently. It's not a huge gap though.

I love my German home boy but he is a bit more plotting, a bit "slower" and not as explosive.
He might get lucky but I also would think that Swanson has the edge here.

Demian Maia is a future UFC Welterweight champion and All-Time-Great, you scoundrel. Mark Munoz simply had the fortune of facing his twin brother Kayone Maia...it's a Canseco type situation.

But bro! He totally took the Maia fight on short notice and had no time to prepare properly. Even though he's a lhw cutting down to 185 fighting a jui jitsu guy who thinks he's Roy Jones Jr and now fights at 170.

Bookies are offering some interesting odds:

Silva is the -230 favorite at the LVH SuperBook, while Weidman is being offered at odds of +195.

Silva (33-4) is regarded by many MMA observers as the greatest fighter of all time. He’s held the middleweight belt for nearly seven years and has won 17 straight bouts

Oh, more:

Silva can be had for as low as -220 around Vegas, while underdog bettors can find Weidman for as nice a price as +215.

I'm starting to believe a particularly serpentine individual leaked news of a hib injury to the bookies and put a few million on himself, shameful shit.

More odds, maybe ill play, see how it changes day-to-day.

They opened Weidman at +165 in March and it quickly went as high as +300. Has slowly gotten closer since then. Most of the movement will happen after weigh-ins tomorrow.

This first page is going to be the stuff of legend. If Weidman wins we need a new thread with just quotes upon quotes of people ridiculing him.
And when Anderson squashes him you're all going to just pretend none of this happened and make Weidman a can retroactively and say Anderson still hasn't beaten anyone. The MMA-GAF Anderson Silva cycle.

Basically. It's become beyond embarassing at this point.

I think Weidman will pull it off, but with those odds you are crazy if you don't put money down on Andy.

I'm with you. Weidman is unbettable. Vegas looking to make out like bandits on an Anderson loss.

Not really. This is Anderson's chance to legitimize his fraudulent reign against a nightmare match-up. A true God or Fraud moment in my eyes.

Wow there are actually Silva non believers? We will be here when you eat crow after Silva knocks his ass out in the second round.

The fact that he's an old ass man at this point, makes it even better.

Heel said Yushin Okami was going to beat Anderson Silva, always keep that in mind.

"We want charismatic champions!"

Some people might say that but not me. If I wanted charisma I'd watch the WWE. I watch UFC to see competent fights/fighters. I'm happy to see someone finally get a title shot against Silva that deserves it and didn't just talk their way into the position.

We will hold you to this playboy, when Weidman is doing the stanky leg. Don't try to crap us and serpentine your way out of giving Anderson props, spinning a web of lies and deceit to tarnish Anderson's legacy after adding more material to his highlight reel.

I think the real question is, between Silva and Weidman, whose fight with Demian Maia was worse?

I mean, Silva's fight had all that dancing and taunting, but was also a pay per view main event. But, the Weidman fight was a gassy kickboxing fight, although it was free

Heelio is right on the mark. Personally, I think Weidman will expose this clown for the fraud he's always been but if Silver wins, I'll give him credit for once.

Wideman has been whining about it for a year. He only got the shot because while he was injured pretty much every other possible contender lost their last fight.

If Anderson beats Chris Weidman without controversy I will kiss the ring. He will be legitimized in my eyes. If not, I will laugh at his expense as you and others question your reality.

Well Maia landed the punch right on Silva's chin in the 4th and Andy ran away for half a round. Probably the best thing to come out of either fights.

doubt it.

Haters stay hatin da GOAT.

but Weidman'll get KO'd doe. We all know you Silva haters will think of any excuse to delegitimize this win even if he knocks him out in the first 5 seconds. Lets not play around here.

At least Old New Vitor's back has actually been squashing people in the cage the past year instead of whining to the press for a year.

He only won one fight between losing to Jones and before 162 was announced and that was against Bisping.

EDIT: Besides - if Belfort were to win, Dana doesn't want a champion of a division that can only get sanctioned in Brazil.

Just out of curiosity, who do you think should be getting the shot? Belfort?

I'm saying the only reason he got the shot is because while he was sitting on the sidelines, every other contender was losing. Bisping, Belcher, Lombard, Rockhold, even you Boetsch all probably would have got the shot had they not lost. I'd rather old man Victor get it. He's juiced up on the stuff though, so I doubt they want a champ that can't fight in the US.

It is a classic, young go-getter vs. the grizzled older veteran, youth vs. experience, up and comer vs. the champ.

But 2 things that stand out to me is that Weidman has been sidelined for quite a long time, his last fight being on 12 july 2012, and Anderson is notorious for his ability to stay calm in some tricky situations and thriving off the mistakes of his opponents.

The inexperience, coupled with the lenghty break from fighting, take that and put it up against someone like Silva and it seems like a complete shot in the dark to bet on Weidman.

Sure Silva will lose eventually, age will catch up to him and he will get slower, weaker etc. But i do not think Weidman is the guy that will beat him
