Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

I think tag teaming like the trainer would be a bit easier than having both being active at once like Ice climbers so it could work now that I think about. On a related note, I always thought having a tag team mode would be great.

We must be patient!

Maybe Nintendo will have a direct near gamescom and a character will be revealed there. Does Nintendo usually have a direct during gamescom?

They've been doing Directs since October or November 2011, there's no "usually" yet.
Last year had a Direct about 2 weeks after Gamescom. They ARE going to be at Gamescom this year, though.

I see. I didn't know Nintendo would be at Gamescom. Hopefully we'll get an info update then!

Yeah, same here. In no way does that mean to me that no one from Brawl has gotten cut so far. It's almost certain to me that not everyone from Brawl will be returning. I don't expect Snake, Wolf, Ike, or Lucas to come back, at the very least.

I think Lucas and Wolf are likely to return. The others? Naaaaah. I don't think we'll see Lucario again either, but you never know.

The game probably has enough newcomers+ veterans to have at least 1 announced per month with also leaving some secret for the launch.

Exactly. I'd be happy if they just showed 1 or 2 veterans a month until launch, where the players get to discover the newcomers themselves.

Yeah, I might be speaking too soon on Wolf, since he's not a straight clone... but still, three Star Fox characters who all play VERY similarly to one another? That seems like a good place to start if some characters need to be cut, you know?

I'm sticking to my guns on Lucas, though. Not that I have anything against him, as I enjoy using him, but he was never as popular/well-known (for obvious reasons) as Ness and if Sakurai is cutting clones, Lucas seems like he'd be one of the first to go. Honestly, I'd rather Ganondorf be cut, but we all know that won't happen because Zelda is too big a deal. Though maybe they'll surprise us and replace him with a non-clone Demise or Ghirahim to rep Skyward Sword?

And yeah, I was thinking Lucario might be on his way out too. If anything, I just figure Sakurai will re-replace him with Mewtwo again since so many people seemed to miss him in Brawl, even though they're pretty similar. I guess people just like Mewtwo more as a Pokémon.

I fully expect Ike to be replaced by Chrom, who will rep Fire Emblem along with a returning Marth.

And if I am right and Wolf is axed, I'd love to see him replaced with Krystal. I feel like she could have a really fun, original playstyle with her staff and mystic abilities and everything.

Wolf doesn't play similarly to Fox at all.

I'm getting tired of saying this all the time. Here's a challenge to all people who say Wolf is a Fox clone. Outside of his Final Smash, give me 5 moves that are similar to Fox.

And similarly, Lucas is not a Ness clone. I want to issue the same challenge to him.

If clones are gonna get cut, it'll be Toon Link.

Oh please, you know what I mean. I already said Wolf isn't a straight clone, and that's true, but it's undeniable that he, Fox, and Falco are all cut from the same base cloth. That doesn't mean they're the exact same (and Wolf is more different from Fox than Falco is), but they share the same base concept and mostly have different-looking and acting versions of the same moves. Same with Ness and Lucas.

Honestly though, there's no reason for you to get so worked up about this. We're all hardcore Smashers here, and we're all looking forward to the new games. I'm not talking shit about your favorite characters or the game in general, and I happen to love using Lucas. But facts are facts: Falco, Wolf, and Lucas are not completely original characters. They're based on existing ones, no matter how loosely.

And I highly doubt Toon Link will get cut. He's developed his own passionate fan following separately from adult/worse Link. Although I hope they don't call him "Toon Link" again...

I thought I heard somebody mention Krystal in this thread

do we know when there will be a new Nintendo Direct?

Yeah, In fact my Dad's, Uncle's, Nephew's, Cousin's, Second Cousin's, Brother's, Sister's, Mother's, Twice Removed Sister's, Brother works at Nintendo. He told me that there's a Nintendo Direct by the end of the week.

Take with a grain of salt.

Based on what you're saying, Luigi should also be cut.

I don't care about Lucas, and I despise Wolf. But saying that it's "undeniable" that they have existing versions of the same moves is just plain wrong. Every single one of Wolf's normals is 100% different from Fox's with only a couple of specials acting similarly to Fox's, and Lucas is almost the same except that a couple of his normals (f-smash, d-tilt) are also similar to Ness'. That's like saying Charizard copied Bowser because they both breathe fire. They are less of a clone for their respective characters than Luigi is for Mario.

I'm just tired of people seeing that they have similar Final Smashes and a couple of similar specials and proclaim "CLONE!" when that's completely inaccurate.

In the last page, people were starting to wonder if Sakurai's talk about not cutting characters from the IGN interview (so far) wasn't just about the 3DS vs the Wii U version, but this older article from another site has a similar statement and it's clearly about Brawl characters here.

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/197055...t_have_time_to_bring_all_characters_back.html

Not every character who has appeared in previous Smash Bros titles will be appearing in Super Smash Bros - because there isn't enough time to recreate them all.

Designer Masahiro Sakurai explained the reason when NowGamer asked if all the previous characters will return.

"I can answer that: no. We don’t have the time to fully recreate every single character who’s been in Smash Bros at this point," Sakurai explained.

"Adding new characters is not a simple addition – it’s really multiplication. The amount of work, adding a character is multiplied and becomes bigger and bigger as you go. We can’t because of the amount of work it takes. However, I do believe I understand that each character has its own set of fans out there who really like that character.

"So we’re not going to cut characters out of the way
, we’re going to put in as many characters as we can, we really want to do that, because it's good for the fans and good for all of us. But in the event that we do have to cut some characters, I’d like to apologise in advance to those fans."

I think his general statements really make it sound like he's trying to keep Brawl's entire cast right now. There's no basis to "Sakurai is aiming to remove X characters" at this point. He isn't going to bring back the Melee characters just to inflate the cast, but it seems like he's trying to keep Brawl's characters, since he obviously used Brawl's engine as the base of the new Smash.

Am I the only one who's getting really tired of the "_______ should be cut" discussion?

You should be tired of every Smash discussion by now, they're literally always about the same thing.

I'm pro-keep as many characters as they can btw,

You can't fault people discussing one of the most, if not the most important thing to most people. Although people saying "x" character should be cut, comes off as really self centered since that character probably has a big following in the series by now.

Just like the people saying Megaman should be the only third party character, you guys are jerks. :-(

I've spent enough time in the smash cycle that I can endure it and the many other stages, just another two years of this I guess.

Its starting to get to me man. If I read another Ridley size debate..I will only briefly skim through it! Oh who am I kidding. Heh

We can talk about how pretty Marth's hair is until there is info. :3

It is pretty gorgeous..nope can't do it.

I'm really interested in the customization aspect of the game now. I have a feeling we won't learn much about it though for awhile. For the transfer to work, wouldn't both versions need the same characters? That would put a limitation on things.

What a non-answer

Smash madness has burned the asylum down.

But this cycle has new stages like "the 3DS version should just be scrapped" and "what do they mean Mario's moustache has less polygons than a genome soldier?"

we don't have time to put the entire brawl cast in

but we won't cut any brawl characters

but we might

I'm not liking the whole "Wii U ver will be gimped due to 3DS" talk.

No it will not. Sakurai knows what he's doing and by the sounds of it, it's working.

Have you seen the 3DS version? Looks fantastic. I hate it when people keep assuming the Wii U one'll lack because of the 3DS.

Smash cycle is the gift that keeps on giving, this new content all for free, DLC done right.

I think what happens is that none the proposed characters for this game has been cut so far. But the proposed characters do not include all of the previously seen on Brawl, just some.

Shouldn't this game have been announced last year so that it can release this holiday season? We need some big hitters and this sells systems.

Honestly, I'd trade the entire singleplayer mode for two extra characters. So if they're really time-constrained, I want the effort going into stuff for the "main" game, which to me and many others is the multiplayer fighting (or sp against bots).

He didn't say Brawl he said Smash Bros. It sounds to me like he's saying that characters that were cut from Melee like Roy and Dr Mario probably won't be in the new games and that he doesn't want to cut more characters but if he has to then he is sorry to fans of those characters.

I thought I heard somebody mention Krystal in this thread

do we know when there will be a new Nintendo Direct?

Probably Aug 2013.

Am I the only one who's getting really tired of the "_______ should be cut" discussion?

Well, we have nothing to talk about but yeah.

I've spent enough time in the smash cycle that I can endure it and the many other stages, just another two years of this I guess.

There's nothing to discuss without any new info. The Smash Cycle is very much a real thing.

You can't stop the cycle.

Well, we could make smash cycle poster and use it for every thread. :)

Shouldn't this game have been announced last year so that it can release this holiday season? We need some big hitters and this sells systems.

Well, Sakurai completed Kid Icarus somewhen in Jan/Feb 2012 and I know that he were brainstorming during Feb 2012. They announced alliance between Nintendo and Namco-Banadai during June 2012. Basically they didn't have time before Jan/Feb 2012.

I prefer they take their time with SSB4 and make it awesome game for most of us.

I'm usually okay with discussing the same things. But I always felt the "____ should be cut" just feels wrong. Like you said, it comes off as something self-centered, even if it's not true in certain cases, it just feels wrong.

The question was about bringing back every character that has ever been in Smash Bros, not only about Brawl's cast. Sakurai says that, no, they don't have time to recreate every character that has ever appeared in the series. But then he also goes on to say that he doesn't want to make cuts here, although there's still a chance we'll see some cuts and he apologizes to their fans.

Although this doesn't guarantee anything, it seems to mean that Sakurai isn't planning any "cut X for Y" at this point.

Watching reaction videos on Youtube is fun as shit. My reaction to the Mega Man reveal probably wasn't that different to the ones in most of these videos.

I've been doing that with the Super Smash Bros. and Kingdom Hearts III reveals. Others might think it embarrassing. Personally, I think it's endearing.

I too love reaction videos. I didn't see the Mega Man reveal because the stream was crap and I assumed that pausing it would help and jumping to live and... basically a bunch of bullshit. And then I saw that Mega Man was confirmed in one of the few moments that GAF was up, so.

But I did roll around in my chair when KHIII was announced, so that's something.
