Fighting Games Weekly | July 1-7 | Heel turns, shattered dreams, broken cages

to ChrisG because he is not a fundamentally sound player? Yeah I can see that applying to numerous other players who play recklessly or try to throw coins but that is not Justin's play style at all. Out of all the teams that Justin has ever fought, no other team gives him the amount of trouble that ChrisG's team does.

Unless you want to argue that ChrisG has superior fundamentals to Justin Wong. Or that Justin Wong simply loses because his team is not strong enough to defeat Chris'.
I'd like to see a ft10 between those two. I think the big reason JWong loses is a lack of matchup experience.

The other reason is that he has problems making the Storm DHC threatening. He burns meter on Berserker Charge, which kills his meter gain. Morrigan already dampens meter gain with her gameplan. He tends to not have the meter to DHC Storm in to make good use of it. Also, Akuma's tatsu is just not that great of an assist in the current meta. The end result is that his team basically needs Wolverine to get the first hit to win against ChrisG with the way he plays it.

In a long set, I think JWong would learn the matchup.

SkullGirls is a better marvel game than marvel

Because it has some of GG's feel to the gameplay
It is.

Edit: gaf acting weird for me.

It is.

Not at all.

He's honestly really really simple. :P I sub him for fun he has a really limited move set outside of having a summon out, and when those are out he still has a fairly simple one

For the doggie try to ignore zappa and kill the dog, for THE REAL LAST BOSS OF THE GAME just pray

Alright, time to beat Zappa over the head with my fists. I'll do more than pray; I'll devote a religion to avoiding spook's wrath

All this talk of east coast and west coast really makes me wish Guilty's netcode was good. I know me talking about it is beating a dead horse but I don't care.

Will we ever see Justin Wong try in any game again? Has he become complacent because of his sponsorship? Has he spread himself too thin professionally?

I know he loves MvC2 much more than MvC3 and his reasons behind it (which many people who dislike MvC3 comparatively share), but honestly if he was able to suffer through the busted shit in MvC2, I think he could in MvC3. I don't think it can be the purported randomness alone, when we've seen some pretty damn consistent tournament results, from JWong himself too.

Maybe SSFIV CE will bring enough life back into Matchup Fighter 4 to make Justin hop back in since it seems unblockables and top tiers have been souring a lot of players's motivation to play.

Don't know what happened with SFxTK since he seemed to love that game, but I haven't been following him and that game either.

Isn't +R going to arrive on a golden steed that shits out diamonds? From seeing the reaction of a lot of guys it's like the +R patch is going to bring out an online system that's similar to p4a.

This reminds me, any people here on GAF that are into anime/airdash fighters going to Evo?

Oh, way up there. I figured if you lived in SoCal like me, you would've been going to TRB or the biweeklies. :[
There's always netplay I suppose.

I just want it to have good net code and that shit better hurry the fuck up cause once BBCP comes out I really wont give a fuck anymore.
Outside of playing it for fun here and there.

I could of moved in with Prototype in SoCal but I turned it down because I just moved into where I am now. Though I probably should have and not worried about looking like a douche bag :P

Oh yeah, speaking of BBCP would it be worth getting it? I'm kind of afraid of the whole "anime fighters implode within a few months" in terms of communities.

Unless the patch nerfs FADC > U1 > Top 8 > Pot Split I don't see why it really would.

Most likely depends where you live.

Ya. Id like to play more of it. I need some combo guides for GG, but it's like why bother when BB is right around the corner.

They dont implode online people are still playing BBCSEX, now as far as tournaments and stuff go that's a different story.

But honestly BBCP looks like the best fighting game Arc Sys has done since GGXXAC.

It's hype as fuck at high level, it's deep, and the characters are all very unique. The only downside is it's not coming out stateside til maybe feb.

Well shit, time to get good at Marvel. My scene eats breathes and lives Capcom, and look down on other games for being "too 2d"
Your scene sounds like typical capcom fan trolls and too 2d is the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard.

You could always be like me and pick characters with barely any character specific combos like Ky and Dizzy. lol

And as much as I like GG, I doubt it's going to take off. Most everyone is just going to focus on BB and eventually Xrd.

I think GG is a great game to learn though, it will make picking up BB and Xrd way way easier. It teaches you a great deal about spacing in an air dashing game. Which is even more important in BB, BB is on sf4 levels of spacing knowlage required though.

I dunno, I'm honestly not expecting any improvement. On one hand the Vita version had no online so that's my main "don't expect anything" card. On the other, why else would they delay it other than a glitch or two?

If only I had the cash and wasn't busy that weekend.

Speaking of being busy during Evo, this whole Road to Evo for me and streams has been crap timing. Those awkward family plans that you don't want anything to do with but you can't get out of have been springing up, and I swear whoever's been planning them must look at the event schedules. Lucky I even got to watch CEO this year.

ATM it looks more like Chris G is learning the matchup and becoming better at preventing Wolverine from getting the first hit than the other way round. There's nothing much to learn about the matchup for J Wong, if he can't get the first hit with Wolverine there's nothing he can do to gain meter.

I swear people said the same thing about P4A before release and that was like the worst $40 I ever spent on video games.

Yeah, I'm really liking the look of BBCP. Time to pick Valkenhayn up again, maybe this time people won't be mad at me for doing so!
My scene is the embodiment of capcom's rabid fanbase. Seriously, they use "too 3d" and "too 2d" in a serious tone and don't like to have fun. Use Dan? You're barred from any local for a month.
This is kind of why I'm clinging onto a game's online community; it's better than being here.

Wooooow. That sounds awful.

Which means it won't get a chance for Evo consideration.
Well EVO is a Capcom tournament unless you money hat in for the most part *there are exceptions*. The Anime fighter community isn't known for pulling numbers and consistency as well.

ArcSys fighters will rarely ever blow up because most players started on the capcom side of things and will stick to that as that's what they feel comfortable with. Learning whole new game stuff isn't fun for people that want to win, playing with characters they dont give a shit about isn't fun, and lack of being able to instantly pick it up and start doing stuff isn't fun to a lot of people.

It's just something I've come to accept, I mean shit if I was able to do events and host stuff I would GG and BB are my favorite fighters, and GG is what actually got me to take fighting games seriously. I just don't have the tools, resources, transportation, or hell physical strength to pull all that stuff together. Which honestly makes me depressed.

Can I go to your shitty sounding scene and win a local with dan and shut them up? Holy shit they sound like a bunch of stuck up tools

My roommate was getting constant BBCSEX online matches today on his PS3, so that game seems to have some (online) life in it.

The best online experience with a fighter I ever had was 3S on GGPO on PC. If the connection was good I could play the ~real game~ and not some half-assed version of it where a bunch of strats that should work don't and a bunch of things that shouldn't work do.

Skullgirls on 360 came close. Hopefully Yatagarasu reaches that level of playability if it reaches its goal.

ArcSys games are pretty much screwed for Evo.

They either get released past the date when the Evo lineup is considered or they end up having a newer version coming out so people get less motivated.

If they somehow get a good release date around the fall, tourney numbers begin to dwindle after a few months.

Get a bucket for those tears, because they'll bitch at you for not taking the game "seriously."
I rarely play anything seriously, it's boring as fuck. If they play good enough for me to actually try sure. I rather enjoy myself.
Anyone that plays me knows when this happens

Honestly Feb should be fine, that's still 5 months before EVO. That's enough time to get to A or S- level play unless you suck.

the funny thing is 3s on GGPO isn't even fully supported. If only they updated Final Burn alpha to fix the frame skip, and Ponder actually worked on it. It would be that much better. I think 3s on GGPO is the only game that has certain issues over 100 ping while the other games it's still fairly playable.

Maybe Killer Instinct will spark his love for fighting games again. I don't Know how Killer Instinct will play out, but apparently he is a huge fan of the series.

That shouldn't be a problem for next year. I don't think we're getting any big releases outside of KI, BBCP should be one of the biggest tourney games come July 2014 by defailt. Only way that won't happen is if the game isn't out.

This is pretty much how I feel about VF and why it isn't successful. I used to feel that way about KOF until KOFXI-XIII.

GGPO 98 was nirvana for me many years ago. 98UM being so much better kinda killed going back to inferior vanilla 98, so I stopped playing.

Don't know what happened with SFxTK since he seemed to love that game, but I haven't been following him and that game either.

I think what happened at CEO happened. Justin and Ricky love the game now, lots of guys do- so you get ready and find your cheap stuff get out your game plans and LETS GO lets see what everyone else has brought to the party....
-and Justin and Ricky seem to be the few guys that had figured some of the 'oh wow that works out really good against everyone pretty much' stuff with Chun and 90% of everybody had no real answer to the lame footsie stuff...

Wasn't final four Justin, Ricky, ChrisG and Momochi?
With Momochi being the only guy that had a strong answer to Chun and also had the fundamentals to back it up, even watching Chun get [largely] demolished wasn't even fun by that point ...

The games surface hasn't even been scratched yet, but it had such a poor start and most people still want to still just write it off as a joke because you're not allowed to change your mind about anything or something I guess?

I want to learn the game, but you ask around and you kinda tend to get get laughed at and because the scene is so small [relatively] and tech isn't really being discovered or discussed so a lot of the play/discussion is either a series of blowups of one guy has no answer to the other because he's never seen or practiced against what the other guy is doing or one guy knows waaaay more than everyone else and can't convey what he knows or refuses to. [generally, from my experience]

Not that I'm complaining, nothing wrong with doing your own homework, but this game has a lot of really solid, old-school players really into it, despite a lot of them not really liking where fighting games are going/what is out there right now [again, in general]

I'm sure it's hard for Justin to 'get motivated' about anything, but if it's a game he likes, but nobody plays and he can't make money off of... where's the motivation for anyone?
I think a lot of the motivation comes from competition and the competitive spirit within a scene and SFxT could just turn into a game that really ended up pretty good only nobody will know until a cult scene pops up.
Which I think it will, the game seems to have decent legs.

Maybe it's me, but I hate to see any fighting game die off... I was around for the 90's boom and the massive fighting game/arcade bust and getting new fighters every year isn't some sort of guarantee. Enjoy everything that's out there now, I say.

Winter is coming.

EDIT: [Also, I haven't really slept in two days so I have no idea if my posts make any sense at all at this point, so if they don't- I apologize]
