Steins;Gate Visual Novel getting US Release on PC

Got told in the JAST panel that Muramasa is still on hold while these N+ games come out

fml

Looking forward to S;G though

Planning to totally ask Aksys about Dangan Ronpa tomorrow.

Amazing news. Really enjoyed the VN when I played it last year. I probably won't play it again, but I'm definitely going to support the Greenlight release as much as I can and I'm going to buy it regardless.

Great news for those in the west. It's a great game. Well worth playing even if you have seen the awesome anime series already. I love it so much I've bought it like four times for four different systems. Yeah that's a bit too crazy but I wanted every version I could get. Hope it does very well in the west.

Nice. I prefer playing this on PS3, but PC is fine too. Also, I hope this comes in a nice physical package with reasonable price.

Retail release with Steam version included please!

Great news, very excited to play this. Maybe not my platform of choice but i'll take anything at this point :)

Steiner says there will be some new features to the engine
http://tempusedaxrerumtl.wordpress....lease-the-steinsgate-visual-novel-in-english/

it looks nicer, the entire script has been redone, and through the wonder of engine access it also includes certain features that weren’t present in the original game.

I wonder if this means a fixed skip mode. Oh man oh man.

Also:
There is also a small glimmer of hope for the rest of the SciADV series, 5pb will be watching the sales closely, so if Steins;Gate sells well in the west we may even see the other titles heading our way in the future, I also know that JAST has an interest in Chaos;Head, so it’s up to the consumer to decide the fate of the Science Adventure series.

Ive heard about this series looking forward to pc release but will it be on steam or desura or the like?

Nice!!

Easily one of my favorite animes of all time, and definetely the best I've seen in recent memory. Everything about it was just perfect, had that great blend of humour and charm, with a great story to boot, and really likeable characters. I'd strongly, strongly urge those who are on the fence to watch the anime, at the very least, give it a couple of episodes. Also happy to hear that the original JPN voices are in, it sucks for those who wanted the dub, as choice is always nice, but all I wanted was the original voices, and we got em.

S;G translator here. Translation is done and so is basically all the editing. We're just working out all the bugs. And by we, I mean Nagato. Probably the biggest hurdle now time-wise would be QC from Nitro+.

You actually work at JAST USA? I don't mean to be so leery but anybody can post and claim they're working at so and so company. But assuming you're being truthful, any chance we could see Robotic;Notes come to western shores as well? Also any chance of a Steam release for Steins;Gate?

Check my email and then my blog a.lemnis.ca. I did the fan translation, which we overhauled. 5pb.'s been pretty stubborn with negotiations, including a potential Steam release. Not to sounds like a salesman (not paid by royalties or anything), but I think the only thing that would convince 5pb. is sales.

Will we see an English voice option available seeing that there's already an English dub for the anime provided by FUNimation? or are the voices in Japanese only?

I'd be cool if the voices are Japanese only, but that's just me.

I haven't been told of anything about an English dub, and that would be kind of a pretty important thing for me to know if that was happening, since it would require more localization and adaptation to make the lines and terms match better with the anime. More importantly, it would delay the game even further. It would be nice, though. I did enjoy switching back and forth between Blazblue's EN and JP voices, but that's really an extra thing that's not entirely necessary. The original voices will be available.

The quotes from the JAST translator make it sound like Nitro+ is/was even against a Steam release, so I doubt they would be open for a PSN release.

There is still the programming to deal with. All of their work has been with the PC version.
Sure, but if the console versions are ports of the same display engine, most of it could hopefully be reused. We ultimately won't know if it's possible to bring the console versions over unless they give it a shot, which is why prodding Sony a bit about it is a good start.

Why are they against Steam release? Is Valve cut or something?

Seems stupid being against release the game on the biggest PC digital store for no particular reason....

Yeah, I wonder what the costs associated with a steam release would be. To me it seems like it would be the easiest way to reach the most people.

Day one import, I've always wanted to give the Steins;Gate games a try since first hearing about them. Crossing all my fingers for the sales figures to beat expectations.

There are few, if any, fixed costs associated with a basic Steam release; achievements might cost a little more but wouldn't take that long in dev time.

I imagine it's more 5pb. just not understand Steam and frankly being afraid of exposure; a lot of these VN companies are just completely, blindly terrified of the overseas market in any form, remember. After some of the bad press VNs have gotten over the years, it's a struggle just to get them to even try, because they'd rather just stay home and make money domestically and that's it. Trying to get them to commit to a business model that is almost completely, legitimately alien to them - Steam mass digi-distro - is an even greater hurdle. It's one I've had to climb before in a somewhat different capacity.

Wonder if I should point a certain Ms. Love JAST's way, see if she can help convince 5pb. on the viability front at all.

Good news. S;G was pretty good.
EiyuuSenki is better

I imagine the difficulties with Steam would be getting through Greenlight and convincing Nitro+/5pb, programming achievements for a visual novel can't be that demanding. I find it strange that they would be hostile to Steam when JAST already sells digitally distributed Nitro+ VNs through their own website.

To be honest, this post just makes me more curious as to what you're mystery project is.

Being against a Steam release at this point in time, for any company trying to sell a game on PC, just seems like such an insane stance. Pretty much every smaller western PC developer would kill for a chance at a Steam release.

I for one think this would pass Greenlight in days. Agarest did.

Nitro + is a pain in the ass to deal with. Nintendo might be backwards at times, but they don't hold a candle to Nitro +'s stupidity. It's very infuriating that they publish the most top-notch VNs in Japan. JAST probably would love to release many more VNs instead of like three a year.

And I played Steins;Gate a few months back. I'm a little sad this version won't include an English dub (though I expected it wouldn't anyway). I probably won't pick it up, since I spent 40 hours on it back in February. I'm not ready to replay Steins;Gate.

But for people who haven't played it (or have only seen the anime), buy and play this game. It is the best in its genre.

This is unexpected. I'll definitely try it out. The anime was pretty enjoyable, but I never thought I'd get a chance to play the VN.

I could understand with some of the other Nitro+ adult VN, but S;G seems quite tame as far as I know (the rating confirms it). I mean Agarest is releasing on Steam and that's has way worst imagery in comparisson.

I feel like Steam itself could help to spread the benefits of the platform to a lot of these smaller japanese developers.
