Steins;Gate Visual Novel getting US Release on PC

Can someone explain why Steins;Gate is good? I tried it a while ago for a couple of hours but the tone of the writing and personality of the main character (and the other characters, for that matter) made me bounce right off it.

You eventually discover the reason for Okabe's insanity, and it will totally change your opinion of the character. If you don't like him enough to get that far, well, that's a problem.

I have exactly one request. Fix the title to remove the obvious abuse of English. Yes, it "looks cool" or whatever. I'm sure it has in-game relevance too. But I actually think fixing the title would entice more people who wouldn't normally try this kind of game one less reason to be dismissive. uguu~

It's fine, Stump. Admit it; you just hate semicolons.

Because the first hours don't really show what this novel is about (if you dropped it before the
hacking of SERN
then you dropped it before it started to get serious) Also, there's more than what meets the eye with the characters' personalities, but you don't get to see that until a certain event in the game happens.

I haven't read through this thread yet, so I don't know if has been mentioned, but the semicolon is really turning me off from this game, even though it sounds really cool. I haven't played any of the previous (?) titles so maybe I can overlook it. Maybe

Yeah, I'm sure if it was just called Steins Gate all the COD;bros would be lining up around the block to play it. Get to work, Japan!

Oh, come on

Are you people really complaining about the semicolon of all things?

I know that it's weird, but it's what identifies this series (Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate, Robotics;Notes)

Also, it doesn't change the contents of the story

This title discussion reminds me of the pre-release gnashing of teeth about Ni No Kuni. People thought the title would seal the game's fate in western markets, but it seems to have done really well for itself and exceeded expectations. And if anything, that's a game which is far less niche than Steins;Gate.

The semicolon used to bother me, but once I played the game, I quit caring about it and I actually kinda get irritated to see people making such a big deal about it now.

The semicolon is strange, but this is a science fiction VN centered around otaku living in Akihabara, it only gets weirder from there.

Of all things, people are bothered by the semicolon?

Sweet Jesus, if you're someone bothered by that I'd avoid looking at Chaos;Head's stylised title.

ChäoS;HEAd.

Yeah I used to think it was rather silly but then I figured it was sillier to complain about it.

Took me 30 hours or so. I loved the character interactions all the way through, but YMMV. It's great at building the characters before, as said, it gets real.

Took you only 30 hours. Took me about 40 hours, and I believe it took someone in the VN thread around 30 to reach the halfway point.

haha troll jokes aside, I see this has an ios release but is japanese language only? Bummer. what are the chances of this being translated/subbed?

There's a fan T/L patch that can be applied to the iOS version, but considering the guy who made the T/L patch is doing the script for the JAST release, I don't know whether using it can still be considered legit.

It's a trademark of the series since Chaos;Head it'd be dumb to remove a unique identifer for the series and remove recognition from the anime that was released here under the original name.
I may well be mistaken, but I thought he was referring to the text that generally accompanies the title. Overall, there's a lot of unfortunate English in this series (among other languages).
(Boggles the mind that this is still an issue nowadays. Who knew it was so hard to get an actual English-speaking person to check a few sentences for you?)

About what kind of the noids you get?

Zero Escape has put good VNs on my radar. May buy.

I poke fun at it cuz it's goofy in that endearingly Engrish way.

ah, so if I just chill and wait it's likely the ios version will get a above-board english bump?

I'm just asking because I have no familiarity with the history of these games/etc

That all depends on whether Nitro+ (the original developer) also developed the iOS version, or whether 5pb (the publisher) farmed it out to a port studio, whether the dev of the iOS version can put the time into doing whatever localization programming/QC is required, and whether 5pb is interested in getting the localized version on iOS at all.

I have no knowledge of the situation, but I wouldn't necessarily get my hopes up.

I didnt know people could get actually turned off by different punctuation methods in a game title... I mean its a weird way to use it, but how does that affect the actual game content? Sorry, it just doesnt make sense to me.

Would be really cool to see more visual novels get localized and brought to the US. Seeing this and those Vita games everyone's hyped about getting brought stateside is pretty awesome.

Well I have no defence, it's clearly a little thing and obviously anyone who writes it off over a little thing is pretty closed-minded and I'm not saying I wouldn't try it if they didn't fix it... all I can say is that I've heard good things about the game and I would hate it if a stylistic choice contributed, even in a small way, to people not trying it.

If anything, I imagine the semicolon actually helps for the extremely small percentage of people where something like that would sway them either way. It's like "whoa, that's a crazy name. It's not a typo?" then they look into it and find something interesting. For everyone else, it would just be "what's this anime shit?", and those guys won't look much further regardless of the name.

Really looking forward to playing this. I'd been holding out hope for a long time that it would get released officially, and even held off on watching the anime to avoid spoiling myself. With this and Dangonronpa both coming over, it's a great time to be a VN fan in the US. (Now, about that Time Travelers release)

That's all I truly need right now. All of these VN announcement, I hope Level 5 is noticing the increasing trend in VNs over in the West and decide to localize Time Travelers.

This has been an amazing day for announcements, but this is the one I'm most hyped about. I've been interested in this title for years, can't wait to finally play it.
