My friend and I used to hang out at Einstein's Arcade in Austin, TX back in the day. DDR, Guilty Gear, Outrun 2, this place had it all. Well arcades have the tendency of attracting a few oddballs. There was this one guy who ONLY listening to Final Fantasy music. It's become sort of an inside joke with my friend "I only listen to Final Fantasy music!"

I would say that the best thing to come out of the FF13 series of games is the music.They did a really good job especially with the US commercials, highlighting the usage of Leona Lewis. Probably the most mainstream Final Fantasy has ever felt to me.

in between those few times where they use a different one, it's the same battle theme. It's played for at least 80-90% of the battles.

It's not 1994 anymore. They can write more music and fit it on a 50gb disc to keep their fans with taste from getting sick to death of the same song over and over.

I may be inclined to agree it's pretty high up there, if most battles didn't end before it got to the good part of the song. The slow intro makes it a failure to me.

Overall I've listened to pretty much every FF soundtrack more than FFXIII. It has a few good tracks but a lot of them don't fit into Uematsu's best stuff.

Rational people all agree that Final Fantasy IX has the best battle theme. I'll never understand how people could stand FFVII's, it just makes me really nervous. It has this aura of dread and doom all over it. IX is the perfect synthesis of classic and new FF music.
