Good thing I left EMP years ago. I don't have anything against Triforce but the players in the organization have been stuck in a rut for years. It sucks.

Nova already gets used a fair amount but not in optimum teams for him. Strange is still behind where he should be in the meta game because he is a near top support character.

Strider's assist is good, but it's already being figured out. It's true that the best players will protect their assists, but we'll see in the future if the balance shifts towards the other great players who know how to punish assists. FChamp already does a great job of knowing how to avoid Strider + punish it to the best of his abilities without risking his character. Strider's anchor potential is pretty derpy, but it only requires three bars. Unfortunately he's free on incoming, requires 3 meters and/or x factor, has low health, does low damage, and doesn't have a second life. His assist is great, but I think a lot of people get hit by it because they don't have a lot of experience against it or haven't taken the time to figure it out. There are some dirty setups for it, of course, but will it work in the long term? Not sure. If I was playing someone who had a good team that made use of Strider assist though, I'd sure as hell snap him in ASAP.
 
Not long ago I would literally have to give up on an SRK page because it had this drop down ad shit that would block site UI and not go away.

Vegas can be done on the cheap if you have the time to do it.

Some tips to those who've never done it and want to do it next year:
1) Don't book too far in advance or too close to the date. Both of these times are when the prices are jacked up really high. Once the airlines start getting desperate, they'll lower prices just to fill up seats. Then when seats start filling up, they'll raise prices again because people will start getting desperate. Twice I've made it to Vegas round trip for ~$200-250. The other time was about $300. Direct flights, but from Arkansas.
2) Try to do Wednesday -> Tuesday or Wednesday -> Wednesday. Weekend trips are in more demand so they're more expensive.
3) Use different websites like Expedia/Orbitz/etc to get a feel of prices. Southwest doesn't (or at least didn't) charge luggage fees, so factor that into your costs. If you don't go Southwest, consider fitting all of your luggage into your two carryons. Definitely doable if you pack light.
4) Stay at The Quad (formerly Imperial Palace) or Harrah's. Right in the middle of the strip and some of the cheapest rooms you can get for the location. You shouldn't be in your room that much, so who cares if you're in a fancy hotel? Unfortunately they just started doing resort fees, but the rooms themselves should still be fairly cheap. Split the room if you can. Double beds should mean at least four people can fit into a room.
5) If it's your first time in Vegas, watch out for food prices. A cheap bite to eat isn't insanely hard to find, but it's not easy either if you're not looking. First Evo I did, our group tried the 24 hour buffet passes. GREAT deal if you have the time. TERRIBLE deal if you want to actually participate in Evo lol. Lines are long and you have to eat 3-4 meals per day to make it worthwhile. Instead, go to the McDonalds (also has a Panda Express, a pizza place, and a Mexican fast food place I think) right next to Harrah's for a cheap bite to eat. There are other fast food restaurants around the strip, but that's definitely the one that comes to mind.

Total cost of Evo for ~5 nights can be had for ~$400-$500 if you budget correctly. This is very hard to do on your first trip though (especially if you're going by yourself), so expect to spend at least $750-$800.

EDIT: For future trips, people should definitely make sure to compare priceline hotel prices to the hotel prices from the Total Rewards website. Signing up for a Total Rewards card is free and often gives you a discount on rooms. It's just a gambling "loyalty" program. No catches.

If you sign up for their credit card though, you automatically get Platinum status. I'm pretty sure no annual fee either.

FChamp even with all his knowledge and experience still loses to DrewGrimey from time to time. As do many other players including ChrisG himself.

Strider is very effective with just XF as well, he can easily build the meter from Orbs off of first touch. His neutral game is good and his incoming mix ups are strong too. It's only when he has nothing is he a huge liability but Vergil with nothing is kinda bad too.

If you have to snap in a character then that character has already done his work. The opponent is spending meter and letting a strong front line character live just so he can have a shot at Strider. I mean if you want to start using that logic then we should be seeing way less Vergils because he is a bigger liability than Strider (no double jump for incoming, no air option) and his assists is much worse as well.

Hey smokemaxx, the IP turning into the quad really sucked. They raised the prices a bit and started the resort fee. Bummer. Its still cheaper than the other places of course.
 
I'm just going to agree to disagree about Strider. He's really good, but I don't think he'll be used that much more in the future. Like, he'll probably be as useful as drones are now. Great assist, but people will be wary about using him. Generally, losing Strider on a team that has him hurts more than losing Vergil on a team that has him.

As for SRK - it's unfortunate that the site had such terrible ads that people were pretty much forced to install adblocker just to use the site. They should do it like NeoGAF and just put banners on the top and bottom. Instead they had autoplay ads that blocked the control panel as well as a stupid toolbar on the bottom. With all the problems they've had with their forums as well as the constant changes and how slow/unstable their forums used to be, it's no surprise that most of the boards in there are dead. There are thousands of people that play AE/Marvel and pretty much the only threads that are alive for both boards are the megathreads (tierlist talk; stream talk). Our group moved on to Facebook to talk about fighting games and (unfortunately) we haven't looked back. Kinda sucks too because it used to be a lot easier to find new people. Now they pretty much have to know someone in the group to join.

Calling Strider on FChamp's Doom when his Doom is grounded is a dead Strider. He's getting better at it all the time.

On Vergil vs Strider without XF or meter, I still think it's Vergil. Better damage, more life. More chance to gain meter for swords. Doesn't need three bars for damage.

Yeah I stayed there last year while they were doing the transition. Are the prices much worse? I know they used to be pretty reasonable. Sucks what's going on with Vegas right now though; they're really in the dumps money wise. Luckily I get resort fees waived if I ever go there, but I know from past experiences (first Evo we stayed at Excalibur) that resort fees sucks. BTW, don't stay at Excalibur unless you really like walking several miles in the hot sun lol.

Yeah. It sucks because it's a PITA to learn new characters now. Most of the Marvel B&B threads are outdated and/or unorganized. Most threads' last posts were like 6 months ago. That's one thing stopping me from learning a new team =/
 
So I spent around $1400 give or take now that I've went through my transactions, much of that going to travel costs. Don't remember how much I spent in actual cash or from casino winnings. Would have been more if I went clubbing or drank my ass off. Could have saved some money if I really wanted to be a cheap ass about it or planned earlier, or went out in the blazing heat to find cheaper places to eat, but I spent enough to have a great time.

Last year was also my first time going to Vegas and now I know what to expect. I'll just ask for handouts next time since that's what's hot in the streets.

I'm also not staying at IP again, but their breakfast was official.

What you do is you get a whole bunch of subscribers to pay you $5 per month. Then you raffle off the chance to donate to you. The business model practically sells itself.

In general, it can be hard to see when a forum has made a turn downward because it's not as if you're going to get implosions and mass exoduses. It just starts to rot away and you only see looking back how bad things have gone. Success in spite of key failings also clouds the issue.

Kirblar isn't really saying anything really bad about your content. It's just that EH does a decent enough job that SRK doesn't have an edge in that area thus it makes it harder for folks to justify putting up with the rest of the site. If there was a content advantage, then there would be more reason for folks to put up the current format. Unfortunately, there isn't so it's harder to justify spending time there.

How so? Most people who are going to gamble would do so anyway. Might as well get something out of it IMO. In the past, I did a little bit of grinding to get to the next tier, but now it's pretty much impossible to do that with table games lol. You have to be a slot maniac to get any higher. Actually I take that back; my dad's at a higher tier than I am, but he is also a high roller.

When addiction enters the picture you have an entity whose business depends on making it worse and the personal information to leverage for it. Not that such outcomes are foregone conclusions, but they definitely don't have your best interests at heart.

Haha yeah I can agree with that. They're a casino after all; they're designed solely to take money. I guess it sucks for those without self control. Not sure if that's something I'd blame on the casino though.
 
He said VxG's sponsorship money is delayed so they need the donation money to buy the ticket. Afterward, VxG is going to reimburse them for it.

He is asking for 2k for the 5 players.

I don't buy it.

Edit: As for why he is asking for donations last minute, it's the players fault for procrastinating. Not his management.
