Remembering Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

Ryan Davis is trending on twitter. Clearly his work touched a lot of people in some way. I hope he knew that.

Given the speed this thread is moving at, I don't know if anybody will see this, but it's hard to believe.

Giantbomb's mandate was to have the main guys put their personalities out there so that their audience would know where they were coming from with their game opinions, rather than just numbers in a vacuum. Because of that, from listening to their podcasts week after week, month after month, year after year, you really feel like you know these guys, even if they've never met you.

Ryan was such a vital and energetic guy and had a real presence, he always came across as kind of the dad in the room. It's shocking to lose a guy like that, because it reminds you that anybody can go at any time. That this came right after he was married, I can't even begin to understand how difficult that would be for his wife. Anybody who's experienced bereavement knows what a storm through your life that is, in ways you can never prepare for. Thoughts go out to her for having to deal with a tragedy nobody should ever have to. May she stay strong.

I know he and Jeff have been friends forever, and I hope for the best for him too. This is the kind of thing you can't walk away from unchanged, but I think we all appreciate his humour and wish him well while trying to deal with something like this.

thought it was a joke at first too on twitter, thanks internet for making me think it was a joke from all those other times people say RIP LOL jk. Such a shame I always listen to their podcast

When used in combination with alcohol, antihistamines, barbiturates, or benzodiazepines, Lortab can potentially cause fatal breathing problems.

Living it up on your honeymoon + Lortab

Honestly, that's pretty devastating for his wife but the guy went out in probably the happiest time of his life. That's the only positive I can think of in this situation. Seemed like a good guy.

damn, that really got me :(

Wow, I am genuinely shocked and saddened by this. I always looked forward to Ryan and Vinny's Quick Looks because I knew at the very least their commentary would be entertaining.

Oh god, this is not happening...

I keep hoping for some kind of mistake, hoping that thread title is a mistake... Ryan was such a great guy, I'm genuinely saddened by his loss.

RIP

I thought this was a joke thread.

:(

Damn, been listening to GB for a very long time. Even though I mostly did not agree with him his hosting and laugh was always great. Sad. So young too and just married. I wonder what killed him that young :S

We need to give him a bit more credit with this Lortab business. What about that guy would make you think he was actually doing that? He has earned our benefit of the doubt.

Just hung out with him for the first time at E3 this year when I visited the Giant Bomb studios and was a guest on the cast. Very sorry to hear, heart goes out to his family, friends, and all the Giant Bomb guys.

WHAT THE FUCK?! I can't believe this! This is devastating! He was just married too! I'm literally in shock right now.

My condolences to his family and everyone at Giant Bomb. This is just terrible.

I can't say that I watched too many giant bomb videos or even listened to their podcasts. But from the brief time I spent listening to the guys, Ryan came across as a genuine down to earth guy.

There is no consolation I can offer. To his family and friends, I am sorry for your loss.

Un fucking believable. I'm shaking as I type this.

R.I.P Ryan, gone WAY too soon. My condolences to his friends and family.

My God, he just got married :(

Has to be a joke

Has to be a joke

*clicks thread*

Nah wait this can't be real

*goes to last page*

Fuuuuucckkk

This is unbelievable. I'm never affected by the deaths of people I don't know but... wow. Can't believe this...

Stunned. We're not supposed to be having any of our game journalists dying. The industry isn't even old enough to collect Social Security checks yet.

He passed 5 days ago according to the article. Wonder why it took so long for the news?
Many things could factor into it and i don't care to speculate.

Same thing with the lortab joke. Nobody knows anything, let's pay respects and not speculate on something we know nothing about it. It's not the time nor the place.

Very sad to hear. Quite shocking too, as he just got married. To be cut down in your prime after such a memorable occasion, there are no words.
