It's probably the same as with any "underground" thing that's owned by a big corporation. You never get 100% freedom, no matter who you are, when you're owned by the big boys. The examples in television are numerous. You just have to play the game, I guess.I kind of took a lot of that as sarcastic speak and things were ok :/ That's a huge shame.
I wonder why they let themselves get purchased in the first place.
Money in Wiskey was almost gone, economy was not picking up fast enough and they needed to be sold in order to continue.I kind of took a lot of that as sarcastic speak and things were ok :/ That's a huge shame.

I hope the Bombcast this week, or whenever they feel up for doing some audio, is just Ryan memories. It'd just be weird to try and talk about games again all of a sudden.
Let's all play Burnout Paradise, Ryan (and Jeff obviously) liked that game, right?
as real as they come sadlyWait what, this is real? Shit shit shit, oh man.
oh man...
Stunned without words...
RIP Mr. Davis
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was the end of giant bomb, it was Jeff and Ryans site and now Ryan is gone i can't see them wanting to continue to work at CBSI
people can find it awful hard going back to places and doing things that remind them of someone they love
Couldnt disagree more. The Dudes there will rally around it. They will say to them selves "Would Ryan have wanted us to pack it in? Fuck No!"
It will make them stronger. They have to make sure what tey are doing would have made Ryan proud.
I know most of you do not like reddit but its nr 1 on reddit and as a recent stury says over 6% of all adults on the internet in the USA visit reddit. :O

Exactly this. It's gonna be super weird for a while as we all figure out this crappy new Ryan-less world, but shutting the site down would pretty much be the #1 choice of Things You Shouldn't Do. It's not what he would want at all, so what purpose would that even serve?

I could've sworn that during the "Freedom Stream" on July 3rd, Ryan popped into the chat for a few brief minutes. Did i imagine this or does anyone else remember?
I don't think the Bombcast is the right medium for this kind of thing. If anything, they should skip the bombcast this week and do a memorial live stream where they play some of Ryan's favorite games and reminisce on the couch.
I know he's probably laughing at us all and ecstatic by the worldwide Twitter trend, but I still can't believe how bummed I am about someone I've never met and who lived on the other side of the world.
I now understand how people get so worked up over celebrities.
edit - also, this picture Matt just posted is amazing.

If you watch the Michael Jordan Encyclopedia Bombastica, you can see Patrick break down at the end. I thought it was just for dramatic effect at the time, but it looks like he just couldn't handle it anymore...

Im mega confused. Are we 100% sure he died on July 3rd? Because im looking through the GB guys twitters and none of them even show a faint hint as to what has happened until today. Even Ryans new wife has been tweeting about Marsmellows and Batman Begins since July 3rd.
Edit: Maybe its just the way some people deal with grief i guess..

I thought he didn't find out until today.
It's on Ryan's Giantbomb database page, put there by Jeff himself.
Patrick posted in this thread that he found out prior to today. I don't want to call people out because I'm sure no one means an offense or insensitivity but I don't think it's appropriate to be analyzing the guys' public tweets or videos to get a sense of their reaction on the days following his passing. That's just my feeling.

How hard must that have been for him? We've had to ask Facebook to take down my cousin's account, but I can't see actually going in and putting that edit on a page like that. I would be losing everything I had.
