Remembering Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

Incredibly sad news - way too young, and awful timing too; newly married and the world in front of him. As with many of you, in a sense I 'grew up' with him; his voice has been one that's been in and out of my life in various degrees since a long time ago, when I was much younger, and much stupider. It's certainly strange and sad having a constant like that ripped away; I can only imagine what those who knew him personally feel. My thoughts and best wishes go out to his family and close friends - I hope (and can't imagine otherwise) that the Giant Bomb crew will go full steam ahead after they recover to a degree, and do his memory and the work he put into the project proud.

I can do nothing but refresh the Ryan threads on here reading all the kind words. I havent done any work much at all, cannot concentrate.

Its weird feeling this for someone I have never met, but Giant Bomb make you feel like their family, and as such, a family member has died. In all of us.

God this hurts so much. Every website I frequent is talking about Ryan. I need to take a break from the internet, just hurts too much to see someone I listened to every day and watched everyday... just gone.

I just noticed Saints Row IV is coming out next month, I really wish I could've heard what he thought about it.

Fuck, I first saw this thread hours ago and this is still eating at me really bad :( I feel so awful for the GB guys... I never even met him, and they had to spend all day sitting in the office with his desk and all his things right there.....

edit: Could someone be so kind as to Ryan Davis up my avatar?

Ryan helped bring up the site and podcast and is one of the things that he has left for everybody. Stopping the bombcast and closing the site because he died would be killing his legacy.

It's been a rough year for GiantBomb, with Dave leaving the team, Patrick moving out of the office and joining Alex as "the other dudes", but the death of Ryan is just shocking and heartbreaking. Honestly, i feel like I've lost a childhood friend, I ended up not getting any work done today because i couldn't take my mind off of it.
I'm still numb about the fact that someone I've watched and listened on almost a daily basis for 5+ years is gone, just like that.
As for people talking about killing the site or the bombcast, i'm sure it isn't what Ryan would have wanted.

Not to be a buzzkill, but just in case; I'm assuming you know his wife? Or at least her contact information and have her consent for this kind of thing? Not doubting your intentions, but if you're going to be taking money from people, it'd be nice to have some background first.

Totally understandable. I don't know her wife I shot a facebook message to giantbomb letting them know what's up. My thoughts are I would just have them accept the money and give it to his wife. Here is the message I sent them in case anyone is wondering.

Hey guys, I started a teespring campaign for Ryan Davis' wife. I am not sure if y'all are familiar with teespring but it's basically a crowd funding t-shirt design campaign website. If enough people purchase a shirt than the shirts will be printed and shipped out. The person who creates the campaign can pick the price and they will receive any profits from the campaign.

If the campaign succeeds there should be a profit of a little over $3,000. That will be donated to Ryan's wife to help out with the financial side of things. On the shirt design is the Giant Bomb logo, which could very well be copyright infringement. I thought y'all would be cool with me using the logo but if not I will take the campaign down asap.

Also, I realize there are dirt bags in this world who will try to make a buck off of anything. If there is anyway I can prove my sincerity or authenticity please please let me know.

Hey everyone, as many of you know, Ryan was recently married. I have put together a teespring campaign for his new wife. All proceeds of the Ryan Davis Memorial Tee will be donated to his new wife to help her out in this time of need. If 300 shirts are sold, it should be a little over $3,000 that we can donate to her. If anyone has any questions or concerns shoot me a pm.

Thanks

I bet I wouldn't get that in time for PAX Australia :(

It's been 8 hours and I still don't believe it.

Holy shit, seriously? This is fucking tragic. Terrible, RIP Ryan.

Enjoyed his down-to-earth personality, even if Giant Bomb wasnt always my go-to site.

Wow after thinking about it i just realized i have been listening to Ryan's voice for years now, it really feels like you lost someone you knew even if only a little, such a huge loss RIP in Ryan.
Also did Patrick's father really died on July 3? That's like a sick joke to me, first his father dies then his close friend follows exactly one year later. My heart goes out to Patrick so fucked up.

If you add a comma to the text on the shirt I will definitely buy one.

So sorry to hear of this. I know a lot of fans are on here of Giant Bomb (never listened myself to the cast) and that's just gotta be rough. And at such a young age, he's not even 10 years older than me. Puts life into perspective.

May he RIP. And if someone on here plans to do a fund to help his wife, I'd be glad to throw some dollars in.

Saw this news on lunch break today and was taken aback by it. I always found Ryan entertaining on the Bombcast and Quick Looks. His frequent barrage of tweets and back and forth with certain people is how I found out that somebody I grew up with works at Harmonix. Condolences to everybody at Giant Bomb and his family.

RIP.

Still cannot believe he is gone. Year ruined :(

I'll try and stay positive, buddy. I'm sure you wouldn't want anyone mourning over you. You will not be forgotten.

Just saw the news. They just started flowing down my eyes, so I gotta make the song cry. Damn, Ryan, I'm gonna miss u dude.

Thank you Mr. Davis, for all the laughs all these years, back all the way from the HotSpot days.Sincerely thank you. May the angels listen and laugh with you on Tuesdays.
Rest In Peace , Ryan Davis.

I don't mean to nitpick, but shouldn't it be "Hey everybody" or "Hey everyone" rather than Hello? If it were the former, I'd definitely grab one.
