Fighting Games Weekly | July 8-14 | All roads lead here

I wonder what surprises we'll see in Top 8 this time around.

Going through the top 32 for last evo is hilarious.

Going into Evo, who woulda thought that Rog, Marlinpie, Clockwork, Richard Nguyen, Fanatiq and Zak Bennet would not make top 32.

And Pzpoy, TooMuchDamage, Meep, Hi Im Nastyy, Jan, Stone, Mr Naps and Kinderparty to make top 32, with all due respect

This is without even taking into account the actual no names who made top 32 such as ID, Sexy Mike, Don323, Gox and Apologyman (unknown at the time)

Best international hope for top 8 Marvel are Zak Bennet, Nemo, Tokido and KBR with probably some Mexican/Latino/South American player because they put in work with the game. Maybe White Black if he gets an easy bracket too. If Chou was there he would be a potential top 8 international candidate too.

Killer Kai said it right, getting top 8 is more a matter of the brackets and luck of the draw. Unless you are Christopher Genius.
Whens the last time we've even seen Zak Bennet or Tokido play against competent players? Maybe Kuwait Battle Royale for Tokido? Not enough info to say either way, especially considering everyone else has levelled up too.

Nemo is good, just don't know if I have confidence in his matchup knowledge, same goes for every international player that isn't KBR.

SexyMike is a pretty well known BlazBlue and Marvel player in Colorado. He's one of the (if not the only) players that has both Morrigan and Phoenix on his team. Always frustrating to play against him because he actually does great with both. Great to practice Anti-Chris G tech with. Not everyone is able to accumulate and travel out of state due to work and family obligations. He won't be going to EVO this year since he couldn't afford it. :/

ha no infrit hype.

Wentinel, Y2J, Marn, heck even Paradigm will all probably finish higher than Infrit.

Zak Bennet is in a tough spot because he has Moonz in his pool, and from what I heard he plays AE2012 a lot more than UMvC3 nowadays. Tokido isn't that good in UMvC3, the one guy you shouldn't leave out is Kazunoko who could very well be Japan's best hope. He's like PR Rog expect he drops no combos.

It's a matter of brackets man, most of those players are around the same skill level.

Fanatiq got hit by a tough bracket and was put up against the Mexicans, two wild cards no one had seen before. While Fanatiq was looking good last EVO, this year he might do even worse so don't hold your breath for him.

MarlinPie has always been a hot and cold type player anyway so this was not shocking.

Clockwork getting bopped by Mamespider was unexpected no question about it, I would've expected him to go higher.

Richard Nguyen between Vanilla and Ultimate got a little side tracked with real life stuff so his performance was expected. Now though he is looking in good shape with a strong team suited to his playstyle (btw you never asked me about Zero/Dante/Strider, I think that's like a 9/10 minimum).

Rog had an absolutely shit team for EVO. People used to berate on me for calling out PRRog's bad team because he managed to still get wins but EVO was a wake up call for him. Immediately he went in the lab and came up with his current team. He should go much further this year that is for sure unless of course he gets hit by a tough bracket.

Zak Bennet got a tough ass pool which is what happened to Abegen as well. He was in a pool of death and not only that but he had to face off against another FB player IIRC. This year though because he got a bunch of seed points his pool should be a breeze for him, I like him for top 32 this time around.

The players who made top 32 from that list are good enough to make top 32 as they have placed before.

Tokido recently played against Justin Wong at some International tournament (SEA I think?). He got bopped by Justin of course but was still looking decent. Zak Bennet is Europe's finest along with White Black. Zak Bennet has played against competent players before and has done well against them, at least in casuals and long sets though so you know he has the skill and tech.

Nemo has match up knowledge... I am more concerned about the fact that he doesn't like using snap back at all which will bite him in the ass. Dude just oozes confidences, not a single fuck is given when he is playing the game.

KoF before Smash and Injustice, what the fuck are you doing Evo organizers. KoF was more hype then Marvel and SF last year way to blow it.

That sucks he can't go. The best part of Evo is seeing the players you've never seen before do really well like Frutsy

All due respect cause that's an awesome write up, but Yipes in A-tier is pure fan-boyism. He definitely does not have the skill to beat any top player right now...I mean, there are chances that his residual skill helps them, but who would put a bet on that guy against another top player right now? They could hang with him even when he was in practice. Marriage planning nerf coupled with EMP de-buff wrapped up in not practicing the game and not liking it either. We'd all like him to be on his game, but he is not A-tier going into this Evo.

Triforce did his "State of the Empire address:"

summary:
-They raised $400 dollars in that donation stream he did with Jaxel.

-VxG came thru with the money, EMP is going to EVO, some or all of the money from the donation stream is being refunded.

-Dieminion is back with VxG, $1500 he raised is being refunded according to Triforce.

-Some crazy Illuminati talk

-Blows up Jailhouse, that's why Jailhouse deleted his thread. Jailhouse is still going to VxG.

KOF timing was pretty bad last year, and KOF being hype came out of the blue. Why not give Smash and Injustice a chance for people to see it at a good time?

Crisis averted it seems. A whole of drama for nothing.

Evo Staff is already giving KOF preferential treatment, since if it were about number of entries, SFxT would be on Sunday instead.

lol

so do we get to go back and blow up the people calling these guys criminals or...no didn't think so

Anybody have any information on the side tournaments? I already have all the Skullgirls stuff. Just need information on any others, particularly ST, VF and whatever games.

Man these guys are bloody optimistic in the finals timing; KOF will probably take 3 hours to finish while Smash will take 4 hours. With AE supposedly being 3 out of 5 in top 8 I think EVO wouldn't be finish by the time midnight comes.

The team is fully optimized for Wolverine on point with the best beam in the game and Rapid Slash which is both great as a mix up tool and combo extension. Doom works well with Rapid Slash in terms of mix ups, keep away and gets full combo off of his THC with Vergil as well as guaranteed TODs. Vergil also makes great use of the Plasma Beam but more importantly is in the anchor position.

And then you add the fact that this team features Derp Kick, YOLO Foot Dive and Gilga Helm Breakah all in one team for MAXIMUM DERP. Most top players consider this an end game team and I agree. The format for the rating was that end game team means it's 10/10 as it's very difficult to improve on what this team offers specifically.
That team is definitely not optimized for Wolverine. Rapid Slash is mediocre for him. An optimized Wolverine team would give him an anti-air.

Yep. KoF spot (and the rest of the Sunday schedule bar KI promotion) makes a lot of sense to me.

Only thing that doesn't make sense is that much time for MK considering the number of entrants and its turnout last year, but there's not much to be done about that.

And Mike Ross is in EMP. I'd be holding those horses.

Meanwhile this is what the final day could look like based on KOF being 3 hours last year and marvel taking 2.5 hours. Then you add in a bit of downtime, gathering players etc. Really no idea how long Smash takes but from what I've seen it could be lengthy (and you can't expect it to go super smooth).

10:00AM KOF
1:00PM Smash
4:00PM Injustice
7:30PM Killer Instinct
8:30PM Marvel
11:00PM AE
12:45AM close

Smash will defo take more than 3 hours if they are planning to show top 8 (I hope they only show top 4 because of that). And again AE is 3 out of 5 so it'll probably take more than 3 hours to finish too.

It's going to be miserable if AE starts at 11pm again.

Smash might have a Doubles side tournament on Saturday depending on TVs and when its Quarters/Semis finish. Which would be streamed on vgbootcamp that day. Otherwise, I guess if doubles doesn't happen they would do some kind of regional exhibition or something.

That team is definitely not optimized for Wolverine. Rapid Slash is mediocre for him. An optimized Wolverine team would give him an anti-air.
Nah Rapid Slash is amazing for Wolverine, both for incoming mix ups and locking them down in the corner just for an instant overhead.

Wolverine only needs two types of assists to be optimum... one assist to combo off of Berserker Slash or to make it safe (which Plasma Beam does for him) and one that allows for corner mix ups and combo extensions which Rapid Slash provides. The only way this could be more optimum for Wolverine is if instead of Vergil you had Shuma Gorath for the Mystic Ray but I mean... I would much rather have anchor Vergil than anchor Shuma. That's why the team is 10/10, is because you cannot improve on the team for what it does. If you say replace Doom with Iron Man, that's a worse off team or if you replace Doom with Dante or Vergil with Akuma.

Dante, Trish and Strider way too low. Fuck da haterz.

Doom WAY WAY WAY too high. Doom is the ultimate anti hype character. Anytime something hype is about to happen he denies with Missiles.

I think regular Jean Grey is hype as fuck. Dark Phoenix is pretty anti hype though.

Hulk is not hype at all. Phoenix Wright is like triple S tier hype, Thor should be top tier and watching Moonz Nova is tye hypest.

LOL at the jin's and Ragna's

strider or dante?
Dante or Shuma-Gorath.

Edit: Maybe RR with log trap.

I didn't say that the team would be better, I said it is not optimized for Wolverine. And it is not. Jam Session or Mystic Ray would be way better for him in all regards over Rapid Slash. Would the team be better? Probably not, but it would be more optimzed for Wolverine play.

Why is Dante so low on that list?

And awesome Ghost Rider play would be hype
Because people like to hate on trenchcoat, sword normal and DMC characters. Unsurprisingly all those characters are bottom tier.

Good Dante play is the epitome of hype. The movement, the specials, the swag, the combos... beautiful. You can't tell me that you didn't get hyped for Green Ace going to work with Dante at CEO.

Dormammu should be way lower this year in hypeness. He's no longer as fresh as he was last year, he should sit where Ghost Rider is. In fact, I'd even move Ghost Rider up a little because not many people use him anymore and to see one get off on someone would be hype.

Yea, Dante should be much higher as should Arthur.

Doom is low tier hype, like the lowest.

Point Strider is really hype too.

Chris is way more hype than that.

Ghost Rider would be hype if someone found some way to make him a gigantic pain in the ass that could take on top players.

in fact, a whole bunch of those characters just seem thrown on the bottom of the list, but if someone came out strong with a rare character like Tron, X23, She-Hulk, or Hsien-Ko, it'd be extremely hype.

I love how there's a perpetual optimism about Daigo. He might just be too old now, you know.

and he's playing Ryu. he's top 8 probs, but he's not winning it.

Same goes for Yipes optimism.

Get the fuck over it, people. lol
