What I mean is that the multiplayer mode is something completely secondary to the main game. It's not multiplayer focused like CoD or Mario Kart. It's not even on the level of Uncharted's multiplayer. I doubt people will be spending tons of time on it. I may be wrong though, I'm not pretending to know. Just going by what I've seen of it.
I'd rather Sakurai focus on the game.

It'd be wonderful if they were that involved, but I think it's pretty clear supporting Melee at EVO isn't too high on their list, as they were unaware enough of its happening to allow yesterday's shenanigans to occur. If they had unveilings or any kind of community support on their agenda, I don't think they would have taken those actions, whether they were accidental or otherwise.

I was talking about Smash in general and not EVO.
We don't know yet, but if I recall correctly, they did state that they might not be coming out at the same time. So Wii U might come out before 3DS or vice versa.

Based on what Sakurai has said, it almost seems certain that they won't release at the same time, and that the 3DS version would be the one being delayed if anything.

Yeah, I mean it's really just a somewhat troubling situation for any Nintendo fan, and it hits the hardest for Smash fans in particular. The Youtube stuff was worrisome, the region locking stuff is frustrating, and yesterday was a push in both directions. Hopefully, they learn from yesterday's three-hour debacle and start to get a little more in-tune with their fanbase and decide to embrace these things instead of taking the "big company" stance and defending their brands so hard-handedly that it hampers fans from sharing their love of the franchises around the web.
It's just scary when a company starts being something other than what it sells. Nintendo sells itself as being as friendly as its games are, and in a lot of ways, they are. But lately they've just been showing some sides that have given plenty of people reason to be confused and upset.

Yeah, I think that's another aspect of it. Nintendo Directs have been such a wonderful thing, because they come off as being very transparent and, well, direct. But then things like this happen and we're left with no explanation and no honest answers. Earthbound release stuff also comes to mind. So it makes for a very confusing profile of the company, and just some unfortunate inconsistencies. If they put out a small statement just saying, "Sorry, a new guy in legal thought he was taking the right action" or something as simple as that, it would be so much easier to forgive. But Nintendo never apologizes.

Unless they're collaborating behind the scenes, I don't think that'll happen.
Mario Galaxy came out a month or so before Brawl was supposed to launch, and there is zero reference to mario galaxy in Brawl. Mario Galaxy was revealed around the same time as Brawl, yet sakurai chose not to make any reference to that game whatsoever.
That said, it would be a way to make the new IP more relevant and visible. People might not buy it until they play smash and go 'oh i like this guy I want to play his game', so that would be good advertising. (Think Pikmin trophy in Melee).

We haven't been given any reason to expect reveals on any periodic basis, or to really expect anything besides screenshots for the time being. I'm guessing there will be a Smash Direct sometime in the coming months where they'll give us a better idea of how the info trickle will work.

I thought it was Volt Tackle at first. Sun Salutation makes for a good fit, especially since it's night in that picture so I don't believe it could be the sun in the background.

I'd replay the game at least once more if it had a co-op mode online, and I'd probably play a bunch of that head to head collect-a-thon mode online too.
Having every multiplayer mode being local only is useless to me, so I probably wont be able to experience part of the game because none of my friends know or care enough
about Pikmin to want to play. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person I know that bought the first two Pikmin games, so having an online mode where I could play with people from GAF or random people would get me more enjoyment out of the game.

No, but Gamescom is in August and Nintendo is going to be there. The NDs are always bi-monthly, so August would be the next month. I imagine there will be some sort of direct.

I usually avoid the character pandering and character shitting message boards as they don't really provide meaningful discussion.
Boils down to
Fan 1: I want this character
Fan 2: lolno we need more females
Fan 1: lolno they have too many reps already
Fan 2: lolno your character can't fight
as well as the nonsense around certain characters being too big or too small to fight correctly or too many characters with pointed sticks or lame arguments on character uniqueness and so on and so forth.
All in all it's best to ignore it if nothing is obviously plausible.
