Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Captain N is a terrible choice. Most of the world didn't grow up with him. Also we already have a Nintendo cartoon reference already: The Eddie the Yeti colour scheme from the DKC show. (which is likely to be replaced by Super Kong)

Geno back up in this thread lol

Professor Layton should easily be a shoe in, his franchise is exclusive to nintendo systems and he's been in a number of games

I hope we at least get stages on characters that don't make it.

Punch out stage of the bike training stage with lots of cars passing you and little mac and the trainer rushing in to fight random people

Little Mac reduced to background character ;p

I don't even get what was so appealing about Geno in the first place. That's not to say he won't be in, in a world where we have Wii Fit Trainer who fucking knows, but I surmise his chances ain't high.

Did you absolutely love Super Mario RPG? If you did, you'll probably get what's so appealing and if you didn't, well, then that is most likely why you don't get it.

That said, Mallow > Geno

These two really are perfect for alternate costumes. Really hope they make it.

You guys realize that Olimar is top tier in Brawl, right? He's #3 right now. He doesn't need buffs at all. If you give him no weaknesses he'll be just as overpowered as Meta Knight.

Right, but you're also assuming that the new physics and potentially lower Pikmin cap won't play havoc with the current tiering.

I never got to finish Mario RPG when I played it like 10 years ago since my save file messed up, but I remember it being pretty fun. In fact, I should work on completing that as the next game I need to beat.

There are a lot of Mario characters on the Smash list already, though.

Never thought about that, but I kinda expected the show aired in all big courties of NA and Western Europe.
Also, most of the world didn't grow up with Fire Emblem Characters, and Earthbound was kinda limited too.

I loved Super Mario RPG but in retrospect, I find Geno to be an extremely overrated character for the amount of fan-love he gets and how often people ask for him to join the Smash Bros roster (seriously, I've been hearing this argument since Melee!) Even among original characters created for LotSS, Mallow is a more interesting character with a more interesting backstory and he actually undergoes a degree of character growth unlike the pretty static Geno. But, I digress.

It's pretty amazing how many times on that GT list that they showed a name and I immediately shook my head. Some sort of Tetris rep I could understand, but not "Tetris-Man." Belmont is sensible but unlikely, Little Mac had better be in and I think Layton would be fun and certainly is worthy of a spot given his international popularity and association with Nintendo handhelds (which is more relevant than ever now that Smash itself is getting a portable release). The rest of that list gets a big thumbs-down from me.

Then again, I want to see a choice as obscure as Skapon to get in, so what do I know?

Sadly, neither Crono, Sora, Layton or Geno belong to videogame history next to the likes of Mega Man, Sonic and Snake.
Besides, Sora would bring copyright HELL because of the Disney atachment.

Layton is one of the best selling series on the DS, with Layton 1/2/3 actually being the 2nd,3rd and 4th best selling 3rd party game on the DS (Behind dragon quest 9) according to wiki. (Although both it and Dragon quest were published by Nintendo in the west). The 4th game was 7th behind cooking mama and Final Fantasy 3 (assuming I didn't miss any in the list).

Really, he was quite important to the success of the DS (Layton was always fairly heavily promoted in DS advertisements in the UK) and is more deserving of a place than someone like Geno.

That's Super Kong from DKCReturns, he's the super guide for that game.

I just realized that Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures is coming to Wii U this Fall.
On the one hand, this would make for some good cross promotion for the game (both SSB and the new Pac-Man one) and that Disney XD show, but I really hope they don't go with that design and try for something more classic/traditional.

Yeah, that's what I meant. After Olimar got announced, so I have to look at possibilities.

Sonic Lost World
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
Pokemon X and Y
Wii Fit U
Super Mario 3D World
Mario and Luigi 4: Dream Team
Mario and Sonic at the Sochi Olympic 2014
Wonderful 101
Earthbound VC
New Super Luigi Bros.
Wii Party U
Wii Sport U
Mario Kart 8
X
Yoshi's Land
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem
Daigassou! Band Brothers 3DS
Mario Party 3DS
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Yoshi's New Island

That's Kurto's fault, I was busy trying to find the right image since the first one I found like inverted colors each time I saved it. (which by the way the inverted one is far more awful looking)

damn you, Kurto!

actually I had just awoken, so looking in on the thread to immediately see that thing without any context whatsoever was, to put it lightly, horrifying. ;b

I looked that up and found this.

Looks like Pac-Man is teaming up with Pac-Goth and Pac-Raddish.

Teen Pac-Man is one of the worst ideas ever conceived in the game industry. I'm sure that (if at all) Sakurai will use the classic, matured version of the character and generally disregard Namco's nonsense. The design itself isn't all that bad in my opinion, but Pac-Teen's attitude is just awkward. Perhaps something inspired from SFxTK Pac-Man is the way to go; modern without being silly.

Well one could say the same about Megaman, Sonic or Snake, no? Especially since I doubt Square has a problem letting Nintendo use such an old and forgotten character.
The difference is that Mega Man, Sonic, and Snake are the mascots (officially or unofficially) of their respective companies, whereas Geno is the fourth or fifth most important character in a single game. If Sakurai is going to go through the effort of including a Square Enix rep, it'll be someone from Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy.

The characters you've listed have been relevant in recent years. Geno hasn't been relevant since the 90s, and he only made a full, non-cameo appearance in one game.

I don't care about Geno, but how does not being relevant in recent years stop him from appearing?

We have plenty of characters in Smash Bros. that haven't been relevant for years.

That sure makes sense, I didn't look at it that way, though Geno has a pro: being in a Mario game, published by Nintendo, unlike all the other FF characters. Though now I kind of agree that it'd be difficult to see him in.

" hey you know who should be in this game, that one guy from that one mario rpg who wasn't main character, that wasn't made by us, and its not even the most popular or best mario rpg nor is he the most popular Mario rpg character. Yeah that guy"

Sakurai: Wat.

Well I'm in the UK and I don't rememeber it when growing up and I watched the two Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons and Mario shows. But on the flipside I never saw the Zelda show but I was aware of its existence. First time I heard of Captain N was online from Americans and on top of that the Wikipedia article doesn't seem to list anything for it outside of the N.Americas.

Most of those are Nintendo characters who still headlined in older series.

It's true, but if Geno is highly requested, I don't think his relevancy would hurt his chances even if he isn't the main character. High requests is the only reason Megaman was considered.

This is assuming that that is the only reason he would be considered. I agree that they aren't just going to pull Geno out of nowhere when thinking of new Mario characters to add. It's just if Sora considers him because of how highly requested he is, I doubt they'll ignore him on the grounds of him "not being relevant." That never stopped them.

By the way, I'm not expecting Geno at all nor am I expecting any Square Enix character.

its not even the most popular or best mario rpg nor is he the most popular Mario rpg character.

Well, that's debatable... ;)

Also I'm sure Sakurai is well aware of the many fans who are requesting him and/or Mallow to be in. Moreover he'd be perfect as a fighter, his moveset is basically already done.

You can't safely say that Geno is highly requested, though. Loudly requested by a small, vocal fanbase, sure, but most people have never even heard of him. It's also worth mentioning that Geno's fanbase has all but disappeared since the Brawl days anyway.
