Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

I can see this working quite well.
Maybe a little bigger than Charizard but I think that's a decent size.

Charizard isn't that big though. Only about 5'7'' according to its pokedex data. That's human height.

Ridley, first game aside, has always been portrayed as like 3x bigger than Samus

Animal Crossing Villager.
Well as a character you perform many actions with him. There's quite a lot of inspiration for moves.

However throughout Ridley's many incarnations he has basically just flown, grabbed things and spat fire (it's been so long I can't even remember if I remembering this right). He would clearly need more thought put into him. I suppose he can attack with his tail spike. How many moves did he have in Brawl anywho?

And yes I know someone will bring up Captain Falcon but he is clearly a massive exception. I wouldn't be surprised if most of his moves were from the game Smash Bros started life as.

And the Wii Fit Trainer.

Looks like a lot of potential moves to me

Yeah, but those reasons alone aren't very compelling ones to put him in Smash. I don't know, just seems like there are more inspired/appropriate choices out there. But like I said, if he gets in, I'll be curious to see how he plays!
I don't get why people say if a character isn't a fighter they won't be in Smash. Ridley was in Brawl, just not as a fighter. Smash has many ways to represent characters and games and some are better suited for other jobs.

There are a lot of characters like that, Zelda barely did much and both her forms got a lot of new moves for Smash. Then you have Ice Climbers, ROB, Starfox characters, and a bunch of other characters that have different movesets than you would expect. (Ness using different PK moves for one)

Ridley would be fun with grab moves like Ganondorf's up-B and side-B, but taken to another level. A lot of tail, wing and fire moves too. It doesn't sound exciting on paper but they could do a lot with it.

Never said it couldn't be done, just silly to bring up Animal Crossing villager as an example of a character without many moves to begin with. Zelda is a much better example, or even Bowser since they are both bosses whose moves have stayed similar throughout their game appearances.

Is Wind Waker Link in?
I have the list of characters right here but I'd be sued into oblivion if I answered this question.

I think he can even be bigger than that and function well.

Move set is no issue at all considering Sakurai saw fit to give him many attacks from Dyna Blade. Then you have so many Metroids to pull moves from, they are very Bowser like but so what?

My issue with the size issue is how extremely small characters can grow and just be accepted while bigger ones getting smaller are looked at as some abomination. Was there no one else who thought Olimar looked extremely unnatural fighting with the rest of the cast? I never looked at Kirby the same way again once I realized how tiny he and his crew actually were and every time I look at Squirtle hugging Pokemon Trainer I just think "holy crap Squirtle is huge" but I don't really care cause its Smash. Just a bunch of toys and figures fighting.

Just because X character is portrayed with X size doesn't mean it can't be resized.

Bowser, Olimar, Pikachu, etc are the best examples. My point is that Charizard is a good way to meassure a "possible" Ridley appearance. Make him bigger (enough to respect the Metroid canon) and call it a day.

I don't see Ridley making his way to Smash as a playable character so I won't argue the same over and over again.

We'll see tho. Wii Fit Trainer and Villager are proof that anything can happen.

Earthbound characters have big heads. They should be prone to gravity. Which is why size doesn't matter much. Because honestly who cares?

I just think people for some reason don't want to play as a Space Dragon. Which is incredibly asinine. To me.

But Wind Waker Link is referred as Toon Link and just look at the image URL.
Technically it is Toon Link because it covers the art style used in other games like the Minish Cap and Four Swords. Hence the alt colour choices as well. So no it isn't Wind Waker Link.
Only important URL is that of the original image on the Smash Bros website and that calls the image "screen-10.jpg"

Touche. Worthy Adversary.

It's shocking to still see people mention Ridley's size as a reason to why he's not in Smash. Do these same people realize that Kirby is only 6 inches tall and Bowser is gigantic in most of the Mario games?

Ridley can absolutely work in a Smash game B]

If Ridley was a girl they probably wouldn't put up much of a fight against his inclusion.

Maybe

That's never been the issue people have had with the size of the smashers; they're from different franchises. The argument has always been about his size relative to Samus

I would absolutely love to have Ridley, even despite what I see as valid concerns about his size.

I don't play enough Metroid games to know, so I'm curious. Does he often talk? Or is it more just weird dragon screeches?

To be fair, all the back-and-forth in every "I want this character!" "No! He wouldn't work because reasons!" "But he would because other reasons!" "But my reasons are better than your reasons!" "Nuh-uh!" "Yuh-huh!" discussion is asinine altogether.

Of course.

Which I retort "Perhaps you should tweet Mr. Sakurai".

Yeah.

I also mentioned Mario vs Bowser in my post:

Just about every Mario game, Bowser is HUGE compared to Mario.

Ridley should be in. Any of the Hunters (including the ones from MP3) should be in. Basically anyone except for Adam Malkovich should be in

The sizes of the Pokémon in Smash Bros. are all off. Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Squirtle, and Lucario (yes, Lucario is actually pretty short) are bigger then they should be in Brawl. Ivysaur and Charizard are about right (actually, Charizard may even be a bit smaller than it should be).

I really like that there's some variety in the characters used at EVO. It's not just a Star Fox fest; Wobbles is Ice Climbers, Ice is Pikachu, Hungrybox is Jigglypuff and Armada is Peach, and they're all frighteningly good with them. (I think there's a Captain Falcon in there, too, but I forget who.)

My internet messed up for the stream today. =(

I am super hyped to see the finals, though!

Melee has a diverse metagame which is nice. I recall playing Peach back in the day (when I was very young), and my friends at the time would like, get insulted when they lost to Peach because the whole losing to a female and to a female character nonsense.

Finding out a few years ago she's high tier was kind of shocking for me, and made a lot sense. Haha.

I never understood the clamoring for Ridley as a playable character in Smash. Just don't see the appeal. I won't be sad or bitter or anything if he's announced -- I'm not AGAINST it -- I just don't get why some people want him so badly.

Metroid deserves more representation than just Samus and Samus in her Underwear.

Its either Ridley or Dark Samus

The internet believes that Nintendo's Japanese office doesn't acknowledge the existence of Retro Studios.

seriously though, Ridley and Mother Brain are the key villains of one of Nintendo's most cherished franchises, and Mother Brain would be a terible fighter.

A little off topic and thinking out of the box as well as quite unlikely, but do you think that the 2-3 second clips of Link, Samus, Kirby, etc. introducing the characters and series they are from contain glimpses of the future of those series - I'm probably way off and they are just promotional work or apart of one of the cutscenes in Adventure Mode?

But maybe it could have taken a few design ideas from the teams working on the real games...

For example, the structure of Hyrule and Design of the castle in this picture from the very short Zelda clip - is the design like this in any 3D Zelda games of the past:

riQhrbL.jpg

And in the Metroid picture - what type of location would this be in in the Metroid universe, it looks like a futuristic brightly colored industrial building:

That Hyrule Castle is definitely from Twilight Princess. The Samus scene looks nearly straight out of Other M.

I wouldn't look too close into them.

Are we back on Ridley again -_-

Still sticking by my earlier post on this topic

Why all that effort retooling a character who's already bigger than Samus who herself is one of the tallest characters in the game (Her head nearly touches the bottom of the platforms in Battlefield -_-) when the other hunters are all just sitting there with viable movesets....

Rundas
Gandraya
Sylux
Ghor
Weavel
Trace
Noxus

7 perfectly viable characters that you don't have to worry about height issues as much as Ridley or possibly being a beefed up clone Ganon style (Dark Samus). Im not buying that too obscure to use idea either.

Fire Emblem
Earthbound
Kid Icarus

All 3 of those series were not exactly household names when they received characters, granted those are entire series vs individual characters in a series but point stands being obscure should not be a reason to not include characters that are much better suited for SSB rather than shoehorning one that clearly isn't and has already been established as a Boss character in a previous game.

Also Bowser vs Mario is different to this, Mario's height compared to Samus is what allows Bowser to work. Bowser can still be clearly taller than Mario without being overly huge. Ridley's height is already handicapped by how tall Samus already is in.
