Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

I just hope theres no leveling up. Not in mah Smash.Ever.

I think he probably just talking about different clothes you can buy with in game points and put on your character like Tekken.

He already confirmed that customization wouldn't be custom outfits.

(Though before we open that can of worms again, it was worded in such a way to not deconfirm the possibility of alternate costumes)

Unless it's for Mii, similar to Mario Tennis Open, he said clothing wasn't it.

As for stickers, I wouldn't mind them outside of Single Player as long as it's only in a certain mode. Make it its own special mode, like Sticker Mode.

He also sounded like there was some form of cross-functionality between the two versions(possibly regarding said customization) and I'm not quite sure what he means by this.

We know it isn't cross-play.

Eh I don't see him doing this in the Wii U version considering it would compromise the aspect of having friends over and just picking up the game and having fun. The way he made it sound, it's exclusive to the 3DS because that is a more personalized platform than the Wii U. (due to it being a handheld)

I guess it's not going to happen now, but I always liked the idea of adding meters and assist characters to smash.

I think it would be a nice compromise if you could select from 50 main characters and then say another 50 or more as a secondary assist character that you could burn some meter to call in your assist to do an assist attack, so basically a weaker version of the assist trophy that you could use at will, provided you had the meter for it.

And them being an ability instead of an item would mean you'd actually see them used at tourneys, could make for cool combos too.

But I guess meters and assists are too close to fighting game mechanics for the majority of people to want in smash.

Because a lot of people like being able to play as the antagonists of the series?

Smash is the only game where you'd realistically be able to play as characters such as Ganondorf, Ridley and K. Rool, without them being in some weird spinoff puzzle platformer or something that has no relevance to their actual games.

Who wants to play as Mewtwo or Ganondorf anyway?

What does this have to do with what I said about being able to accurately portray Ridley as he appears in the Metroid games? I love Metroid, it's my favorite Nintendo franchise after Mario. And if Sakurai figures out a way to make Ridley work while not gimping his representation, great. But I have no interest in playing as scrunched up aborted Ridley that doesn't do good by the character. Same reason I'm not thrilled about the idea of Palutena being playable when I'd rather have her in a guest appearance speaking role on a Kid Icarus stage, even though I think she's one of the best characters to ever appear in a Nintendo game and there's enough there to draw on to make her playable

Do we reckon 3DS will have online?

I say yes, since Sakurai's online for KI:U went well, so they can just pick up from there really.

It'd kill the experience without any online.

It will have online.

Only reason Brawl's was bad was because it was rushed. You see games like Mario Kart and Kid Icarus generally having good online. So I think it's safe to say both games will have an online mode.

Is Ganondorf accurately presented?

Maybe it was just all talk or maybe Nintendo shot him down, heck maybe we haven't even seen it yet, but I'm a little bit disappointed that Sakurai's statement that he would be changing the fundamentals of Smash didn't ring true when I saw the game's reveal. He said something like Brawl was just more of a good thing but he wanted to do something different this time, and well the game looks pretty much exactly the same as every other Smash Bros in terms of how it plays.

Edit: About online, I trust Namco Bandai to serve us a serviceable online component for this game, at least more than Nintendo would be capable of.

I looked at the Smash Bros 4 reveal as more of a teaser then a trailer. I would like to think Sakurai has a few more Ace's in his deck of cards.

I'm hoping the announcement schedule is something along these lines:

I would be happy with spaced out reveals, but I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to just dump 10 characters on us during a Nintendo Direct and then have us wait 4 months.

It doesn't seem like they have a schedule which will make it monthly. It seems they will reveal a character if it has relevance to a game being released.

I think he was probably just talking about different clothes you can buy with in game points and put on your character like Tekken.

Sakurai has directly denied that kind of customization due to making characters generic.

I don't remember Sakurai saying that. In fact, before the E3 reveal, there were some IGN articles with some Sakurai quotes, and in one of them he talked about not changing the core of Smash and about how they had already found their audience.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/08/07/masahiro-sakurai-talks-super-smash-bros-4

But while Sakurai admits the company needs to adapt to incorporate new controller options, he's adamant the rest of the game doesn't need to change to remain fresh. Having had three very successful entries in the franchise, the former Project Sora boss feels the series has found its target audience, meaning introducing gimmicks would hinder rather than help the brand.

"The game system itself is complete, so we don’t want to make it 3D or introduce complicated controls just for the sake of it," he said. "However, I am thinking of ways we can introduce a slightly different, fun experience all the while keeping the usual frantic game play."

The sizes of the Pokémon in Smash Bros. are all off. Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Squirtle, and Lucario (yes, Lucario is actually pretty short) are bigger then they should be in Brawl. Ivysaur and Charizard are about right (actually, Charizard may even be a bit smaller than it should be).

I'm just recounting how the actual argument goes, is all.

Are we back on Ridley again -_-

Still sticking by my earlier post on this topic

Why all that effort retooling a character who's already bigger than Samus who herself is one of the tallest characters in the game (Her head nearly touches the bottom of the platforms in Battlefield -_-) when the other hunters are all just sitting there with viable movesets....

Rundas
Gandraya
Sylux
Ghor
Weavel
Trace
Noxus

7 perfectly viable characters that you don't have to worry about height issues as much as Ridley or possibly being a beefed up clone Ganon style (Dark Samus). Im not buying that too obscure to use idea either.

Fire Emblem
Earthbound
Kid Icarus

All 3 of those series were not exactly household names when they received characters, granted those are entire series vs individual characters in a series but point stands being obscure should not be a reason to not include characters that are much better suited for SSB rather than shoehorning one that clearly isn't and has already been established as a Boss character in a previous game.

Also Bowser vs Mario is different to this, Mario's height compared to Samus is what allows Bowser to work. Bowser can still be clearly taller than Mario without being overly huge. Ridley's height is already handicapped by how tall Samus already is in.

I love Rundas as much as the next guy, but no way any of the (one off) hunters are making it before Dark Samus, the key villain of 3 games. And the 3 games you mentioned are not comparable at all, since they haven't any of their side characters along the lines of the hunters included in smash.

@NeonZ, I think it's good Sakurai plans for each game to be different from one another, even if "slightly". It makes all the games in the series feel like their own games and not just incremental sequels that make the prior games obsolete. I think all the Smash Brothers games have their merits and are all still enjoyable games (Except maybe Vanilla Brawl but Project M makes up for it).

I'd like that. Well, the daily photos are nice though. I hope they'll continue adding small details on each of them.

Well, that's only happened once, so it's too early to say if that's going to be the case moving forward. Most characters don't even have an upcoming game to promote.

This so bad. The 3DS version looks stunning. Doesn't he release a screenshot everyday of the week?

That'd rock. What is the SSBB online limit? Is it 4 fighters? I forgot.

Screenshots are uploaded every weekday. They're never posted on weekends.

And yes, Brawl allowed up to four players online.

Same here. I really like the timeline since it seem to be reasonable schedule but I'm not sure about that amount of newcomers.

Basically you put down 25 veterans characters and 10 newcomer characters so we will have 35 starter characters. I would be okay with it, but I would rather to see more veteran characters as starter characters and save newcomers for secret characters so we wouldn't dread the moment to unlock some veteran characters. However, they need to show more newcomers to convince people to buy Smash. It's sticky situation.

Also Oct 2014 as release date so that's not bad date. I would predict that they are going to release the game during week of Sept 23 2014.

I think one of Brawl's problems was that most of the interesting newcomers were available at the start.

Reginleiv was a Wii Exclusive game only released in Japan. The name literally meant "The Slashing of the Gods".

It was much like a musou game but with 2 characters and multiple weapons.

Actually, Reginleif is the name of a valkyrie. I think it translates to something like "inherited divine power" but it's a proper noun, so that doesn't really matter.

Metroid as a whole basically only exists in the West. Prime or no Prime. I think the original game was by far the most popular in Japan.

Hope Sakurai does away with the bullshit unlocking of 3rd party characters. Its dumb to hype up these characters for a year and put them on the box only to make the player have to spend hours to get them. If newcomers shown before release are part of the starting roster then let the same happen for Mega Man.

Alternatively, it'd be nice to have more ways to unlock them in standard multiplayer matches beside "play X many Brawls."

Well, you only needed 15 battles in Snake's stage to unlock him in Brawl. Sonic took longer though (beat Classic mode with 10 characters).

My bros and I started Brawl from scratch the other weekend, and unlocked Sonic before we did Snake (and all by means of Brawls, too). I think Sonic has an arbitrary way of being unlocked that hasn't yet been truly defined. I know for a fact I got him within the first 60 Brawls.
