Evolution 2013 IOT2I Gods Among Losers Final Day - July 14th

I'm imagining the world where Nintendo got behind Smash this year and brought, let's say, the Megaman trailer with them instead of dropping that at E3.

Nintendo wouldn't have gotten behind a 12 year old game. Also if they didn't drop the Mega Man trailer at E3 then their E3 conference would have outright sucked. I think doing Mega Man at E3 gave them more press, though the reaction at EVO would have been insane.

Ideally Nintendo would have brought a build of Smash 4 for people to play at EVO and announced a couple new characters, but again I can't see them getting behind a Melee tournament unless they do a Melee rerelease.

isn't the Capcom Cup only SFIV/MVC3? Pretty big blow against SFxT... don't think interest in that game will last into next year, especially if
news of a marvel update comes through

What happens with KI is pretty much impossible to predict for now. The game is still changing, we have only seen a few characters, and the final release may play pretty different from what we've already seen. Quality aside, it's the first next gen fighter which could be good or bad. Good in the sense that it gives the XB1 an advantage over getting a FG install base first, but it's pretty clear most want to go PS4 already so it could hurt it just as well. Too hard to call. I would still bet on it being at next evo.

Otherwise, Marvel and Ultra SF4 are obvious. SFxT I have no idea, it seemed really swept under the rug compared to everything else and I'm not sure if the community will have staying power with the negative rep it has.

Mortal Kombat is getting the boot but Injustice will be safe.

Persona will be out, BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma as a replacement. I don't think GG will be out by then.

what.

edit: oh, they're not playing Sanic anymore

Not going to bother to do timestamps for day 3. In my opinion you should watch all of it, no matter what game you initially came for.

I've never been prouder to rock the bewildered s-kill avatar. Evo is unreal.

Huge congrats to Flocker. Anyone else notice that all 3 Evo champions are/were Phoenix players. EVEN IN DEATH SHE LIVES. ALWAYS BET ON RED!

Haha! Oh Jay.

Well I wanted to go to bed after Marvel as it was getting to 6AM here but ended up sitting through AE in the end. What an absolutely amazing EVO, I've only been watching it since 2010 but since then their hype levels have been getting nuttier by the year. Fantastic stuff.

I really just might have to make it out to the next one even with my phobia of crowds because frankly, not being able to scream out loud at 5AM over upsets wasn't helping my heart at all.

SFXT is also part of it based off the EG interview with Matt from Capcom

Honestly if Capcom does release a Marvel patch the game will live on for 2 more years easily at least. It would take half a year just for the tiers to start settling in.

Unless a patch fucks up the game so bad like making Ghost Rider Metaknight tier which would kill the game super fast.

The fact that this year's Evo seemed to run a lot smoother than last years while also adding a bunch of games tells me they're gonna have the same or more amount of games next year. Killer Instinct and Smash are pretty much a lock. I can see everything returning except MK9, which will hopefully at least have a side tournament.

Given their antics last week I can't see them doing anything even remotely resembling being good with the community unless a major shakeup is under way.

They would have been hated on even more during E3.

They get hate no matter what they do at this point. Should've taken the dive!

My brain agrees but my heart wants to think that Nintendo could sponsor. I mean, they did do a 180 rather quickly, and when Brawl came out they had that GameStop tournament thing. Still, either way I can't see them sponsoring any time soon for the reasons I already said: If there's a Smash game next year it'll be Melee, and even if this is some bizarre world where Nintendo sponsors a tournament, they won't sponsor one for Melee.

I'm not sure it would be smart to reveal anything for Smash in front of a crowd as unpredictable as Evo's. Especially if you're delaying Marvel for it.

Awesome numbers. How the hell is Melee that high :lol

Probably a few things, the game was in the spotlight because of the whole Nintendo banning the stream stuff and also the LoL tournament finished during it so it probably got quite a few hits from that as well

This Evo was incredible. Highlights were Justin comeback, Ice Climbers and SSF4 Top8. So which games are gonna make it next year?

UMVC3
USF4
KOF13 (20th Ann?)
Smash?

I don't know if we'll even see a ASW or NetherRealm game next year. I'm sure KI will take one of those slots.

Injustice is pretty much guaranteed to get in. It's not even a question. It will be Ultra, umvc3, injustice, KOF, smash, SFxT, tekken, and at least one anime game like P4A, new GG, BB. Divekick will probably be there unless it dies out before next evo. KI is a possibility too, though I don't know how much MS will push it that far after launch.

I don't know. Even the early build of the new smash looked pretty good. A couple stations at EVO would have drawn a lot of attention.

What's the story there? I went to the store during smash.

They both thought they had one more game to play. The guy sitting down was shocked as hell because he just lost, and was ready for another game.

I can't let my hopes get up, but I feel like the games inclusion on this tournament is like the last glimmer of hope for a patch. When they announced the IPL tournament with no Marvel, it definitely felt dead. Now that Capcom is acknowledging this game again, it makes me wonder.

New GG definitely isn't happening before 2015. More info will be released at E3 2014, remember?
It's going to be either P4A or BB. Then Melty.

I don't think Nintendo would ever sponsor something like EVO, they are obsessed with the image associated to their games = happy families with kids.

Eh I'd say it has more to do with their dedicated following than anything. The numbers dipped quite a bit when Injustice came on after it, then spiked again when it was time for Marvel.

If people are still wondering how combo breakers work in KI, this is what I got.

There are 3 types of moves you can do, all of which you can string together in different variants to make a combo. As a counter to that, there are 3 types of combo breakers.

If you "guess" or "predict" correctly which move your enemy is doing, you can break their combo. Statistically, you have a 33% chance of breaking. If you guess wrong, your character is immobilized for something like 2 seconds (distinguished by the red X and the ! on the character)

Now, they just added a counter to the combo breaker, as shown in the 2nd match on stage. If you know your opponent is going to combo break, you can effectively neutralize that and get a free combo.

What maximillian was doing was the same combo, repeatedly, over and over. Even the commentators brought that up. So what happened? Every time he went in, he got broken.

You can't just do the same combo over and over against a decent player. They'll break you every time. Unless you counter their breaker with a parry.

Don't get me wrong, the game has a ways to go in animations and a few other things...but I'm pretty pumped for it.

On a side note, they REALLY need to nerf Superman in Injustice. Sooooo OP. It's like Kabal without the learning curve or brutal execution. smh...they nerfed other, less broken characters but left Superman untouched. Jesus...

Nintendo sponsors and you're going to only see 4 player FFA with all items and stages enabled. Guaranteed.

Even Playstation All Stars pulled that crap when doing a prerelease sponsored tournament at MLG, and they actually were trying to push it as a legit competitive fighting game in interviews and when they put Seth Killians name behind it.

I wonder what the logistics are like for obtaining Wii Us to run the tourney themselves.
