Fighting Games Weekly | July 15-21 | Post-EVO Pillow Talk

There you are! Dude, I need Dragon's Crown impressions. Just sayin~

I'm waiting for Elena and the return of TK Cannon Strike cheese to get back into SF4 :p
Skilletor has Dragon's Crown impressions? :-O

I saw maximillian like 100 times but never said hi. :-(

I'm still in Vegas. Best evo for me yet. So many good matches. Pretty salty about how I played, but haven't really been practicing all year.
Going to start trying to learn sf4 for real.

I heart the FGC. :-)

Evo being at ballys, but rooms at Paris was super whack, though.
Sounds interesting.

Play the game dood. You'll understand. And to answer your question
October 1994
I played the game back when it was released on the SNES. :-P

I doubt Halo 4 had that many. That was the pre release tournament where teams who had practiced with the leaked game had advantages over teams like Instinct right? I remember it having much less than that. And if it did have that many, it was probably due to a lot of casual Halo fans tuning in because the game wasn't released yet. In any case, Halo 3 did not have many viewers. Its why MLG never released concurrent viewership numbers and always released the total viewership numbers.

Sundance, Puckett, etc.. had always mentioned the small number of viewers Halo would get throughout the years. They did however mention that they would get plenty of competitors and spectators.

Just look at these past articles.

500,000 total viewers - Colombus 2009

http://espn.go.com/espn/thelife/videogames/news/story?id=4222274

750,000 total viewers - 2008

http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/news/mlg-works-with-hp-and-blizzard-entertainment-to-launch-mlg-pc-circuit-2

11,7 million total viewers - entire 2012 MLG season with PC games on board

http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/news/mlg-2012-season-generates-334-growth-in-live-online-viewers

Just look at Evo's 2nd stream which had low numbers compared to the 1st and 3rd Evo streams. 2nd stream had 4.7 million total views

http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/news/mlgs-live-online-broadcast-rivals-traditional-cable-networks-major-sporting-events-in-male-12-34-audience-2

270,000 unique viewers watching an average of 81 minutes. 360,000 hours of video consumed for not just Halo, but all games at MLG. If you have 30k concurrent viewers watching a stream for 10 hours, you get 300k hours of video consumed.

If you say Halo 3 had much more than 40k concurrent viewers, they should get much more than that much hours of video consumed considering that MLG runs for friday through sunday.

Finally, the competitive Halo community was never that big. The MLG playlist regularly only had 7k players at most and the mlg forums were much smaller than the FGC's shoryuken, eventhubs, fgc-gaf, etc... And I'm not even including international communities where Halo only had UK and Australia (both very very small communities) compared to the FGC international communities.

No way did they get more than 10k concurrent viewers.
Once you hit me with that MLG playlist thing I remembered how low that playlist always was. Damn man, I can't believe that it was that low in viewership. Faruq save me. But whatever. Can't wait for Halo 3 to become games on demand for free later this month. Gonna go back into MLG and relive my hardcore H3 days.

joke is on them anyway. no one watched MK and 100k people watched Injustice being boring and getting booed. lol

Geez, calm down dude. Injustice was hype for those who like Injustice and the boos where for the lame Superman (who wasn't that lame IMO, but wherever)

Hate less love more

I posed these questions over on the Arcade Stick thread, but I figured I'd ask them here as well since it's a bit more active. I am thinking about buying a Qanba Q4RAF, and I was wondering about the following:

1. Does the Q4 work with PS2 games on a BC PS3? I have heard conflicting reports on this.
2. Have you experienced any input lag or other problems with the Q4?

Eh, it was Superman getting booed not the game itself. The only game that got hate for existing was KI. The booing every time Xbox One was mentioned/showed was hilarious, as were the chants for Marvel while KI was being played.

Injustice should definitely be 3/5. The game goes very fast, but the damage from interactables is the reason I believe it should be 3/5.

Pretty hype we got through all 3 days without having to restart the stream once, but man the setup Thursday night was such a blow up if only guys knew, its a wonder none of us cracked!

I think this is one of the reasons why the stream hovered around 100k on Sunday. I think if you went down, I don't think it would reach 100k again.

It releases tomorrow right? Anyone knows how much it will be?.

Yeah it releases today and it costs $9.99

Damn, kick51 was going to reach member status tomorrow.

I do. :-)

I recorded a whole playthrough of a level. I'll up it as soon as I get back home tomorrow. :-)
Awesome! Does that mean I can harass you with Q&A? :-D

Edit: Also, extrafresh is down for me. I see that the Denver group gets together every Thursday, but what about folks in Colorado Springs?

I think it's possible that it will be back. There's no other 3d fighters coming out besides DOA5U which probably won't make it unless there's a very unlikely moneyhat.
There's always Tekken Revolution. ;-)

Really though, how is that doing? It came out right when I was moving across the country, so I didn't get to mess with it.

Springs meets at a bar place called fox and the Hound every other Thursday for games. We also meet up at random people's houses. Marvel is popular here, sf just a bit less so.

They're pretty active on facebook for meet ups. You use that? If so, message me your info and I will get you in the group for the springs.

And yeah, i only played it once, but I watched it for a couple hours. The game is going to be sick.

Damn, maybe I shouldn't have closed that tab some time ago with the PM telling him the way he posts sometimes is ban bait.

Bleh, I was just starting to appreciate his obnoxiousness.

Really? I quite enjoyed that Nin vs Knee semifinal. So, will we be seeing more of TTT2 next year?
I stand corrected, actually, it did pull more players than BB that one year.

However, Persona pulled more players than TTT2 this year soo..... I'd expect TTT2 back, but only via Moneyhat.

I haven't touched in a couple weeks but there's supposed to be some big update coming so i assume it's doing fairly well.

It'd be interesting to know how detailed they get in their decisions for what games to have. Does developer interest matter, do they look at unique entrants? I.e., if a game only gets 300 entrants, but none of those entrants entered any other game, does that count for more than say a game where most of their entrants were also in three other games?

Really basic examples, obviously.

It's pretty fun. Invincible moves aren't as game breaking as everybody thought cause they're super punishable on block and you can pretty reliably predict when a scrub player tries to pull it out. The gift point system to unlock new players is really stupid and I hope it changes when the shop opens later this month. Stat allocation system is mostly bad and leads to you getting randomed out by somebody with more time and money than skill on a few occasions.

Really wish the game gave you one premium ticket each day to use. "Defending your ticket" is easily the most fun part of the game.

I don't really see how the way he posts is any different from the average poster on this site; but I guess there's got to be something that set him apart, considering how quickly he got banned.

I don't know where to ask this, but I suppose it is here.
Could you recommend me a cheap fighting stick?
I've seen the hori mini and the mayflash one for about 40-30 euros.
Should I buy any of them?
I plan to play on pc.

The scene isn't big enough in the States. I agree that it's a damn shame. I'll never for the life of me figure out why BB never took off like GG did.

I can take a guess at
1. Some guilty gear players are STILL bitter. The instant blazblue is mentioned they'll start screaming about how it's 'inferior' to guilty gear. General elitist attitude, never moved on towards blazblue. Some people accepted it, but not enough.
2. Yearly releases turned some people off, especially with dlc characters. I can also take a guess at a lot of people just flat out quit at ct's hilarious imbalance and never came back.
3. Something about anime fighters people have been telling me

I will PM you now.

WOW! Is he perma'd now?! WOW

EDIT: I just saw what he done. 110% against the ToS
Yeah, that's unfortunate.

Who doesn't post like that sometimes, though? :-P We all have things that irk us. Praises to Shouta for putting up with all my Tekken cracks. It's all in good fun, I say.

Explain the premium ticket thing to me.

He posted a nude picture, so...yeah. Unfortunate, but understandable. It's too bad his poor judgment could not have waited one more day.

You will find the answers you seek here, the official NeoGAF arcade stick thread.

Why does EVO hate BlazBlue? Serious question.
I don't think there's any hate for the game itself; it's more of a combination of a couple of things. The biggest thing being that BB players have a reputation for being netplay warriors and not showing up to live events. That and I can't imagine announcing that BB was going to be at Evo 2010 and then pulling it relatively late did anything good for their sponsorship with Aksys.

Developer interest can matter (I really don't think Injustice would have been at Evo this year without WBs support), but it's rather uncommon that a game with significant community support not get included (things like GGAC not being included back in 2008 is rather uncommon). No developer support is required; I remember when they added MBAA to Evo 2010, Ecole and French Bread did not even know what the tournament was (or why an American tournament would want anything to do with their game).

I don't think unique entrants matters all that much, given that the average player enters about 1.85 games (as Evo this year had about 6,500 bracket entries across all games and 3,500 unique players)

madcatz has some cheap arcade sticks. Qanba/eightarc are the cheap dualmodded ones. Usually during tournies like this past weekend madcatz sticks are on sale. Don't know if they still are. A hori mini looks pretty cheap and it might be uncomfortable b/c it's small and has no weight w/ it so it'll be tough playing with it on your lap. The mayflash is probably in the same boat as the hori
